the thing about mothers in fiction is that a lot of fandoms seem to be under the impression that the worst thing a woman can possibly do is be a bad mother. like they can forgive deadbeat dads easily but the moment a woman is a bad or even mediocre mother she's the devil incarnate to them. and then you're like "i like her and i think she's interesting" and they immediately go "oh so you think it's okay to be a bad mother (which is the most evil thing a woman can be)". and don't even get me started on how they react to female characters who are bad stepmothers
I like the ease at which Brennan included a trans character. Oh yeah Demodus was poor but when he could afford it he bought a magical beard growing potion. Yeah his clothes are in tatters and you can see a binder. Two lines is all it took and now we know and never need to bring it up again. Demodus doesn’t need to talk about how he was drawn the illusion to show the truth because he wanted to look like his authentic self through magical means. We can assume that. Demodus is now just allowed to exist as a trans grad student. The only important thing we need to discuss is that he’s poor and in grave danger. He wouldn’t be thinking about anything else right now anyway.
staying up too late with ur bestie
Was a little distracted only to look up, see this, and almost shit myself
critical role fandom misogyny can sometimes feel even more egregious than regular fandom misogyny because the usual suspects can't even fall back on the usual 'well the female characters are all underwritten and unrealistic while the male characters get better writing' excuse. the female characters are almost all "written" and played by women. obviously people are allowed to have favorites, but there’s a pattern in the fandom where the women’s struggles and importance to the story are often downplayed in favor of the men’s. male pcs are allowed to be flawed and emotionally complicated in ways that female pcs often aren’t given the same grace for, without getting relentlessly criticized for it
beau and thaisha are both major drivers in their campaigns but often get treated as supporting characters in the stories of the men around them rather than protagonists in their own right
I spent way too much time on this ✌

GANDALF FUCKED UP AND EVIL MOMENT!? WHY DID HE FEEL THE NEED TO SCARE HIM LIKE THAT!?
This is so funny
fumbled the queen but i still have to remain in her service because of my oath for life. so its just really awkward now all the time. fuck my stupid chivalrous life
the elves in aramán are profoundly fucking sad. they're decaying. their people are completely unable to reproduce and they were created by the goddess of life. that feels like sylandri's real barrowdell. the elves as a dying people without her to sustain them.

Laura's face seeing marisha's notes is taking me OUT
[id: marisha flipping through her notes, and laura looking at them over her shoulder with her arms crossed and an alarmed expression.]
