Sam won’t learn new lore?
I’m sorry, did Sam know old lore????
To say I’m shocked that Brennan is going to be the DM for Critical Role campaign 4 is an understatement but I am so excited to see what he does with a longer campaign format and I can’t wait to see Matt playing at the table as a main player character.
Also, I would not be surprised if this means campaign 4 is set in a time with incredible high stakes. Brennan has been a key person in telling the story of pre and present calamity and critical role has hinted on multiple occasions they aren’t afraid to break boundaries.
Overall I’m just very excited to dive into a new campaign and wish Brennan the best of luck.
Fjord Stone, truly one of the characters of all time… Travis Willingham locked tf in for three straight years and slowly developed one of the most complex and dynamic character arcs in any actual play show and we don’t talk about it nearly enough!!!!!
Fjord truly does not get enough love
What goes around comes around. In this case the comings and goings being a big pile of Power Word Stun and a heaping side of fuck you Ludinus
So if Scanlan is in Nicodranas what are the chances he “visited” with Jester’s mom and is the originator of the song The Ruby of the Sea is the best lay ever 🎶
I’m very lucky that I also have friends who make me feel safe and loved and powerful. I hope that for everyone. This made me tear up a bit because it reminded me of those people in my life who I know will be by my side no matter what. Feeling safe is such an overlooked element of friendship and I’m so happy Abu shared with us. He did an amazing job!
What are the odds the Mighty Nein couldn’t come to the meeting because Gelidon is one of the dragons in attendance? Cause that would be akwarrrrdddddd
I’m sorry but how in the world did The Mighty Nein become the stealth team?? When has a single one of their stealth plans gone right and not turned into them causing mass chaos??
I give you: hospital run egg dick, stealing a pirate ship by accident, leaving a hole in a avantica’s bedroom and wall of fire, Caleb crunching a bunch of guards with gravity and barely escaping Trent, getting kicked out of basically every archive of the cobalt soul… need I go on?
The only time their stealth mission actually worked was when they stole the beacon and that was basically on accident
I’ve been rewatching some early episodes of campaign two. I forgot how cagey the cast was with each other, it’s so funny. They are all so excited to have a cool, mysterious backstory that they can barely go five minutes without rolling an insight check on each other.
And I thoroughly enjoyed watching those backstories get unraveled. Liam practically drip fed us his throughout the campaign and it was amazing. That scene where Caleb admits to Essek what he always wanted to do with dunamancy, only to let it go. Just brilliant. He started the campaign as a dirt hobo who genuinely thought he might leave the party at one point to constructing a magical tower with a room for each of his friends, crafted with such specificity to show how much he knows them and loves them.
And that’s just one character. Everyone had interesting backstories that were resolved in interesting ways. Everyone had stand out moments. Jester’s famous cupcake scene. Fjord’s “you need me more than I need you.” Many more. The fact that Mollymauk’s story, cut off so painfully short, got resolved so beautifully makes me want to cry just thinking about it. Those fucking dice rolls. Genuinely divine intervention. The wild mother might actually be real.
The cast is so talented, as both actors and players. Matt wove this personal narrative of a bunch of assholes becoming a family together in such neat and touching ways. I’m basically gushing, I just love the Mighty Nein so much. I can’t wait to see them animated.
Why does it not surprise me that everyone in Exandria is in Vasselheim at this meeting except for the Nein. They probably facilitated getting the Empire and Dynasty to even show up then dipped to go save the world from another apocalypse that no one even knows about.
Either that or they got tired of the politics and went to go draw a bunch of dicks on all the temples.
I've seen several people theorize that the boy the Matron saved, Hallis, is Ludinus as a child.
Imagine he woke up in a strange unfamiliar place. He woke up with a recollection of his mother's life work -- to help the gods -- and then the destructive consequences, the betrayal of this devotion convalescing in the death and destruction of an entire advanced, thriving, ingenue civilization that rivaled even the Gods. The last clear memory he had as the world around him goes up in flames is of the Matron, this god of death in a white mask, who whisked him away from inevitable demise but only after the information had been bestowed in his mind, knowledge of a way to destroy the gods. It had to be a joke. That the Goddess of death itself, a woman once mortal ascendent to Godhood, would bestow upon him the grace of knowing that mortals could bring about the end of the gods but only if they could reach a height all but possible but-for the Gods fear and interference. But, she knew. She had to see that he had this information before she took him away. And so that boy grew and he aged and he learned. He placed on his followers the symbol of the woman, the God, who had granted him this curse of life and knowledge. Perhaps both in reverence and as his own form of mockery for the infinite she pretended to be in the face of all he knew. Then, he took her follower -- a man who loved a woman in such a clear expression of his mortality through his divine stature -- and he placed him in a cage on the grandest of stages for her to see. The Gods were Gods because they put limits on man, not because man could not reach them or because they were so knowledgable that the essence of mortality, of life and emotion, could not penetrate them. She had proven that when she saved him.
i don't think essek ever actually decided to join the Cobalt Soul, I think Beau just dropped by Caleb's house unannounced to ask for a ride only to find Essek home alone and just went "eh, you'll do."
when someone asked who he was Beau is like "this is Seth, a new archivist" like what are they gonna do, tell her she's wrong? clearly you misplaced Seth's admission records. you should really be less sloppy, you're making us look bad.
& then it's a slippery slope to "hey essek I need you to stop by the archive in port damali to pick something up, I'm banned again" and then random archivists are asking him for favors bc he's smart and he's friends with expositor lionett and much like m9 accidentally stole a ship, Essek Thelyss accidentally becomes a Cobalt Soul Archivist.
If I had a nickel for every time Brennan got his shit unexpectedly rocked by someone having a special thing that did double damage to his physical constructs…
How poetic is it that the downfall of Aeor was not solely wrought by the gods but mortals as well.
