when I was like fifteen or something I asked my parents to buy me a copy of good omens for my birthday, because a friend had told me that it was cute and fun and funny. this was around the time they were doing those companion book covers (the white version with crowley and the black version with aziraphale).

my mom ended up buying me the aziraphale version and before she gave it to me she took me aside very very seriously and was like, "hey. this isn't a satanic book, is it?"

and I, who was very not used to my mom being That Kind of Mom, was like, "uhhhhhhh I don't think so? I think it's just cute and fun and funny?"

in honor of it not being christmas: feeling soft about 1-4 and how good and valuable it was for me-- a teenage basket case in the american south during the early 00s-- to have a story about trauma that combines the feel-good but kind of fantastical Very Special Episode wherein truth is revealed, evil is vanquished, etc, with the much more realistic aftermath of, joke’s on you asshole, you now have closure AND post traumatic stress disorder!!
