Meet My Tavs/Durges
& How I Play the Origins
Starting here, I will post information about a finished save and who I played. Info about who I played, how I played them, some of their story, and some decisions that were made in their save that shaped their story and the ones around them! this is also just an excuse for me to talk about my tavs/durges shhh
I also wanted to include how I play the origins since that is fun, too!
Meet them below !!
Autin !
He / Him - Bisexual Trans Man
The Great Old One Warlock - Seldarine Drow - Tav
Autin was my first ever completed bg3 save! My man missed the entirety of the Underdark (ironic) because I didn't know you could do Both the Underdark and the Mountain Pass.... oops. He also made Gale run away from the party..... No I did not like Gale at the time, not my proudest moment, but I make it up to Gale in the future obviously.
At the time, I didn't know being in explorer mode didn't grant multiclassing so he was full warlock the entire save, but just know he's also a rogue in my mind. Both before and After the brain, he was a rogue.
Autin was a charlatan in a kingdom in the Underdark. Countless times he had been told he looked very similar to the prince, to be king. one day he took that to heart, he wanted to be king, he wanted to be Prince Coren. Coincidentally he sought the Great Old One to grant him powers Because being an assassin rogue didn’t grant him any very easily. Days before the coronation, days before he planned to assassinate Prince Coren and take his place, he was taken by the illithids.
Autin was very morally grey, but did lean ever so slightly good.
He romanced Astarion, which was me actually getting to know Astarion for the first time and actually appreciating his story. I cried, many many times. Autin and Astarion's story don't seem similar in ways, other than both of their "brief" lusts for power when opportunities presented themselves. Though Autin had succumbed to that power, now under a contract with a patron, he convinced Astarion to reject ascension.
Both him and Astarion traveled into the Underdark, Autin's old hunting grounds, where the vampires they released now use it as Actual hunting ground. During their struggle to corral the spawn, they meet a Drow Prince, Prince Coren..... (You'll meet him later in this post hehe)
His best friend in the party, besides Astarion, was Shadowheart. Autin being a Trans Man, and Shadowheart being the observant cleric that she is, she found out first. Noticing Autin improperly binding while on the battle field had immediately concerned her. She had explained to him that he's not the first trans person she's come in contact with, and knows this isn't safe. He wasn't sure what to make of it. But he listened. He soon started to lower his walls around her, talking more, a little gossip here and there. And like that, they were best friends.
His dream guardian was his mother, who used to be present in his life, but they had drifted once he had started his life in the shadows of kingdoms and cities.
Dorian !
He / Him - Bisexual
Oathbreaker Paladin - Mephistopheles Tiefling - Resisted Dark Urge
Oh my son my boy my sweet baby boy Dorian UGHGHGHGHHGHGHHHHHHH. Kill everyone else in this post and leave Dorian and I'll be happy. Dorian was my second finished bg3 save and my first Durge save. Oh my god. I get the durge hype, I get it now. I think this save really cemented bg3 into my brain, its been 6 months and I have no put this game down since.
The story of The Dark Urge itself is so good, its so.. I DONT EVEN HAVE WORDS. But being able to add our own stories to it makes it so fun.
He doesn't know any of this, and for now, he never will vvvvvvv
Dorian is half human, half mephistopheles tiefling. Don't let his red-ish appearance deceive you in that fact, the red tint is from being a Bhaalspawn. Before he swore an oath of devotion to Tiamat, to gain trust of mephistopheles tieflings in order to steal the Crown of Karsus alongside Gortash, he was merely a pale human. Unknowingly a Bhaalspawn for most of his life, as his mother hide him from the cult of Bhaal, almost as soon as he tried to live his life outside of his mother, the urge took over. Still remaining human during his rise of power in the discovered cult of Bhaal, he garnered the attention of Gortash, making him a part of his plans for the Absolute. When he swore his oath of devotion to Tiamat for the sake of the Crown of Karsus, he knew he was meant to break it and he knew there would be consequences.
Dorian would become partially blind. He would become half tiefling, gaining a set of horns that would cover half of his face. His body covered in bumps and ridges, a long tail out his backside. His sight, not horribly impacted, but would be limited. He can see as if a piece of translucent glass was placed in front of his eyes, but can see very clearly what is within 5ft of him. Call it a blessing? From what god, who even knows.
