John 3:1-15 You Must Be Born Again

3 Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. 2 This man came to Jesus[a] by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him.” 3 Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again[b] he cannot see the kingdom of God.” 4 Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? God is good and He knows what's best for us. Sometimes He says yes and sometimes He says no. Sometimes what is truly best for us isn't what we expect or hope for ourselves. However, God knows what we truly need. He will work even the toughest storms and trials out for the best. Let's have the attitude of Job and continue to praise God, even in our storms, and trust Him with the outcome. Trust that God knows what is best for us.

"And he said, 'Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD'”(Job 1:21).

Challenge for Prayer

The civil war of 1998-2003 paralyzed the nation on a number of levels and left many thousands uprooted and in need of practical help and spiritual counselling. Though outside intervention imposed peace and disarmed the ethnic militias, a deeper malaise in the nation remains. Pray for the effectiveness of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, the Winds of Change movement for fairer elections and political processes and the continued ministry of Women for Peace. Pray for true forgiveness and reconciliation that come only through repentance. Without these, the nation can never really progress.
