“Fine, as you say.”
“Not now. But it would be helpful to have, I think.”
“Plan on doing something that would disturb your sleep?”
“It’s like a itch under my skin, I seem to have a longing to see what would happen if the world was set ablas, Tell me father do you ever dream and wake up wondering what it be like to kill a man?”
“Ah,” he sighed. “Being human certainly does come with grievances such as this, and it does not make you any less of a person than you are now.”
“I have thought of it once, yes. Why?”
“I…you are in a way unconventional father, I-I did not expect such flattery from a man of God. I can try?”
“A man of God, certainly, but still a man.”
“Oh, good. Then you have been washed of your sins, yes?”
“And my, how you do lightening the room, and somehow you are not the first to claim that, however, you do seem the only to do so, and it’s not the room that on display,” there was a pause, him walking across the stage, “What do I have to be grateful for?”
“Besides having these fancy, adoring folk as your... family? Or, whatever it is you call them.”
“Well, no sense being anything but blunt, if you insist on making this difficult. Someone told me to come to you for the draught.”
“Darling, you were the one speechless, I was only encouraging you to speak.”
“Having trouble sleeping?”
After having heard a noise on her walk back from the church, the brunette halts momentarily. Brown, uneasy eyes glancing up from the ground to survey her surroundings, her voice is firm, with hints of uncertainty. “… If someone is there, do reveal yourself.”
“I am just shutting the door and locking it, Beaumont. Do not fret.”
“Right…” She coughed lightly, pulling the cloak over her face. “Well, I… I believe I have not been very honest towards people. Is it… bad to lie for personal gain? Even when that gain is for… something good, so to speak?”
“No, lying is in human nature. Whether you wish to or not, you will lie more than you have planned to in life.” He smiled glancing toward the hooded figure. “You feel guilty,” he sighed. “That, in itself, shows integrity.”
“I wasn’t sure where to turn for advice, I cannot speak to my family about this matter, you see. I can’t even mention it to most of my friends.”
“They wish for me to marry, but I’m afraid that I don’t see myself living a happy life with the husband they have chosen for me. I know that I should follow their wishes and marry out of duty, but I often find myself wanting to run away instead.”
“Then you have come to the right place.”
“Perhaps you will learn to love each other, or learn to tolerate one another’s presence at the very lest. But if you feel you should run, then run. I will not tell a soul.”
“I’m sorry, I do apologize.
I was just here for confession.”
“Nervous?”
“Thank you father, I have sinned, I feel as though I have come in the way of an impending marriage.”
“As to be expected with someone so beautiful. It is, however, natural for the body to want another — think nothing of it. I would, if still burdened by guilt, try to focus on something self. Can you do that?”
It had been a moment in Bellamy’s speech, his words fading quickly and barely arriving at points before, it was only with his next sentence that he truly attempted to speak clearly, though his voice was soft, “A sleeping drought, do you sell them?”
He smiles at the other’s lack of speech, finding so amusement in it even if it was on behalf of another’s weakness. “Of course,” he chirped in a falsely cheerful voice. “Do you have coin? I do not give my droughts away for nothing, mal’chik. And there is the matter, of course, of telling me what is plaguing your dreams.” He grinned then, wide and sly. “You look like a man tormented with dreams of falling.”
“I Have terrible thoughts father, in truth I even question if the lord is true.”
“As all of us do, it’s understandable. However, whether the Lord is real or not should not stop you from confessing if you truly needed it.”
“I apologize, Father. It is just that… I do not know how else to put it without sounding… ridiculous, so to speak.”
“There is no one here to judge you. There is a reason for this wall between us.” He knocked his knuckles against the wood.
“I’m sorry father, I request your blessing if possible, and a confession.”
“Of course, m’lady. Speak your mind.”
“You will have to be more specific with what you need, you see... I do not have a lot of patience for awkward spaces of silence. Either I can help, or I cannot.”
“Oh? You’re not going to throw holy water on me because of my last confession, are you?”
“That you have been having lewd dreams about a certain priest? Of course not. He is more flattered than out raged.”
“What brings you here today?”
“Just came to see a heavenly face.”