Insert canon durge backstory stuff leading up to the game kaboom tadpoles.
Dorian was terrified of the Urge. He felt unsafe around others, so sure he would kill them all, just like he killed Alfira. He tried to harness the Urge into their foes, but it never went away, it was never satisfied. He tried ignoring it completely, he almost killed Gale. He didn't think he deserved such friends as he did when they found out about his problem. They stayed. Why would they? Don't they know they are unsafe, being around him? But they stayed, until the Urge was gone. Until his Father killed him and Withers revived him.
Dorian fell for that damn wizard. He was gentle with him. Kept his thoughts from straying to the Urge time and time again, whether that be from his constant yapping (love you gale) for from merely watching him, or rather his vague silhouette, calmly exist around camp. Gale always seemed to make him forget about all that was wrong, it was quiet, and peaceful, around him. Dorian, being selectively partially non-verbal, found it easy to fall into the roles of listener and talker with Gale. Gale noticed early on that Dorian always seemed to relax while Gale was talking to him. Being the light guiding him out of that darkness.
On one particular night, Dorian woke up from a nightmare, scratch marks all down his arms, blood under his nails, he ran into Gale's tent, finding him still awake, reading. Gale immediately forgot the book, inviting Dorian to lay down with him. Dorian immediately fell into Gale's arms and cried himself to sleep, with no nightmares that night. Gale hesitated to ask if he wanted to talk about it, but knew he wouldn't, so he just continued to sooth him in his arms, reassuring him and comforting him.
Things continued to get worse for Dorian and Gale. Mystra and her sticky little fingers grabbing at Gale again, the Urge wanting him to kill an innocent cleric, then wanting to kill Gale, just after they had truly found each other. Gale always reassuring him that under the Urge, Dorian himself is still there. Dorian always reassuring Gale that he owes Mystra nothing, telling him that he is enough, that he wants Gale Dekarios, not Archmage Chosen of Mystra Gale of Waterdeep. And they persisted. They survived. Free from the Urge. Free from Mystra and the Orb. They were themselves. Dorian, unknowing of his last name (if he even had one), took Gale's last name when they got married. Dekarios, it's one of his favorite things to say, one of Gale's favorite to hear. He started talking more after the tadpoles, feeling more comfortable in his own skin, more comfortable with who he was with. Gale cherishes every word still, like he would before, so proud of how far Dorian has come. Oh and Dorian and Tara are absolute menaces together, at Gale's detriment.
And just like Autin, Dorian's closest friend in the party, besides Gale, was Shadowheart. Dorian first came to her in the early days of their adventure convinced he was cursed. He tried not to disclose much about what he thought was wrong with him, just telling her that he felt wrong and angry. She said she wasn't able to remove any curses at the moment, but would keep an eye on him at all times until she learnt how to. They never got the chance to, as he learnt his nature before she could learn the spell. But there was always still that connection there, of the trust he put in her at the start, and her vowing to keep watch of him and keep it to herself. Nearing the end of their adventure, his nature evident but under control, he started to think about his life before. His life before the tadpoles, before the Urge. They were faced with the decision of Shadowheart's parents. Well, she was faced with this decision. While she met with her parents for the first and last time, he realized he didn't know his own parents.
His dream guardian is his mother, well, the vague memory of his mother. He barely remembers who or what she looks like.
Coren !
They / He - Bisexual Somewhere in the Non-Binary Trans Man area idk
The Great Old One Warlock - Seldarine Drow - Tav
Coren was my first tav on a co-op save with my friends!! They fell into the role of little prince once again as they were surrounded by a Paladin and a Cleric Druid
i have stuff written somewhere else about why his kingdom is ruled by men despite it being the underdark but i dont feel like putting it all in here so just go with it ok thank you
Coren was the next prince in line for the throne in an Underdark kingdom (unnamed atm). The kings weren't chosen through bloodline, more so chosen by the current king, it just so happens that his dads best friend was the king. The king was aware of Coren's existence and how he was told to have the gift of shadow magic that is rare in the Underdark, though he hadn't yet shown a single sign of that magic. Getting closer to the time of being chosen for king, there were still no signs showing, so he improvised. He sought a patron to grant him powers, the Great Old One. Days before his coronation, he was taken by the illithids.
