Beer Temperatures: A Primer
Ice cold beer has been marketed as an ideal temperature for 60 years now, but we know that’s not really the case. Cold temperatures dull aroma & flavor. Think about ice cream: we barely taste anything until it starts to melt.
Really, beer is supposed to be fun; drink what you like. If you like freezing brews, you do you. But here are some basic guidelines on how we roll:

December 12 Wine Seminar
It’s time to sharpen our senses (or at least take them for a walk around the block).
This Saturday we are doing our annual “Brown Bag” seminar. Here’s how it works: we have 8 wines in numbered brown bags, we give you a list of varietal descriptors matched to the tasting notes on each of the wines. You just have to match the taste of the wine to the numbered bottle. This is a great way to learn how to be a bit more perceptive of the wine you drink. We even give you the information and very helpful hints to name the varietal (although that is pretty advanced - just watch the movie/documentary “Somm” where future Sommeliers differ on which wine was which in a the blind tasting and you’ll quickly find out naming varietals isn’t that easy BUT we give you plenty of clues and information so you can amaze yourselves!
The most important part of this? It is NOT a test, but rather an exercise in tasting wine. And as you know, exercise makes for a better athlete!
I really hope you can join us in Woodbury for either the noon or 1PM sessions. And, if you just want to come and taste 8 great wines without doing the exercise, that’s great too!

December 5 Wine Lunch Menu
We have a menu for the Dec 5th Wine Lunch at Brasserie Zentral (612-333-0505)! And there are still some seats left (but call soon so you get in!).
Here’s the menu:

Second Course Rabbit & Smoked Fish Terrine Roasted Beets, Horseradish, Balsamic Onion Marmalade (I am REALLY happy to see this. A wine pairing challenge that should be extra fun!)
Third Course House Made Cavatelli with Braised Duck (Cavatelli translated means "little buns” and they look like little hot dog buns which should be perfect with the braised duck!)
Dessert Course Gerbeaud Cake with Walnut, Apricot, Caramel & Creme Fraiche
Thanksgiving Wine Suggestions
Thanksgiving is a holiday rooted in tradition, in both nationalist and familial sense. While many will be sitting down to turkey dinners on Thursday, those turkeys will be prepared differently, and each calls for a different wine.Â
If you’re sick of the typical Thanksgiving turkey pairings, check out our suggestions to mix it up. And shop local at The Cellars Wines & Spirits, of course!
