The biggest contribution to the whole narrative of "Your teenage years/young adulthood is THE BEST PART of your life" comes from a culture that insists on trapping at least half the population in unfulfilling marriages with kids they weren't ready for, or didn't really want, at a point in their life when they haven't even figured out who they are and what they want from life.

Hey. If people aren't aware, Microsoft admitted they know who you and where you are at all times and will give your info to the police.
They have a Global Device Identifier (GDID) Tracker that functions as a fingerprint for your PC that can surpass VPNs, proxy servers and countries. Although it can't survive a clean reinstall of Windows (it can survive updates), because Microsoft forces you to go to the internet and log in into a Microsoft account, they will be able to get to you.
Microsoft kept it secret and it was only found out when the FBI tracked a hacker thanks to the information Microsoft gave them.
You should be paying attention to this, and possibly consider moving away from Windows. If a government, especially the US government, doesn't like you for some reason, this could be seriously concerning.

Two things back that up:
There’s no consent screen. A GDID gets assigned when you sign into a Microsoft Account. Apple’s advertising identifier needs an App Tracking Transparency prompt and a visible reset; Android’s works the same way. GDID has neither, and a Windows reinstall only gets you a new number Microsoft can still get back to the same account.
Then there’s activation. Massgrave, the group behind Microsoft Activation Scripts, notes that Windows setup sends hardware info to Microsoft and gets identifiers back, the same tokens later used for Store access and licensing: “It’s impossible to prevent Windows from getting a GDID without breaking activation and UWP app[s].” Anyone who lost a license after swapping a motherboard has already met a smaller version of this.

It seriously cannot get worse than this. Microsoft straight up openly admitted that Windows is spyware by definition. They know who you are, they know where you are, they know what you are doing on your computer at all times. VPNs don't help, they can still see and save everything. You cannot turn it off. It is full on surveillance and it has been going on for months without you knowing because there was no consent screen ever.
What ELSE are people waiting for? Even websites focused entirely on windows are telling you to use Linux, essentially accepting the fact that they will lose readers if people follow their advice, because they cannot in good conscience recommend using this OS anymore. This cannot realistically get any worse. I can already see myself eating my words bc Microsoft will find a way to make things even worse but you get what I mean.
This is horrible and needs to be fought with more than ‘just switch to linux’. Genuinely what are people who have to use programs dependent on Microsoft software only supposed to do in this situation? I have used a LOT of OS and open sources options and there a lot of people who deserve privacy who neither have the technical know how or means due to certain professions (ex. I work in the world of academia and cannot afford a second machine just for work AND my work SHULD be aloud to be private. I’d have to quiet my career at this moment to detangle from Microsoft). We need tech privacy advocacy and movement NOW for the people that goes beyond ‘lol this is bad and it’s a personal responsibility just figure it out yourself.’ Tech illiterate and professionals deserve cyber secyrity and privacy.
Sometimes I’m looking for something online - often “how to” articles - and I want to filter for - like - a website that was clearly built in 2010 at the latest, which may or may not have been updated since then, but contains a vast wealth of information on one topic, painstakingly organized by an unknown legend in the field with decades’ worth of experience.
I don’t want a listicle with a nice stolen picture in a slideshow format written by a content aggregator that God forgot. I want hand-drawn diagrams by some genius professor who doesn’t understand SEO at all, but understands making stir-fries or raising stick insects better than anyone else on this earth. The older i get the more i understand why some people become obsessed with privacy, not because they’re hiding something, but because being constantly perceived starts to feel spiritually exhausting.
Did you know that soda machines at restaurants and movie theaters spy on you? That most common new cars now record your sexual preferences and send it to the manufacturer (and also data about anyone who also gets in your car, walks by your car, and maybe happens to be within visual range of your car)? That grocery stores are trying to force customers to download an app to scan barcodes on shelves instead of putting up prices, so the app can scan the phone, decide how much that customer should be squeezed for, and adjust the price? That more and more innocent people are being sent to jail for crimes committed hundreds of miles away because an AI facial recognition algorithm spit their faces out and the cops didn't bother to do the most basic of checks?
I am not uptight about privacy because I'm hiding something. I'm uptight about it because the people who dismiss my right to privacy are dangerous to you and me and our families, personally, all the time.