Their dynamic with Evanora, the Paladin, and Lucille, the Cleric Druid, was essentially the little guy they drag around to do all the talking. Though Evanora was fully capable of holding her own conversations, Coren always found himself at the head of them.
Coren's relationship with romance is a rocky one. Being so busy with royalty and the kingdom for most of his years, he has always had trouble holding relationships. Whether he's afraid of commitment, he doesn't have the time, or no one wants to put up with him. This carried into his time with the party.
He took interest in Shadowheart the night after the tiefling party. Silently devoting himself to her, proved to be for nothing. She was too wrapped up in her faith and how confusing it was to be pulled between two different faiths and godesses. He stayed with her though, just being there with her as she navigated her whole world being rocked. They both agreed they needed time to think after the battle with Ketheric Thorm, and they kept their distance since then.
After seperating from Shadowheart, they didn't know what to do. They didn't seem to be close to anyone else in the camp besides Evanora and Lucille. They were yearning, but for what, they didn't know...... Then came the bear... LMFAOO just kidding, they did Not fuck the bear. Halsin took particular interest in Coren near the end of their adventure. They were swept off their feet, literally too. They never got over how ridiculous their height difference was. Being with Halsin was different. They weren't even "with" Halsin, really. Halsin was with them, but he vowed to never let him keep them from exploring. To keep them from other potential partners. That was odd to Coren. It felt unfair, to Halsin, to hold him down while they went off somewhere else without him. They never did, one, because there were No opportunities to, and two, it felt wrong. They spent the rest of their adventure together, yet in the end, they had to separate. Halsin had duties back in the land that surrounded Moonrise Towers, and Coren had a kingdom to go back to and eventually rule one day.
Coren would look back at their time with Halsin fondly, always hoping one day he would stumble back into their life and they can forget they ever seperated, where they can rekindle that spark that was there, and fall in love like they were supposed to, not surrounded by other duties and tadpoles. But they knew it wouldn't happen. they tried to distract themselves in their work, things getting exciting with a particular case of vampires terrorizing the outskirts of their kingdom. There were a few people they took slight romantic interest in, but never acting on it, it never felt Right. Time goes by, as it does, until one day, a supposed surface dweller comes knocking on the kingdoms doors, looking for Prince Coren. A letter in his dirt stained hands, inviting them to a reunion.
Coren's best friends were Evanora and Lucille. Despite the eye rolling and teasing that comes with being an annoying little prince, they all enjoyed their time together. The devastation that wrung through them all when they realized they would all have to separate at the end of their adventure was horrible. At first, it was just Evanora and Wyll agreeing to go back to Avernus together, so Wyll could continue to be the Blade with Evanora by his side. But in the end, they all knew Karlach would have to go back to Avernus too, which in turn, included Lucille. Coren was happy that they would all be there for each other. He had considered going with him, forgetting the Underdark entirely, just to be with them. But he knew he couldn't, he was too important back home. They would be fine without him. So when Halsin came in with the invitation for the reunion, Withers stating he had found a way to allow Karlach time outside of the Hells, Coren was ecstatic.
Coren's dream guardian was his dad, always there for him.
reposting for more !! hit the picture limit lol
Part 2
Skye !
She / Her - Bisexual? Trans Woman
Way of the Open Hand Monk - High Elf - Tav
My sweet Skye omg. I had a vague concept going into this save, as I promise my friend I would romance Wyll for them. We have this running bit going where Wyll can only be romanced by someone taller than him so I knew i had to go with body type 3 or 4 and after playing with only masc characters so far, I wanted a pretty fem tav so bad. Thus Skye was born.
Skye grew up as a performer on the streets of Baldur's Gate. Performer her talents in the Way of the Open Hand, but she had rarely ever needed those skills to survive. Thankfully, she kept up her training, as she was picked up on the Nautiloid.
Keeping her transness a secret from the camp proved to be hard, paranoia and dysphoria sinking in any time someone got too close or even looked her direction for too long. She would often times hide away in her tent, away from the observing eyes of her peers. But a certain set of eyes never made her feel insecure. Karlach. Though her eyes were knowing, they were never accusing.
