This is a sideblog of @quailfence​ deadicated to comics! If you want to learn more about me and my other interests, head over there. There will be mostly webcomics on here, but sometimes I’ll post about comic books and comics strips, too.

ComicFury is one of the only old school webcomic hosting sites still active, with seventeen years of putting its actual community of artists first, including such rarities as a no-ai policy and an active healthy forum with fair and clear moderation.

It's grown a lot in the past year and so needs have grown alongside it, so here I am doing the PBS Style donation drive post, lmao.

Keep in mind this ask is only if you're in a position to support artists and have been wanting to, but ComicFury has been my comics home for years now and I'd like to see it continue to thrive, especially in the current environment of exploitation, censorship, and other abuse webcomickers have to deal with on other platforms. (because guess what, you can show violence and/or tiddy AND swear all you want on ComicFury as long as you properly rate your comic for it.)

"But the X-Men really are dangerous, so it's a bad metaphor for marginalized people" is the kind of ice cold take everyone drops like they're the first ones to ever think about it, but it's also one that only really makes sense in the context of the movies or some other adaptation where the X-Men are the only superpowered people around. Within the context of the original universe, it does make perfect sense as a metaphor, bc people as a whole are fine with individuals who gain their powers by radiation poisoning or by spider bite or whatever, but find mutants so arbitrarily repulsive they literally program giant death robots to murder them and them alone

Im really really happy I just got back from con and a webcomic Ive read for over a decade just canonized a pretty big theory that a character was asexual, directly stating it. Also managing to make one of the only funny asexual mitosis jokes about it at the same time, Order of the Stick and especially O-Chul continues to never let me down.

Nale the Neutral Twin

I want to get this theory out in case it ends up being proven right.

Any Order of the Stick fan knows that the Giant can do massive callbacks. One strip can reference a previous one that was 500 or more strips ago, either as a brick joke or serious foreshadowing. Sometimes both! And the idea of a "Neutral Twin" for Elan and Nale has been brought up twice.

In comic 69 (Hey, It Was Worth a Shot): Elan: Yeah, I know. But I didn't save you so we could interrogate you. I saved you 'cause I'm the Good twin, not the Neutral twin.

And in comic 812 (And Yet, the Canned Meat Merchant Still Gets Through): Elan: I don’t think so, but I guess there could be a True Neutral brother out there named Lean or Anel or something.

For a long time, I hoped the third Neutral sibling would make an appearance. Of course, this wasn't guaranteed. It could just be one joke and a callback, simple and complete. But a neutral triplet would make a nice rule-of-three joke. And what if it was a girl named Lena or something? It could be neat!

As we approach the endgame, I have come to believe less that a third neutral triplet would appear. It just wouldn't be as narrative satisfying to introduce a brand new character this close to the end of the story.

But then, the most recent few pages have rekindled my hope for this joke in a new way. Because posthumously, we have Nale. Nale who has had a moment of self-reflection and growth in the afterlife. Nale who has had an epiphany about how much he got in his own way and made his own life miserable. Nale who is resisting the three fiends. Nale who carved a Big Giant N into his face. Considering abandoning Elan almost bumped Roy from Good to Neutral. Surely Nale finding a way to thwart a global apocalypse and/or save his brother could nudge him up an alignment?

I think, living or dead, Nale will end the series Neutral. He could even do a call back to Elan's line from #69 (Something along the lines of "Why are you doing [heroic/self-sacrifical thing]?" "Because I'm the Neutral Twin, not the Evil Twin").
