Confined Space

We went through a confined space prop today. In props like these, most areas are no bigger than 2 feet wide and 3 feet tall. That means there’s no Santa coming down this chimney. With blackened out masks, we must navigate this course in a timely manner and before our air packs run out of oxygen. Due to these circumstances, I had the pleasure of going head first over a 4 foot drop. Which, we were supposed to descend feet first on. Luckily, I didn't do any damage beyond a bruise on my side. It was a great training prop and I had a lot of fun going through it.

Master Streams (Deck Guns)

Set up exposure protection master streams today. Don’t know if it was a blessing or a curse. Between the tripod mount and turret itself, I swear that thing must weigh a ton! Not to mention having to drag the 2 1/2 inch. hose lines that have to connect to it. When we called for water, the turret accidentally water hammered and almost caused some damage to itself and us. Hernandez, a guy on my team, and I were able to use our body weight to hold the lines down until Smith was able to open the turret and release the pressure from the deck gun. A good drill none the less.

Car Fires

Today I assisted in proctoring a Firefighter I practical exam! We went through the lengthy process of lighting the same car on fire twenty-three times and putting it out over the course of 7 hours. The car is hooked up to a series of propane emitting pipes that are lit with a road flare, which just so happened to be in my hand every time the car needed lighting.....go figure right.....?.....Anyway, after that, the candidates had to attack the car with a charged hose line and successfully extinguish the fire and any possible rekindles. It was a great experience.