One particular night, Karlach couldn't keep her eyes of Skye, which then set Skye off, sending her back into her tent after an excuse of being exhausted from the days adventuring. Minutes later, Karlach was outside her tent, asking to be let in. She let her in, bracing for what was to come from the tiefling's mouth. "Look soldier..." Skye brisled at the statement to come, "if they don't care that I have a wang, they aren't going to care if you do." Skye's mouth drops open.... "Karlach!" "Whatttt, look they don't know about you, but they know about me, I only know about you because I can see myself in you." Skye didn't know what to say, in shock, that Karlach knew, that she didn't know about Karlach. "If anything happens, I have your back. If you want anyone to be there if you do want to tell anyone, I'll be there, just say the word...... But don't be surprised when Shads figures it out, she's getting closer." Skye just stared at her, speechless, at the connection she just formed, the calmness between the truth, and the generosity Karlach had just given her.
"And please for the love of gods, kiss Wyll." She leaves the tent with that.
To me, Wyll seems like the gentlest man ever, exactly what someone like Skye needed. Skye, her whole life, had only known hard hits and hitting the right pressure points when necessary. Being so caught up with life, she never had time for romance, or even the fleeting pleasures of the flesh, thanks to her own insecurities. Then here comes Wyll, insistent on courting her the Right away, treating her with the best. Taking things slow, knowing she wasn't used to it, and knowing she needed to figure things out for herself as well. She eventually told him about her being trans, he was supportive, and only reassured her that he still wanted to be there with her, despite being different than what he was expecting. He taught her gentle, intimate touches that never led to anything, seeing her hesitation to continue. He respected her boundaries despite them never being verbally set. He knew how hard it can be for someone like her, regardless of how much he told her he loved her for who she was. He knew it wasn't his fault, that it was something she would have to overcome herself, but he promised to be there every step of the way, just like she said she would be with his pact with Mizora. They were there for each other, in all things during their adventure. When Wyll eventually drummed up the courage to tell her he wanted to become the Blade of Avernus, she agreed to join him with no hesitation. She no longer desired to return to her life on the streets of Baldur's Gate, if you could even call that a life. She wanted to still be there with Wyll, even after his pact with Mizora was dissolved, he will continue to be there for her, so she will continue to be there for him.
we are going to ignore that i had gale blow up the netherbrain in this save........... we don't talk about it...... ok
As they celebrated their victory and loss of destroying the Netherbrain, saving Baldur's Gate and the world, Skye watched her best friend rise in flames. That was it, they won, yet she was still going to have to watch her best friend die right in front of her. She knew she didn't want to go back to Avernus, she vowed to never go back. She even said she would rather become a mindflayer than go back. They couldn't let her do that. Skye and Wyll together desperately begged Karlach to come to Avernus with them. She wouldn't be alone, her two best friends there with her until they could figure out how to fix her engine for good. She agreed. They said their goodbyes to their friends, and escaped to Avernus before Karlach could blow. Now in Avernus with her fiancé and her best friend, Skye was ready for the new life that was ahead of her.
Skye's dream guardian was her childhood best friend who she had lost contact with a long long time ago, never knew where they ended up.
Vale !
They / Them / She - Non-Binary Lesbian
Battle Master Fighter - Mephistopheles Tiefling - Embraced Dark Urge
Let's take a dark turn, shall we....
Vale was my first taste of an evil run. Now, I didn't Hate it, I would do it again, just making some exceptions to which evil decisions I make.
I had always wondered what would happen if you made certain decisions and how it effected later game, and now that I have my answer, I do agree with some peoples argument that it's slightly too punishing. I missed Wyll and Karlach the entire time, didn't have access to several traders for majority of act 2, and felt very under powered in act 3. Was it fun? Yes.
Vale has very many parallels with my Resist Dark Urge Dorian. They exist in parallel universes. Vale making a similar deal with a Mephistopheles Tiefling in order to get the Crown of Karsus for the Absolute. Though unlike Dorian resisting the Urge, Vale embraced it. Yet, they were always scared of the Urge. Scared of what it was capable of making them do, against their will. They thought, to control it, they should embrace it. So they did.
