happy belated birthday blue rat

the problem with fantasyposting on here is the amount of people who try to "um actually" you on the basis that your post doesn't comply with the rules/mechanics/worldbuilding of dungeons and dragons
Seriously? Even if you're not specifically posting about Dungeons & Dragons?
I haven’t seen this on Tumblr so much recently, but people do do this. The classic example is defining dragon and wyvern as strict categories based on number of limbs.
A lot of people got all their fantasy tropes from D&D and D&D inspired media and don’t realize like… just about every mythical creature in the Monster Manual is just one realization out of centuries or millennia of diverse stories where the same name applies to radically different things.
Or that the wizard/sorcerer/warlock thing exists solely in D&D class design (and only in more recent editions — warlock is 4e and I think dividing wizard and sorcerer was 3e)… and none of it really relates to real world magical traditions.
Warlocks were also 3e, iirc; they just weren't in the core rules and were introduced in a sourcebook or something. I don't remember which one specifically. Or if not warlocks, then some sort of proto-warlock that the later class was clearly based on.
Sorcerers were definitely 3e, in any case. And yeah, all of that is D&D-specific and has nothing to do with anything else.
I don’t have my 3e books handy, but I believe one of the origins for a sorcerer was getting your powers from some powerful being - so the idea of the warlock was sort of in there. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was an early warlock in some supplement, though. I only ever had the core books.
Well hey, I'd like to jump in on this if you don't mind.
Warlocks were introduced into 3.5 in the book Complete Arcane. All of the Complete books introduced a few base classes in their specific variety of character so if you're thinking of a 3.5 base class that's kinda like one of the core classes but a little different, it's probably from Complete Something. They're actually pretty close to their 5e version and I feel like their eldritch blast was the framework for how offensive cantrips in 5e were designed. The main difference is that the 3.5 warlock only uses Invocations and cannot cast proper spells, whereas the 5e warlock does cast spells and uses Invocations as an additional customization. The main reason I know this so deeply is because my old GM's big brother was kind of a power-gamer type and he frequently played the warlock due to eldritch blast and Invocations basically giving him a frequent source of powers and abilities that never actively ran out so he could always be the star of the show. So I've got a small brain poison that leaves me sour on them but they're still pretty cool even if the art for the "default" warlock in the book looks like a total dweeb.
Pictured: A total dweeb who insists he's very cool.
Anyway, that aside, yes, the difference between a wizard, sorcerer, and a warlock when it comes to generic fantasyposting is really more based on a vibe than anything else rather than any sort of specific mechanics like DnD puts on them in order to justify why you're buying another book for a new class when you already have a perfectly iconic set of classes in the base book. 3.5 was awful about that. Fantasyposting is fun because it hits upon iconic imagery and narratives that we're all familiar with and being pedantic about what class abilities you should actually have based on what synonym for "magic person" you happened to say is peak Internet pedantry that grates on my nerves to no end.

@wires-walter-the-automaton W HY DO I IMAGINE ACE MAKIGN THIS WHILE DRUNk
Because this is definitely something he would do! He would probably make it for Peter. Also, is that cheese?
i first thought it was butter fsr lmao ace would be on his knees begging peter to eat it, crying and all but peter keeps denying then gene comes in to save peter’s life by agreeing to eat it for him (because there’s no doubt in mind he wouldn’t) and luckily ace couldn’t hear them discussing the plan over his own sobbing ace then looks up and notices it gone, peter then shyly exclaiming “yeah it… actually was really good, i’m sorry ace” and ace is sO HAPPY he gets up to hug peter and peter hugs back, feeling bad for lying to his sweet spaceman but it was kind of worth it at least gene got his midnight snack bc it’s literally 2 in the morning

Exit the Dragon is a hypothetical 3D Brawler action game about the titular dragon girl Exit. These prequel comics are set in time period bef
As requested, I've uploaded all the "Exit the Dragon" short comics in a neat, chronological order to Webtoon. Great introductory for new followers as well to the dragon girls of mine.
i have a friend in his 50s who doesn't give a fuck about pokemon so we showed him random ones and the way he responded to them made me feel like i was doing flashcards with a very serious baby
no. he doesn't use emojis. i'm not kidding when i say i have seen him use one once in two years. everyone was shocked.
God, I love this very serious and terse attitude. This guy seems great. If he were in a novel or something he'd probably be my favorite character.

Character sketches of 999 I did some time ago. The game was first in its genre which made me go "wow these Visual Novels can get quite intense!" and the character sprites with varying poses are great.
