William tensed a little bit. Lexi seemed to read him like an open book. She just knew how he felt, without him even saying anything directly. He blushed, and scratched his head awkwardly. She was right, but he didnât want to admit it. So he was glad when Lexi changed the subject, and actually asked him to stay. âI⊠of course, if there is anything I can help you with, I will.â he agreed quickly. He wanted to stay, and she gave him a perfect excuse.Â
âDo you need help with packing? Iâm good at it. I can fold clothes in little tight squares, you will fit your entire wardrobe into one suitcase, I guarantee.â he offered her a smile, cheering up a little.Â
A smile came back to her face. Yes...he would stay just a little longer. She didnât want him to leave just yet. She didnât want him to think this would be the last time they would cross paths or that she didnât want him here. It was quite the opposite. She enjoyed his company very much.Â
âThat sounds very nice. I have quite a bit I need to being with me. A lot of these items are sacred...Iâd hate to leave anything behind.â Â
Lexi closed her small shop for the day. The rain continued to pour down. Not even her shawl could save her from mother natureâs wrath. She sniffled and shivered in the extreme weather. She knew she should have brought her umbrellaâŠ
Ravenâs call echoed overhead. It wasnât uncommon for the spirits to roam near her hometown. They always drew closer during fall and winter. The trickster swooped down, cawing and screeching. âRaven, always full of mischief. What brings you here?â The large bird flew deeper into the forest, and thought she was hesitant, Lexi followed. The forest grew dark and suddenly she felt the presence of another. She was no longer alone.

Observation was key. It was what kept Claude in line and helped him to understand every aspect of those he found interest in. And it was her subtle obedience that had first intrigued the man towards her side to begin with. It was a quality that the demon knew would be key if anything were to come of their initial meeting and his well prepared plans.
Darkness now settled around the area, clothing the two of them in a shroud of something that was a simple comfort for the man himself. While all of his thoughts could ultimately help him, Claude knew that variables could change every aspect.
âWelcome,â he said softly, the voice cascading down from the boughs of the trees. Seeming to come from both nowhere and everywhere.
Astonished to hear a soft voice welcoming her, her eyes searched for a face, something, in the darkness. Lexiâs eyes could see nothing and yet...she could feel with every cell in her body that something was with her here. Another spirit perhaps? Raven was long gone, his birdsong fading into the night. Why had he led her here?
It must be fate.Â
Lexi hesitated, but answered back in her own language. âAngwaxtĆas? What is your name?â Did she know the spirit? Had they met before? Surely they havenât. This energy...it was different. It was foreign and strange, a sensation she had never felt before. Â

âYes, I know⊠sorry, I didnât mean to spoil the mood.â William explained himself quickly. He still was worried that if she will like it better back home, and if she will be happier, she will forget about him in some time. But he didnât want to seem upset now and make her worry or get sad as well. He was kind of angry with himself that he got so quickly attached to her. Maybe it was a mistake? Maybe he was just being a fool?
âA-Anyway⊠itâs quite late. If you donât mind, I would like to go get some rest now.â the reaper changed the subject then.Â
William smiled a little, amused by both her mention of âstripteaseâ and the fact that she liked to cuddle him. âI slept very well too⊠youâre a great big spoon for someone so much shorter than me.â He teased back, and then sat down at the table with her.
âI like omelette with tomatoes and onions. Iâm sure the breakfast is delicious, thank you for making it.â The reaper appreciated. âBut I feel⊠like Iâm overusing your hospitality. Is it really alright for me to stay around for so long?â He asked. He wanted to spend as much time with her as he could before she went away, but at the same time he was worried she will grow tired of him.
Lexi shrugged. âMy hips are wide. Iâm literally shaped like a spoon I guess.â Her top was definitely smaller than her bottom. Her shape just wasnât as exaggerated. She folder her arms and pouted. âHey! Iâm not short!â She knew she wasnât exactly the tallest in any of her clans, sharing her height with her elders rather than others her age. She just hated it being pointed out. It was a bad habit her brother had. And now William had joined in.
âNonsense. Youâre more than welcome here. You have no idea how lonely itâs been without you.â She said this as if sheâs known him for years. She had been by herself for the last few years. She was more than excited to have someone to talk to after so long.
She set down Williamâs plate on the table, giving him a warm smile. âDo not worry. I am more than happy to have you around. Nothing will ever change that.â
William blushed to the very tips of his ears, looking away as if to prevent himself from staring. Yes, your hips are wide indeed⊠theyâre lovely⊠- he thought to himself, nervous already. But then he chuckled, and relax, once she pouted so cutely. âYouâre a bit short, thatâs a fact.â he pointed out. âBut Iâm not saying itâs a bad thing. I think youâre⊠perfect⊠just the way you areâŠ.â he stuttered slightly, trailing off as he realized what he had said, and got embarrassed again.