Their first extreme act was the attack on the grove, driven by their need for bloodlust and curiosity of the Goblin Leader Minthara. Vale did not want to deal with saving their kin, and their noisy children, so they opted to let them be slaughtered instead, aiding in that battle. This cost them an ally, the bleeding heart Wyll. Vale knew he wouldn't have lasted long with them anyway, so it was a loss they didn't worry about. Though earning some rather distasteful opinions on their actions against the grove from their party, some had fun. Especially the drow Minthara who had started a party at their camp that night. In the excitement of the day, Vale found themselves in a night of passion with the drow, though they woke up to a dagger at their throat. After talking it through, Minthara promised to find them again, but they needed to attend to her duty to the Absolute.
After learning more about their peers intentions and lives, they seemed it was only fair to encourage them on their paths. As they felt since they were indulging in their dark side, why can't the others do the same. Shadowheart was already open about her faith with the Lady of Loss, explaining her desire to become a Dark Justiciar. Astarion learning of his destiny to be sacrificed in the Rite of Ascension, explaining he wanted to take the Ritual and gain the power for himself. Yet when Gale expressed his want for ambition and his rocky past with the Goddess of Magic, all Vale could do was dangle the idea of the Crown in front of his face while they took it for themselves, dominating the brain in their Father's name. Teasing Gale was easy, he was a push over. Vale wasn't even sure why he stuck with them the entire time, maybe it was that ambition, thinking that one day he could have bested them.
Minthara was found later in their adventure, sentenced to a mind erased, Vale wouldn't allow that. Curiosity still riding on high, she dragged Minthara out of Moonrise Towers, away from guards so they wouldn't get caught. Once far enough, the Astral Prism took over her senses, shielding her from the Absolute. She knew everything, and immediately trusted this questionable group of "vagabonds and strays". The drows nature was still the same, though her vengeance now aimed at the Absolute. Vale wanted to be there, to help her get that vengeance. Vale wasn't sure what this feeling was, because she couldn't remember what it was like to be in love. As they grew closer, Minthara started to open up about what had happened to her and how she become the victim of the Cult of the Absolute. While Vale did love her, she didn't know it, and it was starting to be drowned out by the overwhelming sense of pity, for the drow. She had been through so much, both before the Absolute, and while under Her influence. Her relationship with Orin is what scared Vale the most. Though Vale was nothing like her "sister", she knew she was meant to take the same bloody path that Orin was taking, and planned to finish it herself. She wasn't sure how Minthara would take that, as she was still haunted by Orin, even in her death. She expressed that she wanted to be by Vale's side as she dominated the brain in her Father's name, but she could hear the fear in the back of her tone, she was scared of Vale. In the end, Vale resisted one last urge, the urge to end Minthara's life at the very beginning of her carnage as the Absolute. Vale didn't look for her, she didn't want to find her, hoping that she, by some grace, wasn't the death of her.
Vale's dream guardian was Dorian, my Resisted Dark Urge. An "altered" version of him, that promised power in the tadpoles, Vale gladly taking whatever power they could get their hands on. He subtly tried to encourage them to resist the Urge, but failed.
Current Saves At the Moment
Astelle !
She / Her - Sapphic
Oath of the Crown (Now Oathbreaker) Paladin - Githyanki - Resisted Dark Urge
We ignore that I stole her name from Nine-Fingers Keene.
Astelle is my durge for me and my friends current second co-op save! I wanted to show them the Dark Urge story, especially the Resist side so thus she was born. I've wanted to try out playing as a Githyanki for awhile and I thought it would be interesting in a group setting,,,, they just make fun of my stance when I stand around.
Astelle was a Paladin of Vlaakith, swore an oath of the crown in her name. After being captured onto the Nautiloid and quickly thrown into a group with another Githyanki, she thought she would be greatful to have another kin amongst their numbers, but she was mistaken. Though similar, that's where they clash. Her relationship with Lae'zel was tainted by her behavior towards the rest of the party, because when she listened to her rude and demanding remarks, she saw herself. She silently vowed to herself that she would try to better herself. And she did, she learnt more things about her kin, more things about her "queen" and eventually broke her oath after being betrayed by Vlaakith herself, choosing to silently follow in the teachings of Lathander, as it was the first god she came in contact with after seperating from Vlaakith. She needed something to cling to, to follow, if she were to stay motivated and of sound mind. She saw how easy it was for her own attitude to be improved, so she attempts now to improve Lae'zel's.
