The next day after Kara’s reveal.
“Keerah.” The irritated voice of Cat Grant could be heard in the whole building.
Kara immediately rushed into her office. No super hearing needed to understand Cat was intrigued by something that she needed an answer right this second.
“Did you call for me, Ms Grant?” Kara said with grace like her boss wasn’t already on fire.
“Yes, Keerah, I’ve been calling you for hours. Where have you been?”
Kara tried to talk but was immediately interrupted.
“Nah, nah, nah. Now that I know the truth about you, I don’t really care where you’ve been. We have more pressing matters at hand. For example: Tell me, who is this?”
Cat showed her a picture of the whole gang facing Nyxly and Lex on her laptop screen. Her finger slowly traced over the man in the red suit next to Supergirl. Kara looked at her boss with a defeated look and sighed deeply.
The older woman realised there was more to the story and urged Kara to say whatever was on her mind.
“Well? Are you going to spill the details or do I have to force them out of you? But let me tell you something. Whoever made him that suit deserves all the awards. It’s tight in all the right places am I right?” Cat said with a smirk.
“Ms Grant.” Kara barely got out, immediately choking on air.
“Hmm, do tell Keerah.” Cat gave her a knowing look.
Kara’s blush made its appearance on her cheeks as memories of her and Mon-El flooded her mind. But Cat was right. That suit complemented him, made him even more irresistible than he really was. She was reminded of the times they trained together and the first time she saw him in that suit. It took her breath away. But that was something he always managed to do effortlessly.
Kara let out a heavy sigh as she remembered the last time she saw him. It was a few days ago and those words he told her were playing on repeat in her mind. “I don’t think I’ll ever be back in this lifetime.” It hurt. She had buried all those feelings she felt for him hoping that one day they would disappear entirely but now she knew better.
“I bet you my whole career that he is a tiger in bed.” Cat said bringing Kara back to reality.
Kara coughed loudly again in order to hide her embarrassment and whispered softly “You have no idea”.
“Oh well, well, look at that. My innocent little assistant had a piece of that. I’ve never been prouder.” Cat said surprised and eager to hear the whole story.
Kara took a seat as she realised that there was no escaping her boss this time. Yeah, she could fly out of the window fast enough for Cat not to notice but something inside her begged her to open up her heart to Cat and listen to whatever she had to say next.
Kara cleared her throat and began “Remember when I told you a few years ago that I’ve been in a relationship with someone and it didn’t work?”
Cat nodded as the memory came back.
“Well, that was him.” Kara continued and sighed deeply.
“Hmm.” Cat pondered for a second.
“He went to the future, became a hero, created a Legion of Superheroes and came back to help me defeat Nyxly and Lex.”
“But…? I smell a but coming here.” Cat noted.
“But he had to leave again. He told me he won’t come back to this lifetime ever again.”
“So, he basically turned you down?”
“No, no. He doesn’t know I feel like that. When he came back to the present the first time he was married and I had to watch him from afar being happy without me. It hurt liked hell at the beginning but then I got used to it. After that, he had a fight with his wife and came back again to help me fight Reign. We succeeded and he confessed to me that he still loved me. We were both ready to try again when a crisis in the future made him go back.”
Cat nodded in understanding. “Is he still married now?”
“I didn’t ask him but Winn said that he is basically married to his work now so…”
“Well, no wonder he is the right man for you. Seriously you deserve each other.” Cat said a bit sarcastically.
Kara stood up and went close to the window. The right man for her huh. He really existed and perhaps was waiting for her.
“I don’t blame him to be honest. I am the one that trained him. I told him time and time again that we protect the people above all else and he has done a much better job at that than me.” She let a heavy sigh. “I just wish…” She barely got out but stopped right there before saying anything else she might regret.
“Wish what? That he wasn’t so selfless? That you didn’t have to burden yourselves with all this responsibility? That you maybe had a chance to start over and live a happy life together?” Cat completed her thoughts with her questions.
Kara turned around and looked at her boss. “Yes, to all of them.” she said in all honesty.
“Then what are you doing here?” Cat asked like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
“What do you mean, Ms Grant?” Kara asked.
“You know exactly what I mean Keerah. For six years you’ve dedicated your life to make everyone happy but never not once thought that you deserve that happiness too. Supergirl has taught everyone to fight and stand up for themselves and now the people are accomplishing great things. We thank you for your service but we no longer need you. But as you have already told me there is someone out there that still does.”
“You don’t know that.” Kara said interrupting her.
“I have eyes Keerah. I’ve seen the videos and the way he was looking at you. That is not a look you give to someone that means nothing to you.” She paused for a moment and then continued
“And here I am asking you again. What are you still doing here?”
Kara shrugged and after letting a frustrated sigh Cat continued “You need to dive again Keerah, this time in new waters. Go find him and if it doesn’t work you can always come back, right?”
Kara pondered for a second and then nodded.
“Now off you go chop chop.” she said and basically kicked her out of her office.
“And just so you know, you are fired.” Cat told her with a smile on her face.
Kara laughed in understanding. Before leaving CatCo Kara heard Cat Grant say “Thank you for everything, Kara.”
With no more time to lose Kara flew to the Tower. She gathered the whole team and explained her whole plan to them. After some tearful goodbyes she called Winn.
“I knew you would make the right choice for you Kara.” Alex told her. “I am going to miss you but you deserve to be happy.”
Kara gave her a hug and at that moment Winn answered telling her he would come back tomorrow to get her.
“Promise me, you won’t say anything to him.” Kara said.
“Of course, of course Kara. He won’t suspect a thing. See you tomorrow.”
“See you tomorrow, Winn.”
The next day, Kara wore her suit and made some last-minute arrangements in case she wouldn’t come back any time soon.
Winn was right on time as he promised. She flew into the Legion Ship and after entering a wormhole, they arrived in the future. Everything was different from Earth but it reminded her of Krypton. More advanced technology, modern architecture. It felt like, she didn’t dare say the word but it really felt like home. A place where she belonged. To make things even better she spotted him casually walking into a building that turned out to be the Legion’s Headquarters. Without wasting any more time, she flew after him and hugged him from behind.
“I am here.” she whispered in his ear.
Mon-El stood still frozen unable to trust his ears because there was no way it was her voice.
He turned around and Kara stood in front of him with eager eyes waiting for his response. He pulled her into a hug and spun her around their laughs echoing in the whole building. Legionnaires stopped dead in their tracks as it was their first time hearing their leader laugh so wholeheartedly.
“Is that Supergirl?” Someone asked.
“Yeah, I think so.” Another one answered.
At that moment, Winn stepped up and took away anyone that might ruin this moment. “Everybody come with me. I will explain everything.” All the Legionnaires followed him leaving those two in their own little bubble of happiness.
When Mon-El was finally able to speak after the shock he asked “Are you sure about this?”
Kara nodded and captured her lips with his own. She waited years for this and it was just like she remembered it, maybe even better.
When they broke away from the kiss for air, she placed her forehead close to his and said “I am finally home.”
A/N: What do you mean this didn’t happen in canon? Anw who cares? In my head my babies are together and happy for the rest of their lives and no one can take that away from me. I don’t know if I will ever write anything Karamel related again but for now all I know is that I am done with this show.
