Veganism is cool but there’s a sense of ableism, classism, and racism that kinda comes off of some vegans and it’s gross.

One of you wanted me to elaborate on this and I’m gonna try and be quick and concise.

Some people physically cannot survive off of a plant-based diet. Congratulations if you are not one of them, but don’t go shouting at people. You are essentially guilt-tripping them into dropping nutrients/vitamins they need, that come from animal products.

Not everyone can afford the vegan lifestyle, let alone support a family on it. You would need the advice and close attention of health care professionals to raise a child on a vegan diet. Let’s also talk about the, underpaid, PoC who are farming your plant-based diet. Why do you advocate for animals and not bat an eye at injustices faced by people of colour?

Food and culture go hand in hand and a lot of you WHITE vegans think it’s so damn easy for people to leave meat. I’m lactose intolerant and I don’t eat red meat at all so it’s pretty difficult going to family parties and not being able to eat what is there. You can’t look at cultural dishes and say “why the fuck are you eating a dead animal” that’s very ethnocentric and bigoted of you. Let PoC eat their cultural dishes.

I respect your lifestyle, but don’t be so god damn condescending and forceful with your ‘movement’.

If You Don't Read Anything Else Today, Read This Please

Someone who I have known for a very long time, and had the pleasure of calling a friend took his own life today.

I reacted with shock, disbelief, and then I began to think back on all the years gone by and I realised that behind his mask of happiness was a void of darkness and a world of pain that none of us could see because he hid it so well.

We often meet people in our lives who seem to be the life and soul of the party, who are always smiling, and who always have a kind word or a shoulder to offer to people in need. But we forget that those people also have troubles, they have worries and they have problems. We ourselves perceive them to be so strong that we brush off their concerns as nothing telling them not to be silly. We don’t mean to belittle their problems, we just see them as happy and outgoing so it doesn’t occur to us that the problems we see as tiny are actually overwhelming to them. We don’t hear their cry for help, not because we aren’t listening to them, but because we see them as indestructible.

I am writing this in the hope that someone will see it and realise that their happy go lucky friend has not been so happy go lucky lately and that they will offer them a friendly ear and in doing so save a life.

Nobody should feel so alone that they choose to end their lives.

Everyone has someone who loves them. So please, show them.

Never miss an opportunity to tell someone how much they mean to you. You might not get another one.

I’m bringing this back because it is important, and after a long time of not checking my messages on tumblr I just had someone remind me of this. My life has once again been impacted by this topic with a dear family member. I do not ask for sympathy or to talk about it, I simply ask you all to go out and be proactive in this fight. You never know who’s life you will save with a simple smile and a warm greeting.