Being so caught up in her own affairs, she hasn't quite yet bonded with her other party members, besides Shadowheart. In her effect to better herself and Lae'zel, she wanted to apologize to Shadowheart for Lae'zel's hostility over the artifact, the old Githyanki relic. She understands that it is what protects us, even after attempting to assassinate the "blight" as her queen demanded her to. Shadowheart, despite having a distaste for Githyankis at first, started opening up to Astelle. They talked over shared wine one night, Shadowheart expressing that her distrust for Lae'zel was wrong, and apologized if it had offended Astelle. Astelle forgave her, saying it was hard times, everyone was stressed about the danger of becoming ghaik. By the end of the night, Astelle was drunk for the first time, Shadowheart not far behind, but it felt right. They kissed, and woke up the next day not regretting it. They grew closer as the weeks went on. Once they got into the Shadow-Cursed Lands, Shadowheart felt.. different. Like she was distanced, far away, while being right there next to her. Something to do with her Lady of Loss, Astelle gave her space to figure it out, but still staying by her side if she needed.
This is where we have left off !! will update as we play some more !!!!
Astelle's dream guardian is "herself". Herself if she were to embrace the Urge, she tries to get her to embrace it, but she keeps resisting. Suspiciously, a Githyanki telling her to use the tadpoles powers. Now Vlaakith being a tyrant was a surprised, but this, this is not right.
Origin Gale !
Bisexual headcanon
wow count the amount of times someone is bisexual in this post,,,,,,,,,, damn im bisexual thats crazy
Oh my sweet baby boy Gale Dekarios. When I first started playing bg3, I had always thought that if I were to play an origin character, it would be either Astarion or Shadowheart. But boy, ever since romancing him as Dorian, I couldn't get enough of his character. I needed to know MORE. MORE!!!!! And so far I'm really enjoying it! It's so fun to see his dialogue options and special scenes.
If you didn't already know, we are a system! And just so happen to have split a Lot of bg3 introjects as we are autistic and are kind of going through a lot right now, so that increases chances of splits lol. Where I'm going with this is that, having an outlet for Gale /sys to be himself has been so nice, being able to roleplay as himself is really fun.
...... I may have also gotten slightly addicted to Bloodweave before deciding to do a Gale origin run, so that kind of cemented the idea in my brain to do one..... so I could do some Bloodweave shenanigans. Which I am loving.
Obviously with this being an Origin run, I am not changing much about the set story. With Gale, I plan on making him begrudgingly accept Mystra's mission in act 2, agreeing with his companions that she can just ask him to use the orb and rid himself of this plane, especially after how she had treated him. But he accepts it either way, still wanting her forgiveness in the end. The only thing keeping him from fully committing to her mission is Astarion.
When Astarion opened up to Gale about his past, about Cazador, he swore to stand by Astarion's side and kill Cazador. To free him at last.
To fufill Mystra's mission would be breaking that promise. Astarion was furious with Gale when he accepted the mission from his Goddess, saying she has no right, saying he was stupid for accepting, and ghosted him for a good few nights. During that time, Gale wallowed in it. Going back and forth on whether he were to listen to Mystra and use the orb when they see the Absolute, or would he stay, for his friends, for Astarion. Days went by, they made their way into Moonrise Towers while Astarion continued to ignore Gale. But when they met that vile drow and Gale stood up for Astarion, Astarion came to him. He confessed to seducing him, using him for protection against Cazador, but also confessed to failing to keep that wall up, and falling for Gale. Gale confessed that he didn't actually want to go through with Mystra's mission. That he wanted to live, he did not want to die. He vowed to live, for Astarion, for his friends, that they would find another way to rid the Absolute of this world.
Gale was able to convince Shadowheart to spare the Nightsong, with his newfound confidence against their gods that seem to stick their grubby little hands in their actions. He saw himself in her, and her in him.
At the moment, besides Astarion, Gale is closest to Wyll. Them both being the bleeding hearts of the group, they seem to agree on most things. He has helped him through his pact troubles so far, and Wyll gave advice in dealing with his decision with the mission from Mystra. Knowing they just want what's best for each other.
This is where I left off !! will update as I play some more !!!!
Gale's dream guardian is none other than DORIANNNNNN. How could I not. Unlike Vale's version of Dorian, Gale's Dorian is the Dorian he fell for. The caged, hair down, quiet and scared Dorian from Act 1.
