The worst trick a childhood anxiety disorder pulls is, you spend your early years being applauded for being so much more mature than your peers, because you aren’t disruptive, you don’t want any kind of attention, you don’t express yourself, you keep yourself to yourself - this makes you a pleasure to have in class, etc etc - and you start to believe it’s virtue. But you’re actually way behind your peers in normal social development, and who knows if you can ever catch up.
Never heard a truer thing in my life.
holy shit wait you mean being just morbidly terrified of doing anything wrong ISN’T necessarily the same as being “well behaved?!”
Convenient children =/= healthy children
Convenient children =/= healthy children
Felt like that needed emphasis
“Media is for enforcing our worldviews via simple morality tales portrayed with as little ambiguity as possible. What media is not for is teaching us anything new or exposing us to novel forms of thought or showing us how it is to live as a different type of person. And you know why it’s not for that? Because of the children. Won’t you think of the children? What if they see something that they, literal children, don’t immediately understand. What if any aspect of our cultural stories isn’t instantly graspable by actual children. It’s just better and easier if we make all of our media only fit what a five year old child who has never been exposed to anything outside of his immediate neighborhood will understand instantly and without further explanation. It’s called decency. Look it up. In a dictionary. Which is a book full of words that I don’t understand and refuse to learn.”

Being overstimulated is such a weird thing to explain to people. Like "hey sorry, I'm not mad at you and this is nobody's fault and I'm not blaming anyone for it happening, I am aware this is a part of regular everyday life but I am mentally crumbling because There Have Been Things Happening nonstop for 5 hours straight back to back with no breaks, and I really need to sit down in complete silence for like 15-25 minutes, after which I will be completely fine and can proceed as normal. But if I'm not allowed to have that, I will resort to violence."
