The simple act of accepting the invitation meant the world to him. Her hand in his just felt right…like home. They haven’t been together like this in a while, both of them being busy with their own thing, but it was nice to know that she was so ready to hang out with him with little to no persuasion.

“Not today.” he smiled as they began walking, hoping she was only kidding and wouldn’t be disappointed in their actual destination. Did this city even have a beach? Well, anyways.

“I thought we’d go somewhere a little different.” he stroked his thumb along the top of her hand. “It’s sort of a surprise, but I bet you’ll like it.”

Oh, god.  A “sort of” surprise usually meant one of two things: something she would love, or a crazy X-File (which didn’t necessarily mean she wouldn’t love it, if she was being honest).  But it was her first instinct to worry.  What had he involved them in this time?

“I feel like I need to know the risks before I let you lead me anywhere.”

Liar.  She would let him lead her anywhere, anytime.  She’s there to follow him to the end.  And because of this, she didn’t let go of his hand.

Scully’s glad he broke away first because her own groan of his name spills out as she digs her fingernails into his back.  It feels so good as she always knew it would, always knew it would change something between them but in a way deeper than they could attempt to comprehend or put into coherent thoughts and words.

Her heart is overflowing; she does something she does so well and runs one hand through his thick hair.  She rocks against him, urging him to move, making him do what she wants, what she needs --

And something about having this effect on him, knowing everything she suspected seems to be true so far.  She’s never been with anybody who seemed to know her body far too well for it to be their first time together, never with anybody who made her feel this whole.

“Mulder...” her voice is throaty and raw, and while she wants to pin his wrists and take over because dammit she’s waited long enough, right now it’s this -- them, getting accustomed to something that felt ridiculously familiar anyway --

She can’t imagine herself anywhere else.

She brings his forehead down to hers, and she -- the academic -- finds words to be tricky.

“Come on... need this so much...”
