Thinking about Eva after the Hail Mary launch. Of course she will spend the rest of her life haunted by Grace, but beyond that, she will spend the rest of her life preserving the legacy of Ryland Grace. She didn’t even really respect him, she had to drag him kicking and screaming into space, she murdered him, and she will do everything in her power to prevent the world from knowing that when the world needed him, he tried to run. From that point forward, she will always be asked about him, from people who want to know what he was like, to answering questions about his last minute swap in during the tribunal, to squashing rumors that he ran. Stratt will never be free of what she did to him.

She cared for him deeply, sentenced him to death among the stars, and will preserve his false legacy as the last act of grace towards him.

I just think that Rocky is the most feral possessive bitch to ever exist when it comes to Grace. Sorry, if you don’t fix my space horse I’m NOT giving you any of the bacteria we almost died to get- oh hello mate Adrian, yes yes, Rocky DOES think this is perfectly rational, why do you ask? No, Rocky ran out of his Eridian Lexapro like four years ago this is now a hostage negotiation-

Sometimes I think about how Bungo Baggins built this wonderful expansive hobbit-hole for him and Belladonna with all these rooms and everything but then they only ever had Bilbo, and then Bilbo inherited it but he never married and only ever had Frodo, and then Frodo inherited it but he lived alone and then it passed into the hands of the Sackville-Bagginses and through Lotho to Saruman and was defiled--but THEN! Frodo takes it back and brings Sam and Rosie and their family in, and then he leaves it to them and they FILL Bag End with all their thirteen children and it becomes the Ancestral Family Home for an entirely new family!! And that's just enriched by all the inheriting that happened to pass it through these generations of people who loved each other to GET it to Sam!

It's just...just because you may not know who or what you're building something for doesn't mean the building you've done is wasted effort.

An Unexpected Yet Long-Awaited Party! <3

Humans are pretty prone to mimicking noises. like even subconsciously. sometimes we even unintentionally pick up entirely different accents. and you literally can't tell me you've never meowed or woofed or chirped back at a cat/dog/bird at least once in your life (unless you are physically/audibly unable to do so).

So Grace 1000% starts picking up and mimicking Eridian noises.

One day, Rocky will be working on something, only to freeze as he hears Grace behind him suddenly exclaim in fluent Eridian "SHIT!"

Turns out Eridian swear words are usually expressed in the same decibel that humans can whistle in. (obviously Grace has no idea what he's said, and if Rocky ever tells him, he'll be horrified).

I was rewatching wondering how Grace came to love Rocky. What were the steps from “maybe he won’t kill me” to “I could live with him” to “I will die for him”?

Clearly Grace’s first moment of adoring Rocky was when they start to dance together. Rocky’s willingness to play gave him joy.

He starts to trust Rocky when he takes off his helmet and there’s air for him to breathe. He took a leap of faith and was caught.

Working together made him respect him. So did the courage in “Grace Rocky save stars.”

And I think Rocky begging to watch him sleep made him trust him more. Rocky wanted to protect him. Grace needed that kindness. Rocky knew loneliness. Grace knew it too.

Then Rocky learning about Earth with Grace made him very fond. Rocky was willing to help hold Grace’s memories, his love for his lost world. And Rocky being a romantic who still wanted more time with his mate made Grace fonder; Rocky knew love, too.

Then Rocky’s horror that Grace would die opened Grace’s heart to the core. Someone would grieve him, someone loved him. Someone needed him to live.

So when Rocky almost dies to save him Grace is stunned, but he understands why. They love each other now. Love is brave.

Which is why he goes back for Rocky, and could never have done anything else. The love is the courage, the reason, the answer, the joy and the end.
