Support Student Katsuki AU
I would like to propose an AU in which Katsuki is a support student. Only, he still has quirk.
At some point when he was little, before he got his quirk, some kid made a comment to Katsuki. Maybe they were making fun of his dad for working in fashion design or something, but it ended up with Katsuki swearing that he was going to prove them wrong and show that support/costume designers are the unsung heroes of the hero world. He says “Good support items are even more important than a good quirk and I’m going to prove it!”
Izuku and him are already friends, and Izuku is very worried! Because before they were planning to be heroes together! Katsuki tells him it’s okay though, Izuku will be the hero and Katsuki will work at his agency as his support. Izuku was always the sweetheart anyways, and this way Katsuki won’t have to talk to lots of annoying people. They make a promise to each other, that Izuku will be the No.1 pro-hero and Katsuki will support him every step of the way.
When Katsuki gets his quirk, a powerful quirk almost perfectly suited to hero work, people start asking him all the time if he’s going to be a hero or try to encourage him to become one instead. This only increases his Spite Levels to Absolute Maximum. He’s like 4-5 and out to prove that support for heroes is more important than something silly like a quirk. Izuku is the only one who doesn’t pressure Katsuki to try and become a hero, because he knows that isn’t what his best friend wants.
Then Izuku discovers he’s quirkless.
He stays home from school for two days, and when he comes back he can’t speak to Katsuki at all. Katsuki is genuinely scared for his friend by this point. At the end of the school day Katsuki corners him and demands to know what happened. Izuku breaks down and starts crying.
“I’m so sorry Kacchan, I know I promised you that I would be the No.1 pro-hero but I- I- I’m quirkless.”
Several seconds of silence and Izuku can’t even look at him because he knows Katsuki will hate him now.
And then Izuku looks up at his friend whose giving him a frown but seems more confused than anything else.
“What do you mean ‘that’s it’? I just told you I’m quirkless and my momma said I can’t be a hero without a quirk. You’ll have to be a hero instead of me.”
“Well that’s bullshit. Half the heroes nowadays rely more on support items than their quirks anyways, and there’s plenty of heroes with quirks that could be completely replicated with the right support weapon!”
Then he pauses, thoughtful, looking off into the distance.
“Actually this will be even better! I’ll get to prove that the support items are more important than some dumb quirk with absolute certainty! No one will be able to question the value of support items once the No. 1 pro-hero is quirkless.”
Izuku looked up at him with wide shining eyes now.
“You… You really still think I can be a hero Kacchan? Even without a quirk?”
That got Katsuki to focus back on Izuku and give him that bright smile that Izuku couldn’t help but adore. The smile that made Izuku feel like he could do anything.
“I know you will be. I’m going to make you the best hero ever, without any dumb quirk.”
