I fear everyday that I’ll be told I “write like chatGPT” but then I remember that AI can never write a cowboy supernatural fic as well as I can.

Quick reminder for fanfic writers both on here and ESPECIALLY on AO3…
If your main character has a name and described appearance, DO NOT use the character x reader tag. Like…seriously.
That is an OC. Use the “x oc” or “x original character” tag. Stop using the “x reader” tag. It will not give you more reach because people looking through the “x reader” tag aren’t going to read it. Three guesses why.
You are also making the filtering system null and void, which is harmful ESPECIALLY for archival sites like ao3 where the tags and filtering system are specifically there to make things easier. It’s basic fandom etiquette guys. Common sense and consideration for others. It won’t kill you to tag things correctly.
honestly? abandoned/on indefinite hiatus/very slow to update fics, even and especially AUs and longfics, are often some of my absolute favorites. and people who refuse to read them are missing out!
for one, stories don’t have to be finished to be enjoyable and worth reading. but also? an unfinished fic is a whole little universe that just keeps on existing in my head! their world stays alive for me in a way that doesn’t always happen with fics I binge read and finish, and i love it. i don’t know how their story ends, so it just keeps going! and even when those stories DO update and finish years later, they’ve been in my head for so long that they stick around like old friends.
so to any author with unfinished works: thank you SO much for sharing what you had without waiting to finish it first. you’re just giving me the gift of getting to spend more time with your story and your idea. if you do update again someday, i’ll be delighted to jump back in! but if you don’t, just know a little piece of your world still lives on in a beloved tiny terrarium in my brain. i promise i’m taking good care of it :)
i don’t normally ask this, but if this resonates with you please reblog it, so it can reach the authors who need to hear it <3
One of my favourite things about reading fan fiction is witnessing people’s writing get better with every chapter and new fic.
Whether it’s their first time posting, or their fiftieth fic, it’s so great to watch people’s voices, styles, and prose in general emerge and improve with every update.
the etiquette of tumblr dot com is that whenever you make a post about something, there will always be people who reblog your posts saying they agree with you, and then in that very same reblog proceed to miss the entire point by saying the complete opposite of what you actually said

“oh. oh” in writing is a treasure. I will never stop using it and cherishing it.

things I won’t let ai take away from human writers
em dash
“not x, not y, but z”
short sentence stacking as a stylistic choice
none of these belong to ai. these are all what human writers have been writing since day one, way before ai was invented. ai was trained to mimic how human writers write — so em dash, not x not y but z and short sentence stacking would never have been used by ai at all if ai hadn’t learned and mimicked them from human writers.
no, you are not “fighting against ai” by accusing every work that has em dash, not x not y but z or short sentence stacking in it as ai-generated, you are helping ai harm the writing community by engaging in witch hunt and scaring human writers away from creating/sharing their works for fear of being wrongly accused of using ai.
speculations, accusations and ai witch hunt harm the writing community as much as ai does, if not more.
fanfic writers deserve to be able to do things that will land them on the news without any consequences at least once a month, because imagine being kind enough to let people read your works—that you write for yourself and your own enjoyment—for free (also see my em dash that I refuse to let ai take from me?) and then some entitled asshole thinks they can just say whatever they want.
nobody “talks like chatgpt”. chatgpt talks like human, because it was trained on how human talked and it was trained to mimic how human wrote.
public bookmarks are public. I am begging more people to realize and remember this. anybody, including the writers, can see the comments you leave on your public bookmarks.
this type of comment is the exact reason more and more writers stop sharing their works online. ai witch hunt, speculations and accusations harm the writing community as much as ai does, if not more. by leaving this type of comments, you are helping ai destroy the writing community.
reminder to fellow writers: even writing a single paragraph counts as progress
Ways to fix writer's block
OPTION 1: Try turning the writer on and off (it works)
OPTION 2: if option 1 doesn't work, try putting the writer in rice.
please PLEASE, guys, stop commenting on fics saying things like “sorry but this is wrong, and on top of that there’s this plot hole that you didn’t fill and did nothing with”
writing fic is a HOBBY, not something that’s perfect, and sometimes people just wanna write something, and don’t want to be told what they did wrong:/
People always ask “what’s in the box” but they never ask “who’s in the box” or “how’s the box doing?”
