Notice: our Patreon billing will be paused indefinitely and all posts will be made publicly available.
Although I had previously considered switching us over to Ko-fi, all my work is still on an indefinite hiatus due to medical issues with fatigue and brainfog that have been a bit too frustrating to overcome in order to make that change.
If you are a current Patron, I am advising that you cancel your membership with Partway Decent Productions, as members-only content will now be made free and publicly accessible. Although I do not condone Patreon's shady practices, it will take me longer than I am comfortable with accepting money from members to transition to a different service, especially when links on existing published episodes lead to our public Patreon posts. I will continue to enable paused billing each month.
Many thanks for your patronage during our active months. I will always cherish that. Accepting that my health comes first has been difficult for me to come to terms with as someone who has spent most of my working life valuing what I make but I appreciate the patience and understanding the listeners of Trial and Error have shown me since making this decision in 2022. I hope that one day I can return to creating audio projects but, for now, this break will need to continue.
I would also be remiss if I did not let you know, If you are looking for somewhere to donate some cash each month, to please consider buying eSims for Gaza or donating to vetted Palestinian fundraisers to help individuals and families survive and escape genocide. Visit cartoonist.coop/esims4gaza or linktr.ee/opolivebranch for more extensive information on how to help.
Thanks as always, Dairy James

What if we had something like cassette futurism, but it was based more on early 90s with SVGA, MIDI, scifi floppy disks, DOS, modems, etc?
Then it would be awesome.
Can we keep the faux woodgrain though
OBVIOUSLY
Oh, to be a newly-sentient robot caressed tenderly by a strong, pretty butch who's concerned for you.
your honor who gives a fuck. like for real
a comic about printers
I remember seeing a post a couple months back of someone talking about printer troubles and companies making them bad deliberately, like pointlessly different screw sizes and a lying no-usb-compatibility sticker
If someone knows it please tell me, I'm pretty sure I remember it had good resources on a youtube channel that teaches you how to fix stuff!
This was Orwellian
[ID: A tiktok of someone responding to a person saying "tell me about the reason you quit your job". The speaker is a white person wearing a red shirt and with a beard and shaved head. They say "When I was in my 20s, I worked at a home goods store that is not called bath and body works. I was a junior manager and I worked 14 hours a day and there was a long time where I would go full weeks without seeing the sun. I found one of the windows had been painted over had a tiny little hole in it that I could gaze out of and see the sun for like 30 seconds a day. One day, one of my supervising managers caught me and I had the whole painted over."]
we should set more tv shows in fake US states the way we make up fake european countries for disney channel originals and hallmark movies
You know where they should use AI?

Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.
trial and error
I will never shut up about artificial intelligence and how much I love it. How we use it now and in the future. with the books i am reading as of late i.e. the raw shark text and xx, they both have to do with forms of life that are not the traditional term. Trial and error follows a scientist that is studying computers after they become sentient. This podcast has a lot going for it in my field. I hope it’s a home run hitter in your brain field.
9/10 wish there was more
imma binge listen to this short little podcast called Trial and Error and tell you what I think
You know what, fuck it, I don't *want* some frivolous, artisanal, lighter-than-air computer with no customizability, no upgradeability, no reparability, no ports, and a lifetime of *maybe* 3 years if you're lucky. I want a fucking great BEAST of a computer that's designed to last a minimum of 50 years, with ports up the wazoo and optional drives for every kind of media! I want modular components that you can drop in a bog for a year, dry them off, and have them still work fine! I want them to make a noise like "ker-chunk!" when you slide them into place! I want a switch that you pull to turn it on! And I don't want software that constantly forces you to get a pointless, cosmetic "upgrade" every few months either! I want durability! I want longevity! I want satisfying haptics! I want Silicon Valley to go fuck itself!

Just discovered your podcast and binged it. I love it- it feels like I've been looking for something like this without actually realizing it. I've always had a "thing" for robots, but most things I've found are either robots are servants and no one questions it or endless agony about are humans playing god/how do we know AI is sentient? to a frankly cartoonish level, so it's nice to see a realistic approach. I'm sorry about your health issues, and hope your pains ease soon!
Hello, and thank you! Thank you so much!
The show is, yes, still on indefinite hiatus. Health things are becoming more manageable but Trial and Error will remain tabled until I have the ability to return in a full capacity. I've greatly appreciated all the patience extended to me by listeners. This is very much a passion project of mine so, tragically, the dayjob I work for my month-to-month living expenses is my second priority after my physical and mental health. Often, this arrangement leaves little room for labors of love like Trial and Error is to me.
Despite the hiatus, you are more than welcome to join our small Discord server, too, if you'd like to discuss things and ask questions (not just about the podcast, but about robots and AI in general). Most of our guest voices are in there, as well as a few patrons.