When she put the plate with food in front of him, he started eating quickly, not to say anything else stupid. But he was all happy and giddy inside that she enjoyed his company and wanted him around!
She pouted even more, folding her arms even, when William once again pointed out she was short. John would surely get along well with William when it came to teasing about her height. âIâm not short.â She mumbled quietly.Â
Maybe being short wasnât a bad thing. William said he liked her height. He even went as far to say that it was perfect. That she was perfect. Now she wore an embarrassed pout, her cheeks feeling warm. Maybe he found it cute that she placed everything on a low shelf so she could reach. Now even she began to feel a warm sensation inside. William was a great companion. She hasnât felt this way in yearsâŠso synced up with someone.
She sat down at the table, a cup of passion tea warming her hands and fingertips. She enjoyed the warmth from the tea and from William. âYou really think my height is perfectâŠ?â
âI doâŠâ William replied quietly, shyly looking down at his plate while he ate. âI mean⊠youâre proportional, and in general very pretty so⊠you shouldnât be embarrassed. Being short is not a bad thing, itâs just another quality of the way you are.â he explained his point of view.
âLike.. you know how difficult it is to be as tall as me? Sometimes I hit my head on the door, and Iâm always looking down at everyone so they find me intimidatingâŠâ he sighed.Â
Lexi nearly choked on her drink and she had to quickly swallow and clear her throat. He thought she was pretty?! Her whole face felt hot suddenly. In fact this entire room was starting to feel a little warm. âTh-thank you. I appreciate the compliments.âÂ
She stared down at her cup, thinking of a reply. His response had caught her completely off-guard. âThereâs nothing wrong with your height. I think itâs handsome that you are so tall. I feel relaxed and protected because youâre so tall.â No one should feel intimidated by him, unless heâs pissed of course. Like how he was when they first met.  âWhen you are content, you look different.â
William was very flattered by her words. Not only did she think he looked handsome, but also he was making her feel safe. That was the nicest thing anyone has ever said to him. He propped his elbow on the table, and leaned his cheek against his palm, trying to hide a tiny smile. He felt so giddy it was embarrassing!Â
âDifferent, hm?â he repeated, quietly to himself. No one has ever told him that, probably because no one has seen him relaxed or content for a very very long time. âI feel different⊠when Iâm with you. Calmer. As if, things that irritated me or worried me before were⊠less scary, less⊠important. Not as overwhleming.â
Was that a tiny smile forming on his face? It had to be. Lexi absolutely adored his smile. Smiles from him seemed rare, but every time he grinned, it was like the sun had peeked from behind the clouds. This smile was small, but she loved it regardless.Â
âPerhaps it is becauseâŠI have shown you that life doesnât have to be scary. That we donât have to worry. Life is full of mysteries. We donât know what lies ahead. Finding out is the fun part. I guessâŠyouâve sort of shown me that too. I had forgotten about it all these years. Had it not been for you, I would not have the courage to go home.â
William smiled again, but this time somewhat sadly. It was because she mentioned going home, leaving⊠He was glad that she made that decision because it was clearly making her happy and that was something that she wanted to do. But⊠it meant she will be so far away.
Quietly, William finished eating breakfast, and cleared his throat. âSo⊠maybe I should get going. I really overstayed my welcome. Spending the night and all that⊠while you should get ready for your big trip.â
Her own smile faded. Did talking about going home make William feel sad? She could feel his mood decrease as his energy shifted. Yes, she was going home, but it was for the best. She didnât belong here. Not to mention she wasnât exactly legally here either.Â
âYou feel better, but you are still afraid. Afraid of being abandoned.â Lexi guessed that talking about leaving made him feel like he would be forever just a distant, foggy memory in her mind. But, the truth was, she couldnât forget about him if she tried. âYou can stay. Your companionship is nice. Itâs comforting. I would be sad like you if you went home.â She falsely pouted to prove her point. Sure, she was joking, but she was slightly serious. âAnd I canât take everything with me unfortunately. I wouldnât mind some help if you donât mind staying a little longer?â  Â
âYes, I know⊠sorry, I didnât mean to spoil the mood.â William explained himself quickly. He still was worried that if she will like it better back home, and if she will be happier, she will forget about him in some time. But he didnât want to seem upset now and make her worry or get sad as well. He was kind of angry with himself that he got so quickly attached to her. Maybe it was a mistake? Continued from here.
