All I want... is to be close to him. That’s all.
he is freedom incarnate, and freedom must be tempered, tempered by life itself and by love
It's so fascintating to me how Armin and Mikasa are like push and pull to Eren; Armin pushing Eren forward to "freedom" with their dream, Mikasa pulling Eren back to the home they lost with her dream
Is Armin then the (albeit unintentional) "bad" influence within the framework of the story, as the "freedom" Eren sought in Armin's eyes resulted in the annihilation of 80% of humanity? And Mikasa the "good" influence, trying to pull him back to the good times they lost? But there's only pain there, because Eren cannot be content in that life...
This adds to why Armin promised to meet Eren in hell
Okay, another Twinkling Watermelon rant. People love saying things like "The reason Eun Gyeol was sent to the past was to realise how difficult his parents' youth was and to learn to respect their struggles". But they always seem to forget that Eun Gyeol's childhood wasn't easy either?!! Eun Gyeol was the only hearing person in his family and he spent his entire life interpreting for his parents. He had to listen to conversations no child should be listening to in the first place (eg: when that landlord lady said some mean stuff about his parents but he didn't translate that). Eun Gyeol had to grow up way too quickly because he had to always worry about the safety of his family in the hearing world (eg: the snowman scene). Eun Gyeol had worries no child should have at such a young age. He worried about making mistakes because he knew ppl would be hard on his family more than him. He sacrificed his happiness to keep his family happy. That is why he always wore a mask while performing, to protect himself from the disapproval of his parents. His parents put a lot of pressure on him to be perfect by saying things like "You are the reason I am where I am, you without the grades aren't the Eun Gyeol I know, etc". Yes, Eun Gyeol also put a lot of pressure on himself, he basically had the world on his shoulders which explains why he's so sensitive. He has to let it out somehow. But in a way, he felt obligated to try to keep his parents happy because he felt they were genuinely happy because of him and he didn't want to ruin that. He spent his entire life trying to keep other people happy that he didn't live for himself at all. And that is so fucking sad. I get that the new reality doesn't have the same struggles as the old one did and I'm so glad because atleast now Eun Gyeol can live for no one but himself.
It makes me so sad that eun yu gets so much hate. I feel like people don't give her the grace they give the other characters, which is so unfair because she's also just a teenager! She's traumatized and trying to make sense of her reality and past just like the rest of them, but because she hides behind a bubbly and easygoing facade people are way too willing to call her annoying (there's also the fact that she's similar to yichan in some ways, and yichan makes TONS of stupid mistakes as well but doesn't get treated the same way).
I for one have a special spot in my heart for characters that are depressed and struggling but shine so, so brightly for their friends. Yes, when she's unaware of something she gets in the way of 'plot' but she's also a supportive friend? I can never understand why people complain about characters acting like the person they're set up to be, just because it doesn't go along with the 'plot' they want to happen.
She's blunt, confident, a bit cheeky, but she also has so many insecurities and flaws. She's not perfect, and I love her for that. We need more female characters that are messy and complex and not just the typical personality types we usually see. Her and eungyeol clearly come from very different upbringings and have different worldviews so seeing them collide was such a delight. Seeing them completely fluster and challenge each other and then grow from that is why their romance really worked for me.
I wish we had more female leads like eun yu!!! She's such a sweetheart!!! I need more female leads that are sources of chaos!!!!
Now that the drama has ended I need to make an appreciation post about ha eungyeol. This boy is SO sweet. He doesn't even think before taking other people's burdens on as his own. The stress nearly kills him half the time but does he relent in how much he cares? Not at all, not until the message of the show finally comes crashing down, that you need to live your own life. The show does take a roundabout way of getting there, with plenty of trauma sprinkled in between, but it does get there.
He's also a complete mess. You can tell the life he's lived in order to keep his family safe ever since he was a child, in that he doesn't give a shit before doing something absolutely insane in order to fix things. Throw all social decorum out the window in order to get close to yichan and fulfill his dreams? Absolutely. Try to woo an ahjumma-he-doesn't-know-is-eunyu in order to salvage his parents relationship? Absolutely. Of course the stakes are high but he chooses the most insane ways to help. Like I would at least hesitate before jumping off a cliff.
Speaking of the cliff scene- that might be my favorite scene of the show. You feel his desperation. You feel how scared he is. And you see that he's still just a kid. The one thing this show did amazingly is show that despite his mature facade, despite the multitudes of burdens he takes on, despite how reliable he is, he's just a kid. He breaks down, he misses his parents, he misses the protection and guidance they offered. Eungyeol crying as he held on to yichan at the beach broke me. It was such a stark reminder that oh this boy is 18 and lost and has to carry all this by himself. How many other dramas show vulnerability like this? Or depict teenage characters as teenagers, who do stupid, insane things, and who at the end of the day are still figuring out life as they go, no matter how mature they may seem. It makes eungyeol seem human, and not just the typical teenage character in dramas. And it's not just eungyeol that's shown this way, all of the teenage cast feel like high schoolers - a bit immature and lost, but still trying their best
So I'm glad he gets to enjoy moments of youth he didn't exactly get in his own life. I'm glad he has all those memories with the band. I'm glad he meets eunyu who brings out the kid in him, who breaks through the mature side of him, till they're bickering and laughing and finally looking like the kids they are.
With where the show ended, I really hope he finally gets a sparkling youth of his own, in his life.
Eungyeol Protection Squad ™️ assemble!! That boy deserves all the happiness in the world
I will always be obsessed with ships that fit The Great War by Taylor Swift
Has anyone noticed how Nancy has absolutely no chill when it comes to Ace. I mean she is usually very rational and logical but when it comes to Ace she has like two braincells. Since the earliest episodes she has no sense of personal space when it comes to him and ONLY him. She tries to sacrifice her life to save her friends after he hints that she put their lives in danger. She gives a list of witnesses to a criminal and makes a shady deal with her grandmother to exonerate her grandfather to save his life. Legit goes to his house to confess her feelings for him even though he was in a relationship at the time. Kisses the next guy she sees after she thinks he stood her up and breaks up with him the very next day after Ace confesses his feelings. Offers Temperance her blood in exchange to save his life. Sacrifices a wholeass town (temporarily) for a chance to be with him. Tries to stay away from him and nearly folds every time he merely looks at her. Brushes off almost dying to try again to be with him. The absolute low, barely leaves her house after their breakup. Tries to send him signs and gestures to fight for her. Recognizes the sound of his car, the sight of his shoes and even the sound of his footsteps (girl, how?). And my personal favorite, accidentally starts a literal death game because she couldn’t handle him seeming indifferent to her dancing with someone else. And these are just the ones I can think of on the top of my head. I’ve seen so many posts about how Nancy moves on too fast and how she doesn’t care about Ace the way he cares about her and it baffles me. Because this girl is so in love that she barely sees anything but him. All her sound logic and calm flies right out of the window and she becomes this unhinged, chaotic version who’s willing to do anything and everything when it comes to him. She has a coping mechanism of getting into rebound relationships and Ace has definitely loved Nancy longer but that in no way means that she loves him any less.
My girl is down BAD
Examining that Nancy x Ace scene from 4x01
It’s been far, far, far too long since we’ve had new Nancy Drew, but they still managed to make it worth the wait. Honestly that last scene is absolutely unhinged and I am here for it. But I wanted to take a minute to break it down (because that’s my jam) and make myself feral watching it approximately 8,000 times. Fair warning it gets long, more beneath the cut.

