âI got thisâ
During the concluding audience Q&A, a young woman stood up and asked Fonda and Tomlin for advice on how to combat the âmicro-aggressionsâ that one faces as a frustrated, fourth-wave feminist. Fonda took up the calm but compelling rallying cry that weâve come to expect from this peerless pioneer. âWe need to be surrounded as a movement,â she urged, telling the audience member to surround herself with feminist women and men who are interested in pursuing âcollective action,â as Tomlin nodded in firm agreement. The rarest of the rare! Photos of Susan Sontag and her girlfriend, Cuban-American playwright Maria Irene Fornes. If the dates on the back are accurate, Susan would have been around 28 years old.
These were taken by Morton âMortyâ Schleifer (Walter Kerellâs brother) and posted to LiveJournal by the user personalist in 2010.

Letâs not refer to them as innocent. What if he kills a prostitute next? Or a woman walking home drunk, late at night in a short skirt? Will they be in some way less innocent?
When I was 4,â McKinnon explained, âI asked my mom what a gay person was. She said, âA gay person is someone who loves people of their own gender, and also a lot of times gay people are very creative, like Michelangelo was gay.â I loved Michelangelo and so I thought, âWell, sâ, I want to be gay then.â I was very pleasantly surprised to find out that I was.

You guys, you guys. Did you know there was a marriage proposal after the womenâs final rugby matches? Olympics volunteer Marjorie Enya (in the yellow) proposed to her girlfriend Brazilian team rugby player Isadora Cerullo (in the green). And, youâd better believe, she said yes. Blame it on Rio, indeed.
YES GOD YES

"She has an ability to create diverse and distinct characters that are at once familiar, eccentric and oh so honest."
Lily Tomlin made history yesterday when it was announced that she would be the first openly gay performer to receive the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award.
Since its inception in 1962, the honor has been awarded to Hollywood legends such as Debbie Reynolds, Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn, Paul Newman, Julie Andrews, Sidney Poitier, Angela Lansbury and Carol Burnett.
SAG-AFTRA President Gabrielle Carteris says the 76-year-old Tomlin is the perfect choice to join this cast of luminaries because she is âan extraordinary actress, as equally adept at narrative drama as in comedy roles.â
âShe has an ability to create diverse and distinct characters that are at once familiar, eccentric and oh so honestâin a way that illuminates lifeâs hidden corners,â Carteris adds.
âFrom Edith Ann to Frankie, her characters are wholly unique, and by exposing every nuance of human behavior, they widen our scope of understanding.â
Tomlin, who married her longtime partner Jane Wagner in 2013 after 45 years together, will be presented with the award at the 2016 ceremony in January 2017.
