A teen slasher feminist satire of the patriarchy. Jane Bradley's clever writing allows the audience to laugh, get angry, think, and be scared all at once. The characters are well rounded, relatable and likeable. The female friendship between Char and Lola brought out the flaws and strengths of both girls. This play manages to tackle issues such as menstruation, sexuality, sexism, and catcalling without preaching, in a way that showcases Bradley's brilliant wit excellently.
Review of The Curse
“There are some important and highly topical issues dealt with in The Curse including cat calling and there’s a strong theme of female friendship but it isn’t sickly sweet or rammed down the audience’s throats, it feels organic and fitting.
The effects showing passing of time and indicating different locations within the play are again simplistic but do the trick just right and the music clips in between scream female power.
The Curse sold out it’s opening night and will play 2 further consecutive dates at 3MT [update- these now also sold out] but in my opinion needs to be picked up by more small theatres across the country. This might have been Jane Bradley’s first play but I really hope it isn’t her last.”

“Tumblr culture has developed over the past five years as the smart weird kid in school connected with the other smart weird kids from all the other schools all over the world,” said Strle. This brand of Tumblr humor often focuses on what I think of as micro-humiliations, tiny moments of social awkwardness that can feel absolutely crushing for a teenager figuring out how to be a person in the world. Anonymous kids post incisive one-liners confessing their most vulnerable moments of social mortification. Sometimes those one-liners spread across continents, tweaked by thousands of other teens who add their own jokes as they reblog the original. The very best tweaks spread further, reblogged again and again, reappearing periodically in the feed, disconnected from time. Some posts get more than a million notes—imagine a joke whispered in biology class getting a laugh from a city the size of San Francisco.
