Dear internet,
Please give me all the advice you have on writing cover letters. Like, the closer you can get to literally just writing a cover letter for me, the better. Ok bye.
This is how I did the one for my librarian position. Â I hope it helps.
Dear Person Hiring for this Job,
I am writing to ask you to consider me for X position. Â This is a paragraph about why I want to do X position in general. Â It includes at least one personal detail and at least one job skill I consider a particular strength. Â It argues that I am passionate about this career. Â It is not long.
I have had the opportunity to gain experience in this job by - paragraph about my work or study experience. Â It should go from most recent experience back. Â Include some details about your responsibilities/achievements in your most recent or most important positions. Â If you have mostly study experience, give more detail about what exactly you studied. Â If you shadowed people, mention that. Â If your work experience is largely unrelated, try to shoehorn some of it in (e.g. I gained experience working with people by). Â You can supplement with relevant hobbies. Â (But if you do have recent, relevant work experience, you should largely be detailing that. Â Only embroider the other stuff if you need to flesh it out.) Â This should be the longest paragraph.
I hope you will consider allowing me to do X thing at your company. Â This is a few sentences about why I want to work at your company in particular and what I think I could bring. Â Try to mention at least one detail from the company website, so they know you visited it. Â This is a short paragraph that parallels the first one.
Thank you very much for your time and attention.
Sincerely,
Person You Would Be a Fool Not to At Least Interview
oh my god thank you this is relevant to current interests
Two other points, to challenge whatâs being said above a little:
1) Remember that the person reading this cover letter wants to know how you can contribute to the company. Not how excited you are about the position: itâs all about what they gain. Try framing the whole thing in that sense â âYou would gain my X awesome skill that would help you Y with your mission.â âHereâs why Iâm awesome and a great fit for making your company go better.â
2) At the end, ask for the interview. âI am available at PHONE NUMBER at your convenience. I look forward to speaking with you about this great opportunity soon.â Maybe even say youâll be following up at a specific time and date. Ask for the job. People respond to that, and itâs a good way to fake confidence until you make it. Ask for the job.
Okay, three points. People reading cover letters get SO BORED going through them. Think about starting off with a story that relates to why youâre interested in the job, or that demonstrates a skill or a strong interest that would make you a good candidate. Be memorable â people remember stories, even (maybe especially) very little ones.
*hoards advice*
Hello! Â Being a Biology student, I figured that it will be nice to share to you all my experience with the course/program. Throughout my year of dealing with the ups and downs of bio, hereâs what I have to tell you:Â
Before Class
Read the course syllabus (if you have one) and find time to research or scan your books about the topics to be discussed in class.Â
It can be really tiring to read your book since most topics contain long chapters, but be sure to familiarize yourself with the indicated pictures or graphs.Â
Do not memorize the entire chapter! Just a background knowledge about the topic to be discussed and youâre good to go!
List down things that you donât understand. Keep this list so that you can ask your teacher or professor during class.
One effective trick for me is that I will take down notes (like I normally would when in class) from a chapter of my book, bring those notes to class, take down notes again (this time, from what the professor is saying), combine those two notes, and revise (Yep, time-consuming but this one is very effective for me!).
if you don't wanna study, then teach.
you donât need a class or a phd in education (you need them apples if you wanna become a teacher.) no no no, all you need is someone willing to listen (or if youâre on short supply of humans, a stuffed/living animal will work) or if you dgaf then just talk to yourself.
basically, go through the study guide and explain the answers as if youâre teaching them. talk about the main themes in a book, the parts of the digestive system, how to go about solving a differential equation. whatever floats your aquatic vehicle.
teaching really helps you to learn, because it forces you to actively recall information, as well as putting it into logical sentences. this can help with your thinking on the test, because youâve already taught yourself step by step how to do something/how something works. if youâre drawing a blank, jot that downânow you know what you have to study.
the key here is to STUDY WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW.
this sounds stupid, but so many times i find myself studying things that i already know cuz i âjust want to make sure i really get it.â take a blank piece of paper, and write down as much as you know about a certain topic. check it against your textbook or study guide. whatever you missed is what you need to focus on in order to master it.
studying is good, but it can only take you so far. to be able to teach and talk about something means that you really have to know your shit, so if you can legitimately and effectively teach your teddy bear how to factor a quadratic with a leading co-efficient, then you know your shit. no guarantees your teddy will get into an Ivy, but if you keep studying by teaching, at least youâll have a good shot.
good luck with whatever youâre doing. (you got this)
In honor of my 5th semester in a row of all Aâs (hell yeah boiiiii) Iâm going to make this post. I donât know how I did it because I am honestly so lazy.
