The boys have escaped like 3 days in a row now & Junior is the only one who beelines straight for the hen yard 🤦‍♀️ LJ kicks his ass every time he gets in there and yet he still keeps trying.

The other three are content to just peck around in the dog yard, eating the flowers in the lawn and tidbitting to each other lol

Things on Wiley that I am OBSESSED with. His comb is such an interesting shape (kept trying to get a pic from straight on but he refuses to let me put my phone in his face like that lmao) & his tail feathers are so neat. The short ones with the blue/green inside and the yellow on the edges??? The sickle feathers that start off blue/green (and super iridescent) then turn striped??? 10/10 absolutely love this little terror. He's so pretty.

Went out to close the coops & there was a like half dollar coin sized puddle of blood in the boy coop. I immediately thought, comb blood from a potentially pecking but nope. One of Rude's spurs cracked somehow??? And man those things sure do bleed a lot. 🫠

My sister helped me staunch the bleeding with some corn starch (after cleaning off his leg since it was covered in blood) & we did our best to pack and wrap the spur. But the vet wrap wasn't wanting to stick, we had to tape the edges so hopefully it stays on overnight & the thing doesn't just keep bleeding all night long 😰

Poor baby, their spurs aren't even that big yet. Just little nubbins still so idk what could have even happened to make his crack open like that.

Good news, the wrap stayed on overnight & is holding up despite the rain today 🙌 I can't grab him/change the wrap to a fresh one during the day by myself so hopefully tonight when I can have some help. I'm thinking that it'll need to be wrapped for at least a couple of days, just in case to hopefully lower the risk of the wound getting infected.
