Tone Zodiac
Recently, while studying the zodiac, I realized that there are twelve signs on the wheel, similar to the twelve tones of a chromatic scale, or the twelve spokes on the circle of fifths. Also, to my stoner mind, it was obvious that the aspects of each sign seem to contain harmonic relationships with others along the wheel. Apparently the idea of a Tone-Zodiac, and analogizing the tones in music to the zodiac dates back to Ptolemy, A Greco-Egyptian writer and Mathmetician. This idea has been inspiring musicians and astrologers for centuries, and has been consistently updated and reworked. Rudolph Steiner, founder of Anthroposophy, wrote: "All spiritual experience resulted from the awareness that the number of planets was contained in the seven scales, and the number of signs in the Zodiac was contained in the twelve fifths within the seven scales. The great mystery of man was revealed in the Circle of Fifths." (Rudolf Steiner) Read more about the tone zodiac in Roel Hollander's amazing article all about the subject http://www.roelhollander.eu/en/blog-music/zodiac-signs-and-tonality/
Who would of thought that a professor of music would have engineered such an effective cancer fighting technnique? Watch Anthony Holland use the power of sonic frequencies to absolutely shatter cancer cells. His technique applies the principle of sympathetic vibrations, or that one, unmoving, object will resonate in unison or a harmonic interval. Two precision sounds, oscillating at an 11th interval, directed at a cancer cell, can cause it, like crystal, to shatter. The process of sympathetic vibrations also applies to our relationships, for what we, as people, do, think, and say harmonize with those around us. Our brains are cancer zapping lasers, and we can choose, to use them that way, or we can use them like a toddler with a shit blasting megaphone. We dont have to grow biological antennae to learn to tune ourselves into a frequency you’d want those close to you to share.
Come out and enjoy music from Televangelist, Phargo., Blare, Braithwaite and Emma Stoned!
This is a free event but we encourage a donation (any amount) to help out the band’s traveling from out of state.
Hope to see you all there!
Here’s a picture I took upon arriving to Portland on Saturday. It is now Monday, and the weather is beautiful, highs of 75, lows of 55. Yesterday, we hiked aground downtown, met local friends and sampled many of the amazing fruits and plants that grow wild here. The plums and blackberries I found growing near the sidewalk yesterday were amazing, I am going back for more today. Afterwards, we visited the bustling Saturday market, before having vegan slices at Sizzle Pie. From there, we spent a few hours in Powell’s, a city of books. If you haven’t been to book city, I would highly recommend it. I was searching around the counter culture section for “The psychedelic experience” by Tim Leary, Alpert, and Metzner, but the two copies they had in stock had been moved. The book city police told us: “ it’s likely someone just walked out with a copy, it seems to be a common problem for Leary…everywhere.” I am definitely going back there soon; my favorite part was traveling from floor to floor, observing the spectrum of readers in their chosen sections. Meagan and I have begun writing songs, but have been taking time off from that, until now. I am excited for the things to come, I don’t know what is happening today. Will keep in touch!
Portland Pup-date day 2
No dogs yet, I have not yet lost hope. In other news, Many cats.
Finally made it to the Pacific Northwest! I pen these words while on the drive form Olympia to Astoria, OR. Meagan is at the wheel and I am in the passenger seat; it is overcast and starting to rain. Someone back home told me it would be like living a false hemlock song.. I am thinking of people back home, some old teachers, others I haven’t even met yet. “I want them to know that when you are in the woods, you always have a strobe light mode on your flashlight just in case you need to move it.” I say this to Meagan, and she begins to scan the radio. It kinda feels like we’re in the Simpsons, there are two nuclear cooler vents, keeping us safe, in the woods. We can see them from the highway. I do not like to use too much high technology while in the forest, though I do have my journal entries from the previous nights. I think about all the mountains, and their unique properties. Which mountains’ stone did I like best. I liked the winding slopes down 1-5 to Olympia, and the red rock perched town of Manitou Springs. Of course Yellowstone was gorgeous. The camping itself has been fun, though the weather has been unpredictable, and mostly cloudy. (The radio scanner tunes into a jazzy cover of have yourself a merry little Christmas). Though we haven’t had many sunny days, spathe temperature has been fair, and sleeping in the cold isn’t so bad anyway, especially if there are hot showers nearby. Besides, our Marmot tungsten tent does well at keeping us safe and dry. He inky inclement weather has been at the very beginning when a flooded stretch of highway in North Texas threatened to soak our car. We got through it with minimal damage, and haven’t seen anything so maleficent. I started reading a plant foraging field manual at this campsite between Yellowstone and Cody, Wyoming. ( the radio switches to an interview with a UFO abductee). I enjoyed that site thoroughly, and it’s amazing mountain view. It made me wish to forage the local landscape for vegetables to cook. Even after this, I’d love to integrate wild foods I’ve foraged into my diet. Local and untouched food sources from my native environment seems like an amazing way to reconnect with a primitive lifestyle.
I’m about to leave.
San Antonio summer has been great so far; I have spent many great moments with friends and family. Tonight, I am driving with Meagan through the night, up to Colorado to kick off a three week nature outing. It is time to simplify and be absorbed by this Country's beauty, most of which I have never seen. Planning this trip has been a long process, and I didn't know for sure if I was even going for the longest time, but now, I guess it's actually happening. Hopefully I'll have posted something by the time we get to Portland, but I will definitely reconnect when I am there. Au Revoir!
Wow, so Oregon legalized the recreational use of cannabis tonight. Intersting timing for another state to recognize this right. Our road trip up to Portland is in less than a week away. I realized recently that we’ll be stopping by some awfully paranormal spots. I don’t know if we planned to do this, but we’ll be in places like Sedona and Manitau Springs. This is surreal. Here’s the basic itinerary. July 7: Colorado springs, CO July 8: Moab, UT July 9: Yellowstone np July 10: Washington state somewhere (Tacoma) July 11 - 15: Portland, OR July 16: Big Sur July 17: Joshua Tree, CA July 18-19: Grand Canyon np July 20: Carlsbad Caverns np July 21-22: Marfa, TX / Big Bend np
Listen/purchase: Coyote Songs by False Hemlock
Earlier this month, we finished Meagan's album "Coyote Songs." The songs sound so warm and lovely, perfect for driving at night, and exploring the wilderness. This is the first time I ever recorded using Don's reel-to-reel.
We finished recording Darian's album last night! It sounds amazing! I am excited for the blogosphere to expand their hearts and learn to love due to this new music.

Here's a song from the Lucky Breaks. Listen to the rest by following that link to my bandcamp page. Tyler Reed is hitting the road! I am excited to be taking a roadtrip with Meagan in less than a month. We finalized the first few days of our trip with reservations. On the seventh, we're bustin' through New Mexico on a straight shot to Colorado. From there we will visit Moab, in Utah, then up to Wyoming.
The flyer for Saturday’s show!
Come on out to support your local folk singers, drink some coffee, and snag a tape!
Hello World!
Stay tuned in, because I am going to release a collection of music soon titled: “The Lucky Breaks.” Most of these are songs I’ve been playing at open mics and gigs around San Antonio, but have not been recorded until now.
I am playing a show at Imagine Books and Records, June 13th, with darlings Meagan, Emmanuelle, and Darian. Hopefully, I will have copies of the Lucky Breaks on tape for you, but if you can’t make it, They will be on my new bandcamp page for free! Thanks lovelies!
This is a personal blog for things I care about; songwriting, poetry, journals, photography, audio, and more will be posted regularly. Much love,
Tyler Reed