Grades are reflective of your work ethic and your ability to strategize, not your intelligence.
Be real with yourself. Are you sure you are ready to commit to perfect grades? Are you ready to work, day in and day out, when it sucks and classes are boring and hard? Are you ready to feel satisfied for all of the hard work you put in? If the answer is yes, congratulations. You are on your way to becoming a straight-A student.
Prioritize classes. Not every class requires the same amount of work, and you should find out the hardest classes early on in the semester. These will take the most time, and you will have to spend extra time and effort to get a good grade. When choosing classes, make sure you will be able to handle them. Make sure you will be able to ace all of them, at the same time. That being said, donât shy away from hard classes. You have to challenge yourself. Take a few APâs. They are worth it.
Make friends with teachers/professors, especially the ones that teach hard subjects. I am very close with my chemistry professor, and this has proved invaluable because I am able to get free tutoring, as well as a great recommendation letter for college apps.
Have other goals. You need to do something that is not studying to keep you productive. I would highly recommend joining a sports team or club. I exercise (usually running and weightlifting) at least 2 hours a day, usually more. Playing 2 sports made me more healthy, social, and productive. Running calms me down, and weightlifting makes me feel strong. Do whatever makes you feel good, as long as itâs healthy.
Learn to manage time well. How do I play 2 sports, get straight Aâs, have a studyblr, and have time to spare? The answer is that I take care of myself well. I go to bed at 10:30 or 11 each night so I can get 7 ish hours of sleep. I do homework during lunch or in class so I donât do it at home.
Slack off. Yep. I said it. I complete assignments strategically, spending the most time on things worth the most points. Things that will only take a few minutes can occasionally be done in class right before the teacher is collecting homework. I have done this all too often. That being said, small assignments really do add up so make sure you do an acceptable job and turn them in on time.
Turn something in. It is ok to sometimes slack off in quality, but if something is due, you better turn something in. Something is better than nothing. Getting extensions on assignments for no reason will make the teacher think you are lazy, or donât care about their class. Every single essay and worksheet does not have to be your best work, but make sure you fill the basic assignment requirements, and it should be enough.Â
Extra. Credit. Some classes donât offer this, but if they do, just freaking do it man. Knowing you can miss an assignment because you did extra credit earlier is the best feeling, especially when doing that assignment would have meant losing sleep.Â
Plan (sort of). I have a bullet journal where I write important assignments down. As I said, there are some assignments not worth your time that you can half-ass. The ones I write down are the ones I need to do well. If you write down every. last. assignment. you will burn out and stop planning altogether.Â
Sometimes, go above and beyond. You know that subject you really like? With an awesome teacher? Spend time on it. Make your project extra beautiful, and read ahead in the textbook. Watch video lectures online, and maybe even make a studyblr post about it. Your extra work might not be turned in for credit, but it will make you feel a whole lot more knowledgeable on the subject. Do this for classes you hate, too. Maybe itâs not as bad as you think it is. The extra effort might allow you to see the beauty in a subject you used to despise.Â
Be real with yourself (again). This past semester, I had a B+ for a few months in a subject I really love. I wasnât mad, and I didnât stress about it, because, honestly? It doesnât really matter. Eventually I brought the grade up again, but it would be fine to me either way.Â
hey guys! iâve been seeing a lot of master posts going around so I thought Iâd compile some together for college students :^)

Rest and self-care are so important. When you take time to replenish your spirit, it allows you to serve others from the overflow. You cannot serve from an empty vessel.

I'm back!!!
Oh my god. I haven't beeb updating here ever since the second half of last year D:. Life got busy, and there were some life-changing things I had to go through. One of them is finally deciding to change my major. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate and know my major's contribution to society. However, I'm the type of person who cannot live without passion. I firmly believe in pursuing what your heart tells you (although I am very amazed at people who excel in fields they don't have too much of an affinity of). There were so many things I went through just because I didn't love what I was doing. I may be a little late, but I've finally decided to get out. I'm eyeing Social Work or Family Life and Child Development as my next course. But, for now, I have to focus on getting my grades as high as I can to be eligible for major shifting. I would sincerely like to thank everyone who's still following me. I'll do my best to properly update this blog on my journey towards doing what I love. If I have to start again to get there, I will. My name's Erris, now 19 years old. I'm an ENFP who's changing my major. đ Love you all. In the meantime, I'm going to cry over the struggle I'm having with enlisting for subjects D:. I still can't enroll because my subjects haven't reached the unit requirement for enrollment. Wish me luck!!