He dismounted, the same askance glare he always had seemed to deepen as he turned back to look at her. Even so, he considered her offer and decided it would give him time to thoroughly inspect her shop and home.
âI would like a cup of tea.â Even words that are usually neutral sounded harsh. Walking closer, he still made the point that he was here on business of a dreadful sort.
âIâm curious⊠what have you done to occupy all of those three months?â
Lexi reluctantly let him into her home. She not only wanted to stay civil, but she hated standing in the doorway. It was rather awkward.
She gestured to a small round table, carvings of ravens and coyotes were etched in the legs. "Please, sit. I'll prepare the tea." She walked over to a nearby shelf with jars full of herbal tea blends, each one having it's own name. She put her hands on her wide hips, looking over the options. She glances at him once more, the man's sour attitude was hard to ignore. He could loosen up a little and not be so uptight. He could probably use a good laugh. She picked a jar from the shelf labeled 'Laughing Coyote', in hopes the herbal blend could help lift his spirits.
She hums quietly, thinking of a response. "I'll gladly answer your question. However, I'd like to know your name." She didn't bother waiting to see a reaction from him. Instead she occupied herself with boiling water for their tea. "Introductions are very important, don't you think?"

Her new life had finally begun. After moving away from her homeland and to Paris she had settled in quite nicely. At first, the transition was tough. No place to stay nor a single friend in this strange land, her only company being her older brother.Â
They found an abandoned house and fixed it up so it served as both their house, and a shop. Within a few months, Lexi had herbs lining the windows and hanging in pots from the ceiling. Wooden carvings of ravens heads hung outside of their door. Of course, this drew a lot of attention to them, especially from the local children.Â
At times during the day, they would gather around her as she carved yet another raven bust. She would tell them stories about her home or about how Raven, a trickster, created the sun, moon and stars. To her these stories were harmless. She didnât know they might do more harm than good. They became the center of the townâs gossip. However, with this, came unforeseen consequencesâŠ
@frollothings
It took a fair amount of talk around the city to peak Frolloâs interest. He had finally climbed enough ranks to be appointed Judge of Franceâs capital, and he had no intention of doing menial labour any longer.Â
Now, he pursued those who had been considered witches, healers, or other heathen workers that were never seen inside Notre Dame herself. Parents had been frightened with their children spouting stories they deemed unholy. Even harmless ones, if they went against the bible.
It wasnât hard for him to find it, galloping to the doorway that was adorned with the raven head carvings. Parking his stallion, he furrowed his brows as he inspected the herbs. Finally, a hard knock on her door was the first warning that he was not here for a kind story to unfold.
Lexi had been awake since the early morning, tending to her young basil and fennel plants. So far, they had been growing nicely, being leafier than the day before. Most of her other herbs had already grown to full size. In fact, they needed to be clipped a little. She clipped the some of the the vines that hung from the pots overhead. It kept the shop looking clean, while also keeping the plants from over growing.
The town was alive with activity before long, and her brother went out to buy food for them. He had only been gone for a few minutes and already there was a knock at the door. Surely he hadnât come back so soon? She laughed to herself as she went to the door, thinking it was her brother. âJohn, you goof! What did you forgetâŠâ Her voice trailed off, looking up at the stranger and his stallion. âOh! Iâm sorry. I thought you were my brother.â This man before her was quite the opposite. His face didnât look friendly or welcoming like her brotherâs. She still greeted him with a smile. âGilakas'la. Welcome. What can I help you with today?â
He sneered at the welcome. The foreign word she had spoken only added to his own agenda of seeing if the rumors had been true. He furrowed his brows as he looked at her.
âI donât think I will be needing any of your help.â Looking around inside from what he could see from the door, he started making notes of strange and explainable objects. A strange smell caught him off guard, before he noticed the aroma was coming from the hanging plants he had noticed before.
âI would like to know how long you have been in Paris.â He jumped right into the interrogation.
Lexi's dark eyes sized the man up. He seemed to be doing the same. She wasn't at all surprised by how unpleasant he was being. She could tell just by looking at him what kind of person he was. He was nothing short of bitter. Then he jumps straight to how long she's been here. The man hadn't even introduced himself yet!
Lexi had a bit of a temper, and she was trying her best to hold her tongue before she attacks him with words as sharp as a knife. She remains pleasant, though displeasure is written on her face. "I have been here a little over three months..."
Her fingers tap impatiently on the door frame. This whole encounter was weird. And him being up on his horse outside her door didn't make for a comfortable atmosphere. "Would you like to come in?" She asks, her friendly smile returning. "It's awfully early still, and it's a little cold. I could make some tea while we talk things over."
