the air of the curtis home held more in its atmosphere than usual—and steve randle brought his girl around this time. which, wasn’t exactly the best idea at this moment, considering most of the bunch had ended up intoxicated, the alcohol buzzing within their bones like a busy bee that farmed for trouble.
sprawled on the living room’s couch, steve kept his free hand resting casually alongside her hip, his hold gentle yet firm.
on the carpet, two-bit was mumbling something about accidentally missing the airing of a recent mickey mouse episode, johnny staring deep into space, ponyboy rambling about some book’s plot in detail while sodapop pretended to pay attention in his dazed state.
darry kept a watchful eye upon the gang, a cigarette held between two of his fingers, taking slow, lazy drags that cradled the feeling of the weight carried after another exhausting day at work.
meanwhile, springing free from the bathroom, dallas carded his hand through his unstyled hair, hollering a bit to shake off the excessive adrenaline the alcohol gave off within his system.
“hey steve, who’s that ya’ got there?” dally drawled, leaning back against the other end of the couch lazily as he laid his eyes on the pretty girl perched near steve’s side.
she looked like both a greaser—carrying hints of rebellion and resilience upon her features, and a soc—dolled up in such a casual and effortless way it might as well be natural.
steve looked up towards the sound of dally’s teasing voice. “my girl,” he replied, answer fairly curt, though its straightforwardness brought confidence.
dally snorted, swaying a tad bit side to side from being so wasted. “yeah? that little dumb broad is ya’ girl?” he jabbed with a chuckle, tone harsh as usual. “she can’t do anything right whenever i see her,”
that same ‘she’ had let out a sharp, offended gasp, peering up at dallas with her arms crossed, feeling as though his words personally crushed her into two.
hearing that careless remark dally just spat, it was as if a switch had been flipped in steve’s head.
meanwhile, the rest of the gang had perked up. some of them—like johnny and soda—had looked like they’d seen a ghost, both pairs of eyes blowing wide with utter shock.
“dallas!” darry managed to choke out in mortification from the corner.
although it was common for dally to be so crude and such while the topic of girls was opened, but this time, he’d cross way over the line.
“don’t you say that about her, dallas.” steve spoke, standing upright to face dally more clearly. he stood eye-level to the latter, gaze sharp and full of warning.
dallas stepped back a little bit, beginning to realize the weight of his words as he swayed backwards on his unsteady feet. “steve, i didn’t mean it like—“ he coughed up an excuse, but steve wasn’t having it.
backing into dally, he prodded, “didn’t mean it like what? like a jerk to my girlfriend?” dallas swallowed down the rest of his weak excuse, knowing it was futile.
“jeez,” he muttered, pretending to brush it off as if he wasn’t a little intimidated by steve’s sudden change. “my bad, i guess…”
steve let out a grunt. “don’t apologize to me, but to her.” dallas stiffened, not liking the idea of apologizing, considering it wasn’t in his nature.
watching him hesitate, steve took another step forward. “i said—“ he repeated, just about the same second dallas mumbled a quick, ‘m sorry, [name]’ of shame.
giving him a short, barely cooled off glance from the couch, [name] scoffed, “that’s more like it.” condescendingly.
“shut it, will you?!” dallas snapped, as steve grunted, sitting himself back on the couch’s leather seats next to his girlfriend—who was more than just a dumb broad.

oh yea for fun here’s a username explanation
my fav character is johnny / johnny cade , and in the word “cadence” (which means the sequence of sounds / motion / words) theres “cade”, and the “blade” part is well, referencing the switchblade johnny used on bob.
so basically it’s johnny cade + the sounds of his switchblade
i’ll most likely be writing fluff , hurt / comfort , or angst for the greasers! (no socs sorry D:)
maybe ill write smut for some of the older ones maybe not
