Mini Japanese Heirloom Garden!
Thanks to a generous blog anniversary prize from @aviandinosaurfluff, I purchased a Japanese Heirloom Garden seed collection from Kitazawa Seed Company! It includes dento yasai, or traditional vegetables, of Japan’s Kansai region. These are historically used in the Buddhist cooking style of Shojin Ryori.
I am attempting to grow them intensively in the northwest growbed of the aquaponics system. My last experiment in that bed was spearmint, which was victim of its own success. I spent the last two hours pulling roots and runners out of the growing media. Nice mint bouquet, though.
Dollar tree had some cute growing tags, so I don’t have to rely on memory.
Katsura Giant Pickling Melon (5)
Early Mibuna Spinach Mustard (~15)
Summer Dance Cucumber-Hybrid(not part of the collection)(6)
Kingoma Sesame Seeds, Tan (not part of the collection) (lots and lots, which is a super bad idea - I just read they can grow anywhere from 24-60 inches. Oops.)
I did not plant the onions or carrots as they do not do well in a growbed environment. Will try in the back garden after I make some space.
