The sign up form includes an explanation of the rules for requests and for offers, and in the collection’s profile you can find the schedule, the rules and the FAQ. But just to put the main things here:

Sign-ups are open until September 25th at 23:59 CET. The assingments are due on October 28th at 23:59 CET. I also ask that, if anyone thinks they won’t be able to fulfill theirs, they contact me on October 25th AT THE LATEST so that I can find a pinch-hitter. The works will be revealed on October 31st (12:00 CET), and its authors on November 2nd (12:00 CET). After the authors are revealed, you can post your works anywhere else you want (tumblr, fanfiction dot net, etc.). Feel free to send me a link mention me in the post, or tag them with Megstiel Halloween Fest 2021, so I can add them to compilation posts later on.

Requests will be visible after the sign-up period, so that anyone can fulfill extra requests (AFTER they’ve finished their assingment) or for outsiders to participate in the fest. I will also publish a list of those prompts here on tumblr, setting it as my pinned post and linking to it in ao3, for anyone who might have it easier with these page’s format, and to publizice it.

Works must center around Megstiel as a romantic pairing in its own right, and not as a stepping stone for any other ship. Anything less won’t be allowed, period. Polyships are allowed IF your recipient requests them specifically, but there will be limits to how many prompts can include them, so the author can choose to create something else and focused exclusively on Megstiel, if that’s not their cup of tea.

If you’re creating a personalized gift (for the exchange, or on your own), you must respect your recipient requests (i.e. ratings, warnings, etc.) and Do Not Wants. If you’re creating extra gifts or participating on your own (by fulfilling a prompt or even by posting a work on your own), that’s not required, but in that case, don’t put it down as a personalized gift. It’d be a gift for the entire Megstiel community. Archive Warnings must be tagged regardless, with other warnings left at the discretion of the author, with the request that they tag (or warn in the end notes, for those writers and readers who don’t want spoilers) anything potentially triggering in their works.

As per the results of the questionary I made, there are no limits (high or low) to the length of the fanworks. However, I’d ask, in case of personalized gifs, that authors put their best efforts in it. There won’t be an official Halloween/Horror theme either, but requesters can add in the description whether they’d like it added to their gifts, as a bonus, and the authors can choose whether to comply.

Following these rules, any kind of content is game. I’d ask that, if you’re including background pairings, you put them on the Additional Tags category or even the notes, as to not make fans of those ships encounter it in the tags when they’re looking for fanworks about them on their own right.

AO3 allows only up to 10 requests. Per the rules of the exchange, you can also only ask up to 3 requests of each category of gift. Those are selected in “fandom”, and are five in total: fics, fanvids, fanart, poetry, and graphics/gifs/playlists (take into account that your author might only want or can do one of those three when you formulate your prompt). There’s up to 5 offers, one per each category as well.

Use the description in your requests to include any stipulation, Do Not Wants, etc. You can also link to your tumblr if you want your gifter to anonymously contact you with doubts, or even link to a “dear author” letter that you want them to read.

There are links to explanations on how to embed audiovisual content to the page, as well as lists of compatible hosting sites, and a link to a list of tropes for inspiration for your prompts. For the audiovisual content, it’d be great if you added captions and image descriptions (it would certainly save me time when I reblog them over here lol).

I’m tagging those who interacted with the posts pertaining the fest, so you guys can chime in and/or signal boost this. Under the cut there’s also a banner I’ve used for the collection, and that you can use to promote the event anywhere else (twitter, etc.), should you want to.

general psa but your bookmarks on ao3 are public unless you select otherwise and the author can very much see them if you’ve written commentary on their fic. thats not to dissuade someone from leaving commentary at all, but if you’re the type of person that feels compelled to make critical commentary on someone else’s fic then set that shit to private because you’re not doing anyone any favors. Writing fic a hobby people do for fun and there’s no good reason why they should feel criticized by some rando on the internet just because you personally didn’t like some element of their writing or their story. they didn’t write it for you. no one writes what they write for you. don’t be that asshole. and especially don’t be that asshole that rates fics out of 10.

Hello, everyone, and welcome to a new edition of the Megstiel Big Bang! 2020 has been so fucking weird already, we might as well, right?

Please read the rules and be sure to join us on our new Discord server!

Rules for Authors:

You can sing-up for either a Big Bang (10k words min.) or a Mini-Bang (5k-10k words). If you’re not sure how long your fic will be, you can let us know later.

You must have an Archive of Our Own account to participate, as that is where the collection will be hosted.

The fic must be completely unpublished, meaning, you can’t use this as a chance to complete that WIP you’ve posted three chapters of and abandoned, and remain so until your posting date. However, sequels are allowed!

After your posting date has past, you can post your fic in whatever other site you wish! We just ask you to not post it any part of it until then. Snipets and teasers will be allowed after the artists’ claims.

You can write whatever genre you want (AU, Canon Divergence, Dark, Fantasy, Adventure, Crossovers, go nuts) as long as it has Meg and Cas’ relationship as the main focus.

The only types of fics we won’t be accepting are Underage, proxy fics and fics featuring Cas and Meg as part of a poly ship.

You can only write one fic to participate. If you want to collaborate with a friend, you can do that, but that will be considered your only entry.

Your draft doesn’t have to be completed by the DRAFTS DUE! deadline, but you must have at least part of it so your artist can start working on your pieces. The drafts must all be submitted to our email (megstielbigbang.tumblr.com).

If you forget, don’t worry! We’ll be checking in on you and sending you reminders when needed.

All the fics must be Beta’d by the time they’re to be posted. If you don’t have a Beta-reader, let us know and we’ll hook you up with one!

If you need to drop out for whatever reason, please let us know ASAP.

Rules for Artists:

If you sign up as an author, you can’t simultaneously sign up as an artist.

If you claim a Big Bang fic, you will be required to present two pieces of art. If you claim a Mini Bang, you’ll only be required to present one. You’ll have a question in the sign up form so you can indicate your preference or if you don’t have one at all.

You can work with whatever medium you prefer and your pieces can be traditional drawings, digital drawings, manips, banners, chapter headers, gifs, videos or picspams, whatever you wish!

You can’t make art for two fics simultaneously. However, if there aren’t enough artists to cover all the authors, there will be a second round of claimings for those interested.

Art claims are blind, meaning, you won’t know with which author you’ll be working with. You’ll be given a summary of all the fics participating and you must submit to us your top three choices. The fics are assigned on a first come, first served basis, so make sure to answer fast to get your top pick!

Again, if you need to drop out, please let us know ASAP!

You can sign up as an artists by filling out this form!

Rules for both:

Artists and Authors are encouraged to communicate and send each other progress of their work.

If an Author drops out, the Artist will be given the option to claim another fic, post their art without a fic or drop out as well.

If an Artist drops out, the Author will be paired up with a pinch-hitter, but if none is available or the artist dropped out too late to find one, the author will have the option to post their fic without the art or to drop out as well.

The works must remained visibly for up to six months after they’ve been posted!

The Artist or the Author must make a master post for us to reblog that includes the pieces of art and all the fics relevant information (title, author’s handle, rating, addtional pairings, any content warnings they deem necessary and a summary).

Again, we cannot stress this enough, DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE TO DROP OUT.
