I would much rather be represented by drag queens, leather daddies and pups than by petulant cowards afraid of their own reflection. You are talking about people who never had the option of being seen as "normal people who just happen to be gay" and channeled their pain into self expression, community and art. And who are you? You define yourself not in terms of who you are and what you create but in terms of who you are not and what you lack. These people you hate only seem larger than life because your life is too small and insignificant to fit them.

Also young queers are also kinky and larger than life and ridiculous sometimes. It’s not like there is a generational line that divides the pup hoods from the “I am just like you” people. That conflict has been going on for longer than young queers have been alive. And a lot of the perception that younger queers aren’t as freaky stems from society developing in a way that treats repression and assimilation with conditional acceptance a lot more than it has in the past. Young queers have the option to hide halfway and be halfway open where older queers largely could only hide fully or be fully open and freaky. And the ones who were open are the ones you meet at pride today. Young queers not only should get to be exposed to this at pride, even if it may be uncomfortable, they also have a right to be exposed to it and see that this is something we can do and that queer people have been doing before us. To take it away would be to signal young queers that assimilation is the only hope for freedom we have. And that is cruel.

The way the world has treated me has made me desire very deeply to be a terrifying entity, and that IS actually inextricably connected to my queerness as my queerness has caused my body to be othered, and my body is constantly misinterpreted.
