Rosewood Readathon Day 12!!

Chapter 34

- Why are there fireworks going off before midnight you’re supposed to save them for when it’s the new year

- Raphael is actually so dumb for trying to scare them oh my god hahaha

- Lottie is just like me fr “But it’s off limits!” I would have turned around and left rightttt away I’m such a rule follower it’s sad. Lottie the autism is strong.

- Saskia is actually a terrible head of house if she’s letting everyone break the one rule. Foreshadowing that she’s not to be trusted??

- Was there ever a reason given as to why it was off limits?

- Ellie being super selfish again because she KNOWS that her being at the party means Lottie and Jamie have to be there too even though they obviously don’t want to be. This reread is actually making me so angry at Ellie

Chapter 35

- Jamie is lowkey stupid for drinking Anastacia’s lemonade when he’s supposed to be suspicious of her

- Seriously how is Ani allowing all this flirting between Ellie and Saskia

- This chapter is so iconic though this is one of the big ones fr. Fueled all the jottie shippers back in the day

- Hamelin formula time!!!!

Chapter 36

- I don’t really ship Jamie and Lottie but their relationship is so important to me. Lottie dove into the pool for him and revived him even though she had no idea what she was doing. All of that for someone who she thinks doesn’t even like her but he actually cares SO MUCH I’m gonna cry

Chapter 37

- Punishment was way too light for everyone, Saskia should have definitely lost her title and I’m not just saying that because she’s the villain but she endangered everyone by allowing it to happen

- Professor Devine talks to both Lottie and Ellie about her disappointment but seriously Lottie had no choice since it’s suspicious if Jamie’s there without his “princess” so really it’s all Ellie’s fault. Why is this reread turning me into an Ellie hater

it makes me so sad that Lottie never actually comes home for Christmas and tells ollie about the "pickle" she's "got herself into"

I like to believe that Elie (at least partly) sees "Big puffy rats make Dora always scared" as a cheat is because they dont really use mnemonics in Maradova . like a fun wee cultural difference ! (it also shows Ellie's strict morals around cheating and integrity I think, linking to wolf like loyalty and a strict upbringing)

I always thought that binah giving lottie red riding hood was random but now I think she gave lottie that book to show them she knew Ellie was the princess. wolf in sheep's clothing, or wolfson in rosewood uniform ig

thank you to the rosewood chronicles for introducing me to the word antithesis, I'll forever be grateful that it was added to my 12 year old self's vocabulary

I would just like to say that my ex-gf did dye my hair while we listened to music in my bathroom so I yes I am cool and a devoted fan

im unsure why but the quote "both girls smiled at each other, each perhaps thinking they would change the other’s mind." has always stuck with me

lottie finding that Ellie thinks like her home in chapter nine is beautiful, truly together forever from the start I love them

pink disney princess nightgown and Star Wars two piece = the duality of women and sleepwear I would equally invest it (ive never watched a Star Wars film)

Ellie wanting to get a midnight feast for lottie is one of the cutest things ever

I like how the apple allergy comes back later as well as just being a fun little detail and a Snow White reference!

Ive thought for the longest time that it was saskia that spread the lottie princess rumour but ani wouldn't lie to lottie with that serious a look on her face imo. and I dont think Lola let it slip, truly. soo if you know how it spread do tell me (tho maybe they were just overheard on the terrace at lunch the day before?)

lottie’s first impression of Saskia really is so partisan core

Prof Devine’s speech saying that “One of you is likely to be the next ruler of a country, an Olympic gold medallist, a Nobel Peace Prize winner.” Is so much more meaningful when we know that Ellie (an extension of lottie, let’s be real) does temporarily / sort of rule Maradova, saskia becomes an Olympic boxer (I’m 95% sure on that), and Binah really does win a Nobel peace prize !!!

So real that Ellie is asleep when lottie gets back (me and my chronic fatigue core)

As much as missing out on that first rosewood breakfast makes me sad, I bet that plain toast was delicious, like plain toasted white bread sometimes really hits the spot, and at rosewood it would be like double as good i assume

Lottie is honestly so brave to crawl into a dark, unfamiliar, incredibly enclosed space where she can hear water rushing. I’d like to imagine I would too but omg it would be v dependant on the size of that tunnel

The Lottie being behind a mirror scene is one of my faves. I don’t really know why but I think it’s so fun (and in my delusional head when I play lottie in an adaption if the rosewood chronicles, I believe it would be super fun to film

Ellie’s first idea when lottie asks about doing something in return for Ellie’s maths tutoring being “ohh I can make her pretend to be me, that feels like an equal amount of work on either end” is f-cking hilarious

It’s low-key crazy that lottie was right that the gift came from one of them (ani), like as naive and bashful that girl is, her intuition is sometimes so gooooood

The “I was just ….. eating lunch” and wanting to kick yourself is one of the most relatable lines

Raphael is one of the goofiest guys in the entire series /lovingly

I know they only react so crazily to Lottie saying the food and clothes etc are all so fancy because they think she’s a princess, but like I feel like it low-key on a minor level shows how privileged the majority of rosewood students are

Ani turn your scowl on me, no reason (lottie is queer and so am I )

The gang thinking that lottie is a terrible liar is SO FUNNY! And idk if it’s my ocd but I always feel like I sound like I’m lying even when I’m not so that felt relatable for my inner demons hahahaha

RWCH Readathon 2024:

Undercover Princess - Chapter 2

Everything about this chapter is so nostalgic to me. I read this book at 14 years old, and hadn't been away from home for longer than a guide camp. Now looking back as someone who just graduated university, it stings a little bit. Everything about this chapter, from leaving your best friends behind (and for me my family), to go somewhere completely new and on your own, your entire being packed into some suitcases and boxes is terrifying.

But I think that this book, and this scene specifically made it easier for me to do so. It let me know at 14 that hey it'll be okay, you'll find your people, and I'm really happy I did. Shoutout to all my uni friends who follow my non-rwch tumblr ily all.

I'm sure there will be a whole rant about the mantra at the end so stay tuned for that. ANYWAY

Ollie's letter is so endearing and it really shows his personality in a really susinct way. his hurt at being left being played off as a joke, even though you can still kind of feel the tension and fear he has.

The p.s about them being given a crown on arrival reminds me instantly of Barbie Princess Charm School

I also adore that absolute direct call outs in this chapter of them going you can't just decide you wanna go to Rosewood. It really emphasises how out of her depth Lottie feels when she gets there.

The tiara story makes me cry so much, I love how it's introduced and it brings such comfort to her

Also the line about it being an heirloom and handed down with the legacy of Rosewood now looking back i'm genuinely surprised we hadn't picked up on it.

I love the whole story that tells us about the tiara and the mantra and I won't get fully into it today, but I'm not exaggerating when I say this mantra has changed my life.

While chapter 1 was a brilliant comparison of the two girls, this chapter is where we truly get to know Lottie and she her vulnerability for the first time properly. She cares deeply about everyone and everything.

My favourite part is when it says that the tiara has the power to help anyone who wears it achieve anything, just like in the opening paragraph to the series, again affirming that Lottie is that special kind of person.

Be kind, be brave, be unstoppable isn't just a powerful mantra because of the words, but who each gives her them. Bravery is given by her mother, kindness by kate, a girl who moments before picked on Lottie, but soon changed to be kind, and gave her the confidence to embrace the final word for herself. Unstoppable.
