IceWings: I think IceWings commoners would be in the habit of naming their dragonets after royalty, so any member of nobility becoming very notable usually leads to a large increase in their name’s popularity.
- Caribou (most common; because of princess Caribou’s gift of subsistence, she became unbelievably beloved by the people, the name has retained its number 1 spot on IceWing naming charts for centuries)
- Diamond/other blue, white or transparent minerals (losing popularity)
- Glacier (especially after her murder by Darkstalker)
- Snow-something (Snowflake, Snowstorm, Snowfall (into queen Snowfall’s reign the amount of IceWings named this SKYROCKETS, even more so than the usual queen’s name))
- Aurora/Borealis
- Winter (an exception to the royalty name -> popularity rule, it was already a common name before the prince, his parents just didn’t care enough to think of something original)
SandWings: They are surprisingly conservative when it comes to naming customs, any unconventional names are quick to be seen as weird. Like how Qibli was seen as having a weird name by his SandWing peers, but not by dragons from other tribes.
- Dune (most common; losing popularity due to how infamous the Talons of Peace member Dune has become for being the most wanted man alive for a hot minute)
- Sandstorm
- Viper/other snakes
- Quicksand
- Scorpion
- Scorch/Burn/Char/other fire associated things
MudWings: Like SandWings, MudWings are pretty traditional when it comes to names. In other tribes it’s often said that MudWing mothers don’t care enough to think of new ones.
- Reed (most common)
- Crocodile
- Bog/Marsh/Mire/other humid biomes
- Dragonfly (not actually a common name, but whenever a dragon from another tribe makes a MudWing caricature, it’s almost always named Dragonfly)
NightWings: Because of NightWing naming conventions, it isn’t very common for the exact same name to be used very often, it’s more that specific prefixes and suffixes are prevalent.
- Mindreader/Prophet/Oracle (most common; in ancient NightWing society, these names were seen as tacky, but in the time when the NightWings lost their powers, they were incredibly popular. These naming trends are coming to a close at present, because of how unbeloved NightWing powers currently are to the general public)
- Star-something
- Moon-something
- something-claws
- something-wings
- something-sight
SkyWings: They don’t have any strict naming conventions.
- Sunrise/Sunset (most common; though having two dragonets named Sunrise and Sunset respectively is seen as being in poor taste and will be heavily judged)
- Hawk/Eagle/Feather/other avian creature or attribute
- Crimson/Scarlet (formerly popular name, though the use of this name has dropped to zero in recent years)/other shades of red, orange or gold (traditional names; these are more prevalent in militaristic SkyWing families)
- Ruby/Garnet/Jasper/other red, orange or gold minerals are easy to find on a list of SkyWing names (gaining popularity, especially in groups that opposed queen Scarlet and militarism)
RainWings: Because the RainWings use a specific list of names on rotation, there aren’t actually any names more common than others.
SeaWings: They don’t have any strict naming conventions.
- Tsunami (most common; a pretty rare name at first, but in the present day, about every other dragonets is called this. The Missing Princess was a story as well-known in the Sea Queendom as Romeo and Juliet is to us and the Queen made a BIG deal out of her daughter’s return. Tsunami is a household name these days and a very trendy thing to name your dragonet)
- Ripple
- Turtle
- Gill (again, a household name due to the Queen and a story every SeaWing knows)
- Indigo (after the legendary ‘slayer of Albatross’)
LeafWings: They used to not have any strict naming conventions, but due to their dwindling numbers, nationalism has increased and traditional names are now strictly stuck to. There are currently so few LeafWings that there are few with the same names. The naming conventions differ between the Sap- and PoisonWings.
Sap- and PoisonWings:
- Maple (most common)
- Oak/other tree or plant species
- Photo
SapWings:
- Poppy/Hazel/other non-dangerous plants
PoisonWings:
- Nettle/other dangerous plants
SilkWings: They don’t have any strict naming conventions.
- Monarch (most common; after the great Queen)
- Nectar/Pollen/Honey
- Morpho (in particular for SilkWings with a lot of blue. In recent years it’s started losing popularity and these days naming a blue dragonet Morpho is seen as too on-the-nose)/other butterfly species
- Luna (after both the moth and the old word for ‘moon,’ which Clearsight was rumored to have received her powers from. The name became even more common after the defeat of the Othermind)/other moth species
- Spinner/Weaver (same as with the MudWing name ‘Dragonfly,’ these are more common as SilkWing caricatures by HiveWings than as actual names)
HiveWings: Similar to IceWings in that they like naming their dragonets after royalty. Since the splitting of the Silk- and HiveWing tribes, this tradition is slowly losing popularity.
- Scarab/Jewel (most common; gaining popularity)
- Wasp (used to be the most common; though same case as with ‘Scarlet’, it had a VERY definitive cease in prevalence)
- Tsetse/Hornet/Vinegaroon/Bloodworm (least common out of the royalty derived names)/Mantis/Cicada
- Yellowjacket (though hip parents just go for ‘Jacket’. This is the Wings of Fire equivalent of naming your daughter Heaighleigh instead of Hailey)
- Scorpion (when Pantala and Pyrrhia first established contact, there was a joke going around about the HiveWing Scorpions and the SandWing Scorpions being related. This positively impacted the relationship between the two tribes and further strengthened the bond between Pantala and the Pyrrhian westcoast. It also sparked conspiracy theories)

telling starving tgirls who complain about no hrt gains to "eat like a teenager" is slightly incorrect; in a sense, she already is eating exactly like a teenage girl. tell her to eat like a healthy teenager
it should go without saying but apparently it needs to be said over and over and over again because every time i hear my mom tease my sister for playing wolfquest, every time i hear a teacher tease a kid for doodling, every time i hear a babysitter laugh at a kid explaining the plot of a show they like, it drives a fuckin stake through my heart because i was that kid once.
i was made fun of enough times by adults, by peers, for liking something and wanting to share it that i just. didn’t. anymore.
dont fucking tease kids for liking things. even if you think its cringe. ESPECIALLY. if you think its cringe. because the way you speak and act towards them when they are sharing themselves with you STICKS and they will think of it years down the line.

I was a substitute teacher for a little while between grad schools, and one day I had a middle school math class for the morning. The work they were assigned wasn’t *especially* hard, and one little girl knocked it out in 20 minutes. She started drawing what was very obviously Sans Undertale, and when I noticed I wanted to be supportive, and had the following exchange:
“What’s that you’re drawing?”
*panicking* “It’s nothing, I’m sorry, I’ll put it away.”
“No it’s okay, I was just curious about it.”
“It’s nothing. I don’t want to get in trouble.”
“You’re not in trouble, I just thought it looked like a character from a video game I like.”
Her face *lit up* the second I gave her the smallest bit of approval. She started asking me if I’d heard of various AUs for Undertale, and I tried to follow along as she explained her favorites. I obviously had to keep an eye on the rest of the class, answering questions and helping with algebra, but each time I passed her desk she had more things to tell me.
Anyway, it was very cute, but also a little sad how obviously starved she was for someone kind to talk about her stories with. Kids deserve to have someone in their corner, and it takes no effort at all to smile and listen if they have something they want to share. Preserve the earnestness you want to see in the world.
