oh my goodness, one of dian fosseyâs first close up observations with gorillas happened when she was trying to climb a tree to see them better, but so badly that by the time sheâd gotten up the entire group had come out of hiding to look at her: âNearly all members of the group had totally exposed themselves, forgetting about hiding coyly behind foliage screens because it was obvious to them that the observer had been distracted by tree-climbing problems, an activity they could understand.â
hello, fellow apes
The lead up to that sentence is gold:
Weak? I had NOT drawn those guys like this in a while! Feels good to get back to it. #pascalcampion

Trump and the GOP are wanting poor kids to die while their kids who go to private schools are safe because those schools aren't opening. Trump and the GOP are fucking monsters.
Strike
Itâs not just a lack of care if children die. Itâs the long-game Republicans have been playing for decades. Itâs the destruction of public education. Parents that have the time and money will pull their kids and home school them or theyâll find a way to send their kids to a private school thatâs doing distance learning. School funding is dependent on the number of students attending. Significant drops from home schooling, switching to private schools, to students getting sick and being out for weeks maybe even months will crush public education. The GOP is aware of the devastation a pandemic would release on public education and theyâre fine with that. They encourage the destruction.
I think a common mistake people make about puns is that they often believe puns are meant to make people laugh. This is not so! The emotion that puns are meant to elicit isnât joy, itâs rage.
Puns are meant to inflict punitive damage
i think we should just be able to use counterfeit money. like who cares
She was right
Also: donât stigmatize HIV+ individuals because they all have different circumstances and mightâve  gotten the virus from a variety of sources (sex, occupational, birth, blood transfusions in other countries).Â
HIV-related stigma remains a huge barrier to preventing HIV, and is linked to a low level of people testing for HIV.Â
The bad news is that Trump is cutting Americaâs spending on HIV year after year. He has taken steps to weaken the Affordable Care Act since coming to power.
prep is preventative, pep is what you take after initial exposure
In Capitalist America, sex education is on twitter and tumblr!
On PrEP for about three years now and my masterâs degree focused on HIV, so if you have ANY questions about PrEP or HIV please DM me and Iâll be happy to chat. It doesnât matter where you are in the world, letâs chat about sex and HIV.
americans think ABSOLUTELY NOTHIN of driving 7 hours. theyâll drive 7 hours just for dinner. theyâll drive 7 hours just for chips and dip
i went to england to visit the family of this boy im dating in birmingham. one of his sisters lived in manchester and his whole family kept being like we wish lila was her you would love her blah blah blah lila would just lobe you blah and I was finally like well why couldnât she make it? everyone was like lol as we said sheâs in manchester??? thatâs it. i looked up the distance and itâs like less than two hours away and when me and my dude went to grab a beer later that night I was like so does Lila not get along with your parents like whatâs up? again, heâs like babe I told you sheâs in manchester. I was like are the villages at war????? he goes âitâs too far. this isnât holiday.â I was like babe weâve drivin 4-5 hours for weekend trips to the beach Im just confused- and he cuts me off and goes âthatâs American me. We donât do that hereâ
Met an old teacher today and we got talking about âthe good old timesâ and ten minutes into the conversation I jokingly said the one regret I have from middle school is that I never won anything at her magnificent tombolas? Because, like, she used to hold this game about once a month so weâd learn the numbers in French and it was never big prizes, but as a 12-yo I desperately craved them - a cactus-shaped eraser, a bright blue notebook with slightly larger-than-usual squares, a set of coloured pens - and never ever got a single one of them.Â
(Actually spent a good few months thinking I was genetically unlucky and researching ancient family curses with my grandma.)Â
So today I donât know what I was hoping for - nothing, really?
(I mean, that part of me thatâs still twelve was probably expecting this sweet old woman to have a set of glitter stickers in her purse and just go âYou know what, youâre right - Iâve been saving this one for you all these years, here you goâ but Iâm a solidly rational person and I know thatâs stupid.)
No, I thought weâd just laugh and it would be a good shared memory and that would be it. Instead, my teacher got flustered and a bit embarrassed and explained the game was rigged. It was never about learning French at all. Sheâd just noticed some kids couldnât afford even basic stationery, so sheâd buy a few half-fancy items every month with her own money just for them. She didnât want them to feel different or left out. And obviously the way she used to walk around in the classroom, looking over our shoulders - it wasnât to prevent cheating. It was because she was cheating herself, wanting to see which number a particular child needed to get a Minnie Mouse pencil case.
Guys - the world is fucked up, but so many people out there are just good and kind and humbly heroic it honestly gives me hope.Â
Itâll be alright, youâll see.
ok but imagine a roomba thatâs programmed to react positively when being scratched or pettedÂ
#or a roomba thatâs programmed to recognize their owner and drive up to them for no other reason than to be petted
roomba company, please make this happen
I have a Neato Botvac that has an optical sensor to find its way around (Roombas just bump into things and derps off in a random direction) and yesterday it did its âdee-dummmâ sad noise while under the couch, stopped what it was doing, and hummed over to me and stopped beside my chair, with its error message saying, âPlease dust me off so I can see.â I wiped it off and sent it on its way, and it did its âdoo doo do doooo!â of happiness and finished the living room. Itâs never done that before, but I like to think that Iâve gained its trust over the past few months, and it knows it can come to me for help.
