hey everyone, just curious:
what is everyone's criteria for blocking people?
"we cut the nobody scene from the odyssey" "we cut the religious trauma and parental abuse from carrie" i'm starting to think that studios barely funding original films is starting to have an effect where directors make up a story and then slap an IP on it in order to sell. or maybe some bitches just can't read anymore idk it's one or the other
yall gotta be nicer about m/f bc sometimes u guys like the blandest gay sutff ive ever seen in my life
gonna add onto this you all gotta stop acting like m/f is just cishet when bisexual people exist and straight trans people exist.
last add on alot of m/f ships of poc or white/poc ship are constantly downplayed for bland white m/m or f/f ships
#also sometimes u guys r just fuckig misogynist. abt the women in m/f ships. sorry
I will post my friend's thoughts here because it's very interesting and true.
Addition:
[...] Because if Costine and TRQ are not, in fact, infallible agents of their own lives, untouched by virtue of their solitude and isolation, if theyre not in fact acting according to an inherent immutable unchangable Nature
If these people, defined in lothaires mind as people who exist Despite the world, people who live on the outskirts, act on the outskirts, are still influenced and acted upon despite not having contact with others Then those forces can act on Lothaire!
He doesn't actually have perfect impenetrable control over his Selfhood and Identity, he's actually a result of circumstances and influences and decisions made by people he will never meet and who never talked to him and there IS no Clearly Defined Chain Of History he can trace all nice and neatly
He's being acted upon by others and thats affecting him in ways he can't control because THOSE PEOPLE are making decisions so far away from him he can't actually see them or stop them or influence them
and like, to a degree that's unavoidable, war with cormanthor affects the price of bread, but he comforts himself with the knowledge that like. Okay he KNOWS how history and economics work, if he WANTED to he could put his finger on the scale and demonstrate his power and influence like that. the economy is the way it is because Lothaire chooses to let it persist
i COULD affect this but it's beneath Me so I choose to let it remain ignorant of My power
except done on. like. global scale. and he IS very influential, he COULD sink his talons into the intracicies of grain trade and manipulate it how he pleases
but the abstaining from doing so has a dual purpose, the second of which is the fact that doing so for every single aspect of Lothaire's life is genuinely insane and impossible.
if he stays within his own circle, if he just chooses to restrict what he influences "as a gift to others", then he doesn't have to confront the reality that he can't actually live entirely independently and on his own merits and will in fact be influenced by decisions he can't control
Lothaire could control things like the price of grain OR the availability of steel OR the price of stone OR the quality of lumber OR the supply of nails OR the amount of artisans crafting tools and to whom they sell but he can't do all of it all at once, which becomes apparent if he ever needs to build a house from scratch.
so to avoid the fact he cannot control Every Single Aspect Of His Life Perfectly, he "permits" lesser, fallible creatures to do the work thats beneath his notice and below his station
even if they aren't aware they're doing so
see the stonemason is actually Serving Lothaire's Will even if totally unaware of it, Lothaire has delegated this task of managing something so beneath him he doesn't even need to grace it with his acknowledgement
and as such if they displease him, he's within reason to punish them for failing a job they didn't know they had
in this way he controls every aspect of his life even if such a thing is not feasibly possible. the world centers his will because he is the most superior, and thus influential, creature upon it, and therefore he absorbs and assimilates the influence of everything he comes into contact with
Everything Serves Lothaire's Will which saves him the trouble of needing to do something himself, which is a fun little sleight of hand he does to ignore how he's acted on by external influence
because, after all, if someone is not being punished by Lothaire, that should be understood as a tacit endorsement of their behavior, or at least permission to persist
you are allowed to set these prices because it isn't enough of a bother for him to punish you, which hes in his rights to do because you are within his influence and thus subservient to his will. ergo he has perfect control and it's completely fine
the reality: -a rakshasa ate a guy in Amn and this trickled down to influence the availability of iron because the rakshasa is picking off mine workers, which means the steel smiths need to increase their prices when selling in waterdeep because their upfront costs are higher, which means the Cyricists sourcing goods in Baldur's Gate are paying more, which means they're bringing less back to the church when answering to Lothaire, whereupon he chokes them out for this deliberate failure. Lothaire has no idea this rakshasa in Amn even exists or that its decisions have fucked up his itinerary for the day
pointing this out has Lothaire tell you he's permitting this rakshasa to exist because his Cyricists need to demonstrate competency by meeting his will even when circumstances are unfavorable, because they are the one true faith and all the world will work against them. ergo they're being tested by him. and failed. you had one fucking job
in terms of compatibility, Cyric is ofc the most compatible, just straight up adopting Lothaire's mindset but offloading the specifics of it onto him, because this is just straightforwardly a comforting, defensive mindset
you're important you're special and people resent you for how you were ALWAYS important and special even before you realized it
Lothaire can chart out the nuances and specific details, Cyric has the main points down. from the beginning he was always going to be where he is and people were always going to be backstabbing cunts about it because everyone knew Cyric's Influence was superior and so the rabbit set up a trap for the wolf so it would not be consumed
Inherently he is JUST better than other mortals which is why he ascended
Bonus:
I love how the best Lothaire character analysis is shit that pisses him off
he hates being Perceived so fucking much LMAO
ohhh the shadow guy hates being seen? big surprise
HE DOESN'T NEED TO BE PERCEIVED HE NEEDS EVERYONE TO LOOK AT THE PICTURE HE PAINTS OF HIMSELF INSTEAD !!! LOOK AT THE MURAL NOT HIM!!!!
