To make myself feel better about the drastic mischaracterisation (big word) of g3 monster high, I just image that it's them in middle school or wtv. Like, yeah they're all awkward as hell cause they've just met at the start of middle school, or its like the first couple of years of highschool in the UK. Yeah they're kinda funny looking, cause they're 13 years old. And they've just discovered the Internet and they're still discovering their own styles. They're experimenting.

And then g1 is like the last couple of years in highschool where everyone's become friends and they all feel comfortable in their own skin and they don't have to come out to people or clarify things about themselves cause they've been friends for years at this point.

Genuinely, everything makes so much more sense this way to me. Even the animation style of g3 makes them look younger than in g1.
