Continuing to be warm and soft and open to the possibilities of life even when it seems hopeless and you’re heartbroken and soul sick does actually work btw. Like there will be love around you again and real recognizes real

TAYLOR SWIFT - New York Knicks vs Cleveland Cavaliers game - May 23, 2026
“No one remembered my birthday-” Well, but did YOU tell anyone it was coming up and you wanted to celebrate it with them?
“I wish someone would see through it when I tell people I’m fine-” Well, but have YOU considered not lying when people ask you how you’re doing?
“I am so resentful of my friend because they keep doing this thing that really bothers me-” Well, but have YOU directly communicated that the thing is bothering you?
“I am burning out because my friend keeps expecting me to help them with serious struggles-” Well, but have YOU tried to establish the boundaries you need to feel okay?
“No one ever asks me about this thing I really care about-” Well, but have YOU brought it up yourself?
“I miss my friend but they haven’t texted me-” Well, but have YOU been reaching out to them?
Sometimes people are mean, uncaring assholes, in which case you get to be mad. But sometimes you just need to communicate better. Try communication before you assume someone doesn’t care!
Having someone who knows you on such a deep level that they see past your mask, or sense you need a check in is such a deep satisfying fantasy. It’s up there with living in a cottagecore farm, or buying all your friends houses when you win the lottery. But you have to make peace with the fact that this is also a fantasy. It is unfair to expect people to “just know” when to respect your boundaries or to push them.
Being cared for is not a fantasy. But you have to let people know you need it. And you have to understand that sometimes they will let you down. Just like you totally could live in a cute farm, but you still have to shovel shit, and the crops sometimes die anyway. Or maybe you win the lottery, but you still have to manage your money and learn real estate law.
The fantasy isn’t the caring, the fantasy is not having to do the work. And it sucks. It’s embarrassing. But like the meme says, it’s not rotten if it’s YOU. So do it for yourself.
“The fantasy isn’t the caring, the fantasy is not having to do the work”! Thank you for that addition. Because it’s not a naive expectation to want someone to care to treat you right. But it requires communication and mutual effort to actually get there
If you're someone who struggles with interoception (knowing/understanding what your body is feeling):
if there's a task, especially a recurring one, that you find difficult to do and that you keep avoiding, check whether you're in pain or physical discomfort.
For a long time I would avoid doing tasks like showering because they nebulously made me feel 'bad' or i just instinctively felt like avoiding them. It wasn't until I got a shower chair that I realised standing to shower was causing me pain. My bodymind knew that on some level but didn't tell the conscious me.
Similarly with sensory aversions (things you don't like). Before I got kitchen gloves, I did the dishes but it took me a long time and I never wanted to. Afterward, it got a lot easier to motivate myself.
"But how can you not know you're in pain/uncomfortabke?" Extremely easily if your brain is wired a specific way or if you were taught, intentionally or not, to downplay your own experiences or distance yourself from your body.
There's no shame in struggling with these things. hope y'all are having nice days and you're able to do something today that makes it a little easier.
the sexiest thing a woman can be is a cringe fujoshi with a very serious day job
It's usually something you'd sing about later in life, but the entertainment industry, I'll tell you...
so true but I knew it was about her house as soon as she said holiday house best song ever btw
the reveal that The CD™ no longer exists and taylor had to basically reconstruct the 10 minute version from diary notes and bits and pieces and memory has left me with my jaw on the floor.
i have to defend fictional women who aren't good people because if i don't who else will
the two flavours of this feeling are "i think she is flawed and going through it and figuring her shit out and that's a very human quality that i appreciate seeing in a female character" and "i think it's good she killed and ate those people and i think it's really hot that she didn't feel bad about it because confidence is attractive"
just saw a post talking about the misogynistic phenomenon of men frequently offloading household tasks to women & expecting us to do them... and describing it as "learned helplessness"
we are putting that term on the shelf
Learned helplessness is the behavior exhibited by a subject after enduring repeated aversive stimuli beyond their control. In humans, learned helplessness is related to the concept of self-efficacy, the individual's belief in their innate ability to achieve goals.
literal first paragraph of the wikipedia article for learned helplessness. this is a depression symptom. it is frequently caused by lifelong abuse from controlling authority figures. it is the exact OPPOSITE of an abuse tactic and would most likely be displayed by the WOMEN in that kind of scenario!!
the actual relevant term for what the man is doing is probably "weaponized incompetence" which is an abuse tactic. please for the love of fuck do not conflate the two

Anne Hathaway on Taylor Swift from The New York Times
when people bemoan the "falling birth rate" all i hear is someone who has very likely made a large part of their personality their Desire To Kill All Pedophiles being sad about a 20-year global decrease in child rape. sorry but you are not serious people to me.
like do you know why the birth rates have plummeted GLOBALLY since 2007? aggressive intervention against grown men impregnating children. literally, that is what it is. the birth rate decrease is attributed to teen pregnancy rates falling dramatically all around the world in the past two decades, and statistically, over half of all births to teen mothers (particularly those under 15) are fathered by men over 20. the falling birth rate is quite literally a reflection of a worldwide decrease in children being forced to carry an adult rapist's fetus to term. you will never convince me that this is a negative thing.
oh for sure and as one of those educated independent girlbosses contributing to the falling birth rate myself i'm right there with you, but it just feels like we're getting all the credit when a massive part of this has to do with teen pregnancy rates hitting historic lows both in the US and globally, which is amazing for so many reasons. it's a huge public health victory. and also, quite frankly, as we stare down AI and automation potentially destroying millions of jobs in the next decade, i also refuse to believe that the "lower birth rates mean fewer workers for the economy" rhetoric has any merit to it. realistically, what it means is that lower birth rates mean fewer out of work or underemployed people trapped in the cycle of generational poverty. it means fewer unwanted children being born into homes where they are going to be abused or neglected. and of course it means fewer women having their lives and futures derailed by forced conscription into motherhood before they're completely ready and making that choice for themselves. there will never be any context in which you can convince me that lower birth rates are a bad thing!! it's an unambiguous win!!