insert Lothaire's "Fools. the mask reveals Me" line here
i love that lothaire is working on so many levels of subterfuge, obfuscation, and subversion that at the end of it all. hes subverting the mask by using it as a mask 😭
like >a mask is a concealing object which hides the wearers face >Lothaire Subverts the Mask by using the Mask as his genuine self, being more Lothaire with the mask than without it >Lothaire's portrayal of himself, of Lothaire, is actually a carefully constructed persona of control >the "true genuine self" is itself something lothaire wears to hide the vulnerable truth he does not acknowledge even to himself >in a shocking twist not even Lothaire saw coming, the mask is in fact a mask
WE ARE BACK AT STEP ONE. THROUGH SOME CONVOLUTED BULLSHIT. WDYM YOUR SUBVERTING THE IDEA OF A MASK BY USING IT FOR ITS INTENDED FUNCTION. ARE YOU FUCKING INSANE LOTHAIRE????
and the thing is. it all comes down to Lothaire feeling a need to position himself as Unassailable, In Control, utterly independent and never once at the mercy of anyone or anything. Lothaire Is Never Helpless
which i mean. he was, often, as a child, unable to do anything to prevent or assuage Costine's fits of madness and incapable of doing anything to help her besides caretaking her and eventually fulfilling her pleas for a mercy killing. Theres a lot about his childhood that was entirely out of his hands, least of all his heritage. He is scion to a legacy of madness and blood, whether he likes it or not. His mother paid the price for that legacy, and Costine was additionally saddled with the weight of her *own* legacy, a call to madness and a lifetime of visions and compulsions and omens. Immediately from the very first moments of his existence, there are things that deeply influence Lothaire that he had no influence over and no control in. Insofar as the desire to "help" Costine crossed his mind, there was never anything he could do as a young, vulnerable child raised in impoverished conditions living in the isolated rural outskirts of the magocratic dictatorship known as Thay. I'm sure it doesn't mean anything that Lothaire deliberately does not attach his identity to his childhood in a meaningful sense and instead identifies moreso with the actions he deliberately undertakes as the Alchemist of Pain, to the extent that he feels an emotional attachment to an entity who never talks to him as a maternal figure (as contrasted with his literal actual mother).
Lothaire wants so badly to be Self Made, Deliberately Constructed with Intent and Purpose. Everything about him, his life his behavior his decisions his personas, is something HE decided without any external influence. He'd be the same person in a vaccuum, raised in different circumstances by different people in different places, because there is an immutable Lothaire, a perfect form, that cannot be marred or sullied by outside actors. He Will Never Change
which. lol. lmao even
Lothaire internalizes the idea that if one does not control the Self, one does not control anything, but he pushes it to extremes, control of the Self is control over everything, the World Entire, because if Lothaire has Utmost Control over What and Who Lothaire Is, the power and influence OF that control renders him a supreme, unassailable creature with dominion over aspects of reality itself. Lothaire is not influenced by petty circumstance, Lothaire is the waves that define the shore and which carves the cliff face. He is that which creates reality for others.
again. lol. lmao even
if Lothaire is someone able to be influenced by forces beyond his awareness or control, if the people around him are subject to these forces, the facade crumbles. Everyone is a series of independent actors reacting to conflict according to their own inherent immutable nature, as described by the context of their souls. Lothaire is inherently different and inherently better but he exists objectively in the same reality as everyone else and therefore there must be an underpinning logic defining their behavior the way one describes the orbit of planetary bodies around a star. There is no circumstantial influence, or situational pressure, there is no butterfly effect, there is Nature, never nurture, and there is collective consumption, domination, submission, the Strong proving their power by how much influence they wield over the weak. A servant obeys because his choices are defined by the Lord. Lothaire is the pinnacle. He heeds nothing and no one, save his own whims. His life is his to define, determine, he draws the borders, he marks the edges, he describes himself and the act of description defines reality. If you cannot see Lothaire, if you cannot reach him, you cannot touch him. He does not react to that which does not exist, and what does not exist is defined by that clear, described circle. Lothaire defines himself. Lothaire describes himself. There are no fingerprints upon his clay that did not place deliberately himself.
lol. lmao. Lothaire white knuckle gripping the sink repeating this like a mantra staring into a cracked mirror like a horrid scar cut across his features. The crack isnt real because he knows what his face is and the mirror is whole because he would know if something acted upon his image.
