Bobby Shmurda’s Lawyer: “Everybody’s F***ing Snitching”
In less than six months, Bobby Shmurda made it from the streets of Brooklyn to the Billboard charts to behind bars.
The 20-year-old born Ackquille Pollard is no longer a star, but a statistic—another black male being embraced by America’s prison system rather than his father, who is also currently incarcerated.
It’s a vicious cycle that Kenneth Montgomery knows all too well. Growing up in Brooklyn during New York City’s storied crack epidemic, he remembers learning to fight simply so he could get home safely. One altercation involving a box-cutter left him with a long scar across the bottom of his chin. He shares the story as if it was a rite of passage rather than a traumatic experience.
Like many of his childhood friends, Mr. Montgomery made it from the streets of Brooklyn to the courtroom. However, he chose a different path to get there. Now, rather than standing trial and defending himself, the 42-year-old lawyer is defending others, most recently fellow Brooklyn native Bobby Shmurda.
