(rummages through my drafts and finds this piece I’ve been unable to finish since March, apparently)

I’ve always wanted to paint Vincent this way… It’s a technique where you block in shapes and values without any sketch or lineart. This is actually how I was taught to paint portraits in oils. It is a very traditional method used by the old masters, with a focus on loose brush strokes and soft edges for added realism. Someday maybe I’ll have the courage to paint his portrait on a real canvas
