Steven Bomb 3 The Coming of Sardonyx: Friend or Foe?
Well that was an intense Steven bomb and one I don’t think we’ll ever forget. But like most things with the Steven Universe Crew, we are given another intense hint at the new Steven bomb coming soon with this teaser
Now I have seen a few theories going around as to who this is, and what it could be a combination of. I have heard people say it is going to be a fusion between Pearl and Garnet or between Jasper and another gem, and while these do sound like interesting ideas I don’t think it is going to be.
To start of here’s some research I found on the stone; specifically it’s meaning, it’s look and then how it is made. For observations here is the gemstone
Now onto the first part; meaning. Now as we know Steven Universe is big into accuracy and hidden facts for us to look at. Much like how the meaning of the stone Malachite is a stone Malachite is a “a strong protector of children” but at the same time it “ reaches the inner feelings of the person and reflects what is there, negative or positive ” (source https://crystal-cure.com/malachite.html). This is accurate as Jasper would be the negative and Lapis the positive, as well as Lapis wants to protect Steven who is a child. Now you may be asking what is the meaning of Sardonyx, well as quoted here http://www.healing-crystals-for-you.com/sardonyx.html it states that this stone is a “highly protective stone that embodies a vibration of happiness, optimism and confidence”.
From meaning alone I am not thinking Jasper is a good candidate here. Jasper is not any of these things, unless what we have seen is just an act. But in the two cases we have seen her she has been anything but happy, protective or optimistic. So I am afraid Jasper won’t cut it for this stone
Now onto look. This stone has an orange, red and white combination in colour. The stone is smooth a circular and is oval like in shape. Now this would indeed connect the stone to Garnet and Pearl as the fusion combination for this stone, since they have the colours, shape and even connect to the meaning since Garnet and Pearl would want to protect Steven. Many could say this is in the bag for who the new gem will be
But there is one issue with this, the make up of both of Pearl and Garnet, do not make up the same make up as Sardonyx. Their not even in the same classes as Sardonyx. Sardonyx is an Agate stone, which is connected to the Chalcedony gems and the Quartz gems. Garnets are related to the silicate mineral and Pearls are connected to calcium carbonate. Now while we know stones from other groupings can fuse, one of these would need to be connected some how to the Quartz, Chalcedony, or Agate family or even have a similar chemical make ups to make a Sardonyx and unfortunately they don’t. So this seems like an also dud too
The final clue to all of this is looking at what a Sardonyx is made up of gem wise, and funny enough it is in the name. Sardonyx’s are known to be made by combining them with an Onyx and a Sard stone. These 2 stone do have colour variations that match up with a Sardonyx and share the same variant family of Agate, Chalcedony, and Quartz. Now if this new gem should connect to it’s gemology, this new being will probably be an Ally to the crystal gems considering all of it’s meanings point it to being a happy and protective kind of stone. In addition this stone does connect to strengthening relations between people and forming new friendships, which would also connect to the idea of making it an ally to the crystal gems.
Whether this will be a reformed stone though from one of the corrupted gems or maybe a homeworld gem that they win over to their side, I am not sure. But what I am sure is we are in for one heck of a ride on July 13th.