YES EXACTLY!! EXACTLY!!
PHD IN LOTHAIRE AS IT IS💜💜💜💜
But also why do you hide such gems in tags????
i'm finally getting caught up on cr4 e31 and man. the clear influences of the player's real life culture in their characters (and in the worldbuilding in brennan's case) is amazing and adds such a richness. like thaisha is so clearly influenced by like. black american folk culture Especially with the orcish revolutionaries. idk if liam is irish but he's at least running with a lot of the irish american working class stuff brennan injected into the world in terms of the hal and the culture of the round. and azune's whole bit about not having anyone to speak his native language to and his disconnect to his own identity (diaspora narrative). i Love when real world cultures are reflected in fiction it's so good.
#and what Robbie is doing with Katt seems to be very much exploring the unchecked violence against native women and children in the USA
oh fuck you're right. you're totally right that's exactly the allegory.
@hemisphaericas hope it’s okay to save your tags, Rose, they’re very very good!!!
Me: *Sees some stank nasty bastard character with a wicked grin and cheekbones that could cut like knives and all-too-expressive eyebrows frolicking around in some kind of villain or villain-adjacent musical number.*
My goblin brain: THAT’S FRIEND-SHAPED!!!
maybe if we keep speculating about mitch mcconnell more different repub senators will drop dead
pro-tip: your blog is about you. be self-indulgent, self-absorbed, and self-possessed. go all in on your obsessions. this is a work of self-expression, a living monument to your heart.
i call this one “using tumblr as a person of color”
might update with more images at some point

"Whimsy" is truly a wretched term. What maketh thee so carefree?

Art thou for fucking real
i really don't know if i'm more baffled or flattered at the idea that there is at least one person out there who thinks wb is a het ship that threatens to overshadow caleb's queerness/queer ships. like. were the hegemonic supremacy of sg not so overwhelming, perhaps there would be a shred of a point there. however.
someone always out there saying it's homophobic to like a ship other than the most popular mlm ship. it's actually very funny. this is the third time i've seen this crop up this year alone
I actually recommend everyone write for a rarepair once because it completely changes your relationship with fandom. Engagement stops being numbers and starts being names. You know who's going to show up. You recognize usernames. Someone disappears for a while and then comes back and you're like “OH MY GOD WELCOME HOME.” It's incredibly wholesome. It is also deeply inconvenient when all six of you simultaneously get writer's block-
they used to do nothing to me back in the morally neutral lab. it sucked
you were the control
fuuuuck what were they doing to the other folks #fomo
so if bells hells orchestrated the consecution of the gods... and kicked off their cycles of consecuted reincarnations... and we also know that, eventually, those with multiple consecuted reincarnations under their belts eventually develop typhros and become mad... are all of the gods condemned to eventual madness and exandria is heading towards calamity 2.0?
all that being said. through the vehicle of Athanor Continuity, i have finally stumbled upon a characterization of Mystra i can rly sink my teeth into, which is essentially "Fate is a kind of Cosmic Horror", which positions Midnight as a kind of "Final Girl who both already died and is also about to crash out catastrophically"
which has been ENDLESSLY enjoyable to play with. what the fuck kind of person voluntarily seeks out LOTHAIRE of all people? unhinged behavior. the fact that this decision is made, not in SPITE of the spellplague, but BECAUSE of it is like. jesus fucking christ girl
5e's interpretation of Mystra as an "all-in-one" type scenario is broadly a massive fucking cop out BUT ☝️ if you are deeply deranged, like myself, you can add this to a melting pot of Mystra Lore Tidbits (Partially Yanked Off Twitter Via Dedicated Curators) and cook something that has the same flavor profile as Azula Going Insane In The Mirror. not one to one but we're hitting a similar level of desperation here.
i think i should give midnight a gun. tbh.
I love the fact that we haven't even really delved into this part of the plot yet, because I'm still stuck fleshing out the details up to the 1390s DR. That said, we really should explain what happens in the later plotlines in more depth....