The entire episode they were building up to this scene and the impact it delivered took my breath away. Every tiny nuance and movement and glance between them, every beat of the soundtrack in the background as it slowly crescendoed to her finally telling him the truth, I could watch it over and over again forever.
It’s just so RARE to see Brick hatless AND tying his hair... sightings happen about 2 to 3 times a year 👽
20. “Have you slept?” (Brick/Blossom)
{{Original posting unfortunately deleted. Reposted here.}}
February Fic Prompt #20 originally requested by the lovely philosophicwax.
Summary: It’s finals week at college, and Brick has hardly slept in two days while studying. A weird monster attacks because of course it does, and he has to team up with Blossom to bring it down while all he really wants to do is take a nap.
xxx
The great thing about college was that Brick was on his own, living his life, nine months out of the year completely on his terms. No brothers nagging him for shit, no cleaning up after anyone but himself, and no disruptions during study time. His life, his rules, quiet and tranquil.
Except for the giant, sentient hairball currently terrorizing north campus that some poor asshole (Brick) would have to deal with.
Because the worst thing about college was that he was on his own, living his life, nine months out of the year without his brothers around to follow his lead without question.
“Evacuate to Prospect Avenue!” Blossom’s clear, commanding voice rang out over the shouts and screams of fleeing students.

PPG One-Shot: “Girlfriend Material.” (Brick/Blossom)
February Fic Prompt #21 - Author’s Choice
For the wonderful @carriedreamerx, a fellow Reds die-hard and all-around A+ lady. Also can be read as kind of a part 2 to an earlier one-shot called Shook.
Summary: Blossom is having a bad day. Brick accidentally makes her feel better.
xxx
The four most dreaded words in the English language haunted Blossom after Julie’s party on Friday. They’d ruined the night, causing her to leave at nine p.m. alone, she didn’t want to drag Bubbles home early just because of her. They’d ruined her weekend plans—movie night with her sisters and Robin, studying at her favorite table at the public library, and Sunday family brunch. Through it all, Blossom was quiet and morose, and no one could get her to talk about why.
Why.
Those four stupid, little words.
They were just words, sticks and stones, as she often would tell Bubbles whenever she got upset about teasing that went too far.
“You’re not girlfriend material.”
Just four words.

Am I the only one who took issue with the "you were made to fight" parallel cuz like sorry but he absolutely was not!!! he is a malewife who was made to grow flowers!!!!
(also it felt like it undermined his point in the first one about affirming who she is and then also undercut the line later that "your boy has learned to fight"?? No? Just me????)
I didn’t initially agree with the first few lines in the post, once I saw the tags and understood what was meant, I definitely agree and both issues pointed out were the only things I didn’t feel a 100% about with Holmesbury in Enola Holmes 2. Starting with the 4 punches thing, that just didn’t feel right or funny to me, I mean maybe if it looked less like it hurt it wouldn’t have been as bad but those were genuine punches?? I was just not comfortable with that.
The ‘you were made to fight’ line was something I never resonated with despite loving the line itself and adoring it in the first movie, and as OP pointed out, the issue with that was definitely the *placing*. If it had validated what his character truly fights for and finds purpose in, which is the politics side of things, it would’ve been much better than it referencing a physical fight, as it doesn’t hold meaning to his character the way the line held meaning to the essence of Enola’s character in the first movie.
