@thedancingfeen I see you cheesinā.
Very cheesin. Much awkward. Wow.
I notice the id community is collectively using the term āvictory rollsā more frequently and the first several times I heard it I had no idea what it meant and instead of googling it like a decent person I decided to pretend it referred to going to a restaurant with hella good rolls after a feis
Hiked around and tried to take some artsy pics over the weekend
Shenandoah? I was there this weekend too! Love me some mountain laurels :)
The (Abridged) 30-Day Challenge
Hey everyone! As you might know, Iām out of NANs this year (my TCās cousin is judging), so although Iāll be creeping the message boards and cheering everyone on from home, Iāll also be training like Iām going so I donāt get behind for the Oireachtas.
That being said, Iām not trying to kill myself here, so I came up with an abridged version of my original 30-day challengeĀ that only goes up to 75 reps instead of 100 and gives one week of tapering down instead of 2. I also swapped out the lunge switches because my big toe started to really bug me by the end of the last challenge doing those. Instead, Iāve included bridgingĀ (any variation of lifting your legs or arms to make it harder is encouraged) to work those glutes just as well.
And I may be crazy, but Iāve decided to add an extra 12 pounds to my burpees using a weighted vest (a lovely birthday present from @itsomnivorous. Thanks big bear!) so I think one plyometric exercise will be perfectly sufficient. This program is meant to be fluid, so if thereās any exercise you want to swap out or if you want to increase more/less than 5 reps a day, go for it! This is your workout, so make it whatever fits your needs.
This particular challenge starts today, so if youāre interested in joining me please feel free! And if you make it to the peak day and complete 100 burpees, donāt forget to give yourself a pat on the back. As always, if you have any questions, please donāt hesitate to ask me.Ā
Good luck training and happy practicing!
I'm not doing NANs either but I'm in! Why not ;)
So, did you have a productive practice tonight?
Transfer advice?
Iām moving to a new region for a job transfer in a few weeks and Iām super sad about leaving my dance family and nervous about starting over. Anyone have any advice on transferring schools? Like, tips on restyling, things you wished you had asked before you joined, etc.?? Iām a senior lady and kind of scared that I will wonāt survive the ordeal of restyling haha :) Thanks in advance!!!
Iāve transferred several times and I think itās a different experience for everyone and it really depends on the person and the new school. You may adjust to the new style within a few weeks, or it may take you over a year. Thatās not to scare you or say that itāll take you that long or anything, but just be aware of that. I was usually able to adjust within a couple of months, but there was one school that took me much longer. Donāt put too much pressure on yourself, remember that this is a whole new environment, dance style, and teaching style so give yourself the grace and time you need whether that be a month, 6 months, or a year. I find taking videos of the steps to be helpful because you can watch it over and over again and get that style in your mind. Practice practice practice! That will help you adjust faster. If possible, Iād even look into a couple of private lessons. Iāve transferred as a senior lady and itās not as bad as you might think :) You can do it! Feel free to send me a message if you need to talk to someone or ask questions :)
Be aware: not all dance schools will be interested in taking on a new senior lady. If a school isnāt interested and thereās another choice, just brush it off. Itās their loss. Iāve transferred twice (both due to moves) so feel free to PM me.
Thank you, ladies! I know I'll probably be fine once I'm settled but I just want to fast-forward to that part :) And I definitely forget that some schools may not even take me because I'm an old fart haha! Good thing ID gives you thick skin. So glad to have some virtual support on the upcoming adventure!

Yāknow I reblogged this a bit ago and was saved from financial probation and getting kicked out of school because of it, just mere months from graduation. Got a call from the financial aid advisor telling me that they made a mistake with filing my account (or some other sort of clerical error) and said that, basically, they owe me money. Welp.
Last time I reblogged the money cat, I won two $100 gift cards at work.
I donāt know why I didnāt just post the video when I shared the linkš please spread this and share this link: https://www.facebook.com/projectfusionfighters/videos/1013399515364279/ ššš
Hey everyone.
So as you may have a heard, Fort McMurray in Alberta, Canada is currently being ravished by a sudden forest fire which forced the quick evacuation of all 80,000 residents on Tuesday. The fire and destruction is still ongoing despite the best efforts of all the amazing emergency crews.
Fort McMurray is home to some of the dancers from the Brady Academy of Irish dance. These dancers just learned that they lost their studio to the fire. Any dancer knows that the studio is our second home, itās a piece of who we are. And for them this home is gone. The families are all still sitting and waiting to hear if their own homes have been lost as well. I canāt even imagine what these families are going through right now.
The Brady Academy has set up a gofundme for these dance families to help them rebuild over the coming months. If anyone feels like they can donate, especially those of us from the Western Canadian region, I think it would be a great show of support for these families and another sign of how amazing the Irish Dance world is. If not (because I know a lot of us donāt have the means) please just share this post and perhaps send them your thoughts and prayers. šā¤ļø #westerncanadastrong #prayforymm
