in your opinion, is there any way for the whole "light vs dark" dictonomy trope to be depicted without some form of underlying racist implication? I want to say most people make it in mind with the sense of literal light and darkness due to the whole primal fear of what we're unable to see and all, but so many things fall into the obvious pitfalls. theres some stories that try to give it nuance (ex. light being just as evil/dangerous if not more so, darkness also meaning safety etc) but im curious as to if you think it can be done or if it's still just iffy on concept alone.

By this point, unless you switch the two, no 😅 I think at best it's overdone, and frankly I'm tired of the "dark representing danger" thing. Was it inherently racist? No. Did it become racist very quickly, when they invented race and started attaching "Black", "dark", "dirty", "sinful", and all those other deemed negative adjectives? Yes. I am so over it. I hate the light elf dark elf, light dark dichotomy I really do. I love it when people subvert it and say actually, maybe the light and white entity is the evil one. Even Hollow Knight managed to do that with The Radiance. I just... Let's get creative.

We have got to stop framing our oppression in ways that promote the idea that other people cannot relate to our struggles. Not only does it isolate comrades in the struggle, it actively diminishes recognition of other struggles--often including those even more horrific than what we are at risk of. And this happens especially between Gay and Black struggles.

"when have straight people ever had to check what states were safe for them?" Sundown towns are still a thing. Starlight tours. What states have abortion access? What states have open carry? What states have stand your ground? What states have 3-strike rules? Women, people of color, disabled people, immigrants, and more have had to be abundantly cautious where they travel to. Straight trans people have much more travel risk right now than gay cis people.

It's a new iteration of the same tired question: "imagine if straight people weren't allowed to marry" interracial marriage in the US is younger than my parents. We disgrace people of color by forgetting their history and contemporary struggles, and we abandon queer people of color, Black queer people, by segmenting their overlapping fights.
