I’m an illustrator and 2D animator who uses both Krita and Toon Boom Harmony for my work - inspired by the eerie, dreamy and silly.

Forgot to bring my mouse and playing with the trackpad isn’t exactly the easiest (at least on the laptop I have), so I wanted to quickly try hooking up my Wacom Intuos S.

Since the touch gestures on mine barely work, I had to put the mouse sensitivity all the way down to 1 so I didn’t endlessly spin when moving the pen by a few millimeters, though I can imagine bumping it up to 6 or slightly higher if I get more into it, and bind the right-click to one of the express keys as it oddly wasn’t working when binded to the pen. The rest I can still use on my keyboard with my other hand.

Quickly found that having the right-click this way made it so that I had to fully let go of the pen so that it could interact at all, making it a bit janky when I need to place, pick up something, use projectiles, or whatever else needs a right-click.

It’d be funny to set it up in a way where I could play with it better, but I think I’d like to go back to the trackpad for now.

Sketchbook Snippets (5) - The Grim Mailcarriers

Some of them are still in the phase of figuring out their personalities and giving them some more design tweaks, but just wanted to have them be casually chilling out off-duty! Found this text editor called Chronicler that’s like a fusion of Obsidian and a Wiki page that’s made specifically for worldbuilding and characters, and it’s been helping me building them up.

Other than that, I’m Currently making sketches this week for Artfight while simultaneously travelling the whole month - so they’re more likely going to be traditionally illustrated unless I find time to at least color them digitally.

A lil’ OC ramble of translating their names

Been thinking of how my punny/referential OC names from The Grim Mailman would be in Norwegian… except for Petra Sortedal (Pesta/Svartedauden) who already is. Hmm…

Note: Just spouting things based on observation and personal experience.

For example, Ripper Grimsley could be Riven (from the verb å rive; to rip) Grimsrud (both a riff off ‘grim’ but also coincidentally being a Norwegian name prefix, while adding -rud as a suffix). Though it’s more of a translation of Ripper’s name rather than a reference to Mannen med Ljåen (the Grim Reaper). First thought was Hanne/Anne Emilie. But it sounds more like a double name with no surname… Maybe something like Hanne/Anne [double name] Ljoen? Agh, the ‘med’ part is throwing me off! And funnily I’m struggling coming up with a masculine name that fits with ‘mannen’ xD

Besides Norwegian translations, there’s also a few characters who I just named with English, like Danse Macabre turning into Dawson McAubrey. I love the surname being on the nose, though the name as a whole isn’t really giving French (TvT)?

Sketchbook Snippets (4) - Lunch Break "Doodles"

It’s been a few days since I graduated and looking back at my sketchbook, it was bit surprising to me to see it unfinished before the end of a semester as my previous ones had. Though to be fair, there was more focus on ‘finished’ rendered pencil sketches than quicker and messier ones with fine liners.

At one point, we found a small physical archive of animated films with VHSs and DVDs from our university. Since we’ve gone digital, we of course don’t do that any more… Until now when of us suggested we burn them into CDs. Therefore, I started sketching some thumbnails for the cover!

Me and the Macrocosm team are finished with our thesis film! …kinda.

There’s still some things we’d like to clean and go back to improve on before we release out into the world, but just know that it’s a project I’m so proud to have worked on this past year :D

hey guys do you ever think about how fucked up it is that lucas knew desmond was gonna go through the mindscape or whatever we're calling it and gave him a gun and gave him little bridges and supports so he can get into vital areas because he knows hes not a military man and probably can't jump that far. and also it's so horribly debilitating knowing you're going through what your client did, you're IN THEIR MIND, witnessing how they see themselves and the culmination of their trauma and.

Wait, I didn’t even clock the preparedness Lucas had that he would’ve set up the gun and stuff in the unconscious, that’s crazy actually O_O

I just watched the TADC finale in cinema!

I’ll have to digest it for a bit, but my first impressions were that … [light spoilers]

… the climax felt sudden and weirdly paced, and the different ideas they had in them didn’t flow too well together. I do like what they have done in concept and they did their best within the time frame, but it could’ve either been in the oven for a bit longer or they gave themselves an extra minute or two even if the sequence is already as long as it is.

There was also a lot of exposition which kinda makes sense with what they were going for. It can be a good storytelling tool when vital, but much like throughout the series, there comes a point where I felt like:

A bit too much telling for my taste. Something more akin to explaining rather than expressing.

Besides the audio being very loud at some points and some other creative choices that I’ll have to think more on, they did a nice job tying things together in the end and visually delving into a feeling through the atmosphere and sound design.

I overall left with an okay feeling, yet it was still an amazing experience watching it on the big screen. Unfortunately missed the special intro though.
