Hey there. I just wanted to say that I really like your barber shop ponies. They're all so cute and I love their designs! Can you tell me more about them individually? Or perhaps as a group? Deep Sea and Tag Tune are my favorites. Though all of them are wonderful. :)
Yo holy shit I don't know how long this has been sitting in my inbox, so I'm sorry I havent answered till now. But I'm so flattered you like them! I really like them too, I'm honestly kind of sad I never did anything with this merry band of dweebs. I'm glad someone out there likes Tag and Sea too (but imho opinion Merrie's probably my favorite)!
For those of you who don't have any clue what I'm talking about (not that I'm sure a lot of people care since this blog is virtually dead anyways), these guys are who I'm referring to:
Anyways, I don't remember specific things about them because its been years since I've done anything remotely related to them but I do remember the lore behind how they met.
Tony Tone was an accomplished solo-career singer who was, in his teen years, very popular and successful (kinda like Wayne Newton). But as soon as he reached his late twenties, he was replaced by a younger, more 'with the times' teen vocalist, and was essentially forgotten. He becomes bitter and resentful of music, but still begrudgingly performs at night clubs and bars in order to make a living.
And that's how he's discovered by Tag Tune and Merrie Melody; a musical comedy duo that met while they were serving in the Canterlot Royal Guard together. They go around different cities, unsuccessfully trying to combine music and comedy. But despite the lack of success they've had in the 3 years they've been doing it, the only people they manage to make laugh is each other. They stick with it because occasionally they'll land a gig that pays okay, but they have to borrow money often in order to... well stay alive.
The three of them are accidentally scheduled for the same entertainment block at a club in Canterlot one night, but rather than argue about who gets the spot, Merrie and Tag manage to convince Tony to join their routine; and the three of them manage to put on a relatively successful show. Tony doesn't really care about the success of the show at first, he just cares about getting paid. But after peforming and hearing applause again for the first time in years, he feels the inkling of a spark that first got him into music reignite. He decides to stick around with Merrie and Tag to see where this singing comedy thing might take them, even though he pretends not to care all that much. They go on to perform a few more shows to relative success.
However, their trio was missing something, and that's where Deep Sea comes in. Originally a fisherman by trade, he later gets wrapped up in debt collection after his only ship, which he bought with money his current employer lent him, was destroyed in a terrible storm. So now he's stuck being the muscle of a debt-collection racket. And both Tag Tune and Merrie Melody owe Deep Sea's employer a LOT of money. But before he can collect, he overhears the three of them practicing at some point, and it reminds him of the times he used to sing sea shanties with his father and brother, both of whom died during the storm that destroyed his boat.
So yeah, then Deep Sea joins the comedy trio, making it into a comedy quartet, and The Afterglows were born!
TLDR; I love these guys a lot, they have a great story and wish I had a blog for them but it's a lot of effort and time to start something like that, neither of which I have.
But hey y'know what maybe I'll start posting some stuff about them at some point on this blog just for poops and giggles lol
