5 DIY Ideas - Rustic Wedding Decor Inspiration
Tiffany & Ronnie’s Rustic Romance Wedding Day
This couple was completely DIY Wedding! With help from family & friends, they made a beautiful wedding ceremony and reception well under the average of most weddings. Here are some decor ideas -
1. Welcome Table - Large wooden box and matching cigar box for cards, a hand drawn Chalkboard sign for gifts. You can find these at Michael’s, Home Goods, or any Hobby Lobby!
2. Large glass vase used as votive - this is a great idea that is inexpensive! You can find these at garage sales or dollar stores including the stones and candles to fill as decor.
3. Treat Bar - The couple opted for a chocolate and vanilla cheesecake along with a rustic step ladder for added affect to their treat bar! Family and close friends are great to call on for treat bars - they can bring a variety of desserts and help lower food costs.
4. The cafe style seating really made quite a statement at this reception - ask around for old vintage style tables & chairs, even if they don’t match it will add flair to any venue! Many rental companies offer these options too.
5. Ribbon Draped Backdrop - Very Easy to do! You can achieve this by using shower curtain rods, connect with PVC pipe to make the back drop stand on it’s own(gorilla glue and patience for this step). Then, with ivory curtains attached neutral tone ribbons with white lighting for added affect. Glue flower poms on the end for a little extra.
We hope this article can help you see that not all decor has to be purchased or rented, you can make any “theme” happen for your Wedding Day - just find inspiration and ideas to make it happen. Remember, this is your day - make it to what you want!

DIY Rustic Wedding (when budget holds you back)
This past weekend we attended a friend’s wedding, where the whole ceremony and reception was decorated by the couple’s loved ones - what a great family!
But more importantly we wanted to show some pieces from the wedding; that any wedding is possible for a small budget!
1. This day is about you! It doesn’t matter that your friend’s wedding was out of this world with food, decor and WOW! her dress - this is your day. The bride & groom ought to be seated separate from the bridal party, after all people attend to see YOU not your total 16 bridesmaids & groomsmen. You can find old fabric at thrift shops to use as backdrops, table covers or use an antique patio set like this couple did. Also, we recommend asking family member’s for any rustic/vintage pieces as a money saving tip.
2. Do not disregard “dollar decor”. Of course shopping at discount stores seems pointless and that you won’t find what you want - but for a budget wedding you’ll need to improvise. Thrifty brides are finding mason jars and covering them with burlap lace for a rustic feel, or you can also spray paint then distress with a 120 grit sand paper for added appeal. Plus, think about all the money saving options for centerpieces, NO ONE will remember if you had fake flowers (most don’t even check besides the one grumpy great Aunt).
3. Have your cake and eat it too! Yes, sharing of the cake between the bride and groom is romantic - but do you really need the 6 tier extravagantly decorated buttercream frosting toffee and chocolate filled cake? Remember your friend’s wedding that you freaked out over their cake? You don’t remember? Of course not, no one does. Think minimalist, simplistic and elegant. This couple opted for a simple chocolate frosted raspberry cheesecake with a cupcake treat bar on the side. It was very chic and affordable!
4. Thrift Stores offer more than you think. Remember how your Aunt used wine bottles and upside glasses as decor and you adored her chic modern style? Well Aunty has moved on to decor from Ikea, but her wine decor was donated to your local Salvation Army. Use thrift stores for decor you wouldn’t expect, including drink station pitchers, wine bottle centerpieces plus tea cups filled with flowers are a very unique centerpiece idea too.
5. How can we budget when our wedding party only eat organic?! There is always the first option - make the buffet yourself. Who honestly has time for that though? Although it is 2015, eating organic and gourmet can be expensive. A couple tips for a budget feast would be to ask in town family to bring a healthy dish, make your own veggie tray (you can do this the night before), a fruit dish is always loved, and cater in the feast. When it comes to catering, my first choice is always Chipotle. They offer options for anyone with allergens and it’s very affordable! If that’s still too much, Panera Bread is great, or call your local favorite restaurant and beg them to help you out! You’d be surprised how businesses want to help for a big day.
Remember to stay calm when planning your wedding day, after all this is a celebration for the both of you - it’s about love, commitment to each other and support from your loved ones. If your budget is tighter than you expected because of your dress or venue, think about getting hitched and just celebrating with your friends/family.
Good luck and don’t forget your wedding favors!
