Stop normalizing the grind and start normalizing whatever this is
absolutely obsessed\with this game, Unpacking, by Witch Beam.
the premise of being given a few boxes to unpack into a room at certain periods in your character’s life is simple but extremely well-executed. you start off with boxes in rooms and get to experience the story through the objects and spaces within.
while there are a few objects that should go in specific places, there are mostly no wrong answers to how you choose to decorate your space, and it can be as cluttered or neat as you want. the satisfaction of transforming a room from a bare skeleton to your room is just *chef’s kiss*.
anyway if you’re looking for a low-stakes zen game with an engaging narrative and a great core gameplay loop, i cannot recommend this enough.
I was planning on making What Remains of Edith Finch my third completed game of the year, but I discovered that I can only play it in small bouts because I get a little bit of motion sickness. ☹️ I still plan on finishing it, but wanted something to play in between, so I decided to find a game in a different format and less intense.
There’s a game that pops up when people ask for something casual and calming, a game that surprised me when it was released because people were loving it, even though the premise seems so mundane. It’s a little game called Unpacking.
But I liked the idea of mindlessly placing objects where they should go, and it’s on Game Pass, so I downloaded it. And I quickly became attached to the game, not only because of how satisfying it was to give items a home within the home, but because there was a story unfolding that I didn’t expect! The ending was so sweet! My only complaint is that it’s too short. I hope there’s a sequel or DLC.
I didn’t get all the stickers, and part of me doesn’t want to look up how to get them all. I look forward to coming back to this game to see if I can figure them out myself while enjoying the microdoses of dopamine that come with putting things in their right place.
In case anyone is wondering what's going on right now, Elon banned a bunch of journalists and rival social media companies like Mastodon for "doxxing" him
(Read: posting publicly available info about where his jet goes, which most of them weren't even talking about anyway)
But the suspended accounts could still access Twitter Space, so a bunch of journalists got together in a packed Space to talk about what happened
He shows up, calling in FROM THE JET IN QUESTION, refuses to actually answer any of the questions posed to him, and exits again
Less than half an hour later, (I was in the chat at this time), it goes down - Space is now inaccessible to EVERYONE on Twitter, just because of this one single room
LIVE DEVELOPMENTS HAPPENING AS WE SPEAK
It’d be more interesting to watch a billionaire melt down in real time if it didn’t affect my favorite social media platform. Twitter has been my trusty source of news and entertainment, and my personal venting space.
I’m trying other platforms, but they don’t hit the same. Mastodon has too much of a learning curve, Post is invite-only, and no one talks about Hive.
Tumblr is somewhat a substitute, but why aren’t there timestamps here? It doesn’t lend itself to be a good source of news, but moreso opinions and entertainment. EDIT: Thanks to a stranger, I found out how to turn on timestamps! Why wouldn’t this be turned on by default?
Anyway, posting here because I’m trying to tweet less and haven’t set up my self-hosted blog yet.
started playing this game, 'Lake', yesterday! it's super laid back and fun, also very pretty, and I simply adore the old cat lady! There was a mission where I helped her with one of her cats, and I'm hoping/looking forward for more from her in the future as I adore her kitties.
Since I enjoyed playing Firewatch, I jumped on Lake since people in r/XBoxGamePass said it had similar vibes and is also leaving Game Pass soon. I got to play a woman who takes a vacation to WORK!
Thankfully, the life as a postal worker is not very stressful, although listening to the same songs over and over again did get old. I muted the radio and listened to podcasts as I delivered mail and got to know some of the residents of the town.
It was fun to see the romantic choices available, mostly because I didn’t expect it. My girlfriend called the game, “a Hallmark” movie; the dialogue is extra cheesy. Unlike Firewatch, there are multiple endings, but also unlike Firewatch, the gameplay and graphics aren’t as compelling so I will not be playing it again. Not a bad game, but not one I’d suggest paying more than $5 for.
2nd game finished… now to start What Remains of Edith Finch!
loving that Gossip Girl said no to political lesbianism and yes to heterophobia
You came out to put your memories behind you and they’re still right there in front of you.
Not sure what got into me, but I ended up buying both a PS5 and an Xbox Series S last month, even though I rarely play video games anymore. I also subscribed to PS Plus and Game Pass, and my interest in video games has returned! Turns out, it’s nice to have a buffet of games to try without commitment.
I can’t remember the last time I’ve completed a game, so I decided to try Firewatch since it caught my eye years ago, it’s only 5-7 hours long, and it’s leaving Game Pass soon. I’d never played a walking simulator / visual novel before, but I enjoyed it. I think I checked out every Choose Your Own Adventure book in my school’s library as a kid, and it scratched a similar itch.
Of course the ending of Firewatch isn’t what most would’ve wanted, but the journey was enjoyable. The voiceover was solid (I knew I recognized Harry’s voice from somewhere — Mad Men!) and the gameplay was simple enough. I really liked the art style — it made getting lost not so bad. I completed the game in a week; it was a very busy week at work, so it was nice to hop in to play a day or two, here and there. Not something I’d pay more than $10 for, but still something I’d recommend to anyone wanting a short escape. “Escaping isn’t always something bad.”
hey (with the intentions to assemble all of your ikea furniture for fun while you drink a glass of wine and admire me)
Scamp stopped for a picture with Weedle on his walk today.
Awhh, they are almost the same size!

Yes, They Make All the Dam Jokes
Hoover Damwas very much an obligatory stop for my trip because it seemed like a shame to be so close and not visit it. Since I stayed up late piddling around on my phone and I wanted to catch one of the first Hoover Dam tours of the day, I could only squeeze in five hours of sleep. My body was starting to feel the effects of hiking and walking all day and sleeping…

California, I Missed You
When I was deciding where to go for Spring Break, someone suggested Death Valley. I didn’t know a single thing about Death Valley but once I realized it was in California, I knew I wanted to go. I enjoyed the forests and beaches when I visited California for the first time in 2011 and had always wanted a reason to go back. So, Wednesday morning after my 5-hour nap, I…

Up and At Them
The excitement of my first day in Vegas kept me up even after I climbed into bed. The excitement of having me stay the night woke me up early in the form of Noah’s two boys politely knocking on my door five hours later, wanting to squeeze in some play time before they went to school. Who was I to argue? I needed to get up anyway and having the youngest one cuddle up with me while…

Sorry, Not Sorry
In the past, I usually blogged from the road which I felt gave everyone the sense that we were on this trip together. At least, that’s how I felt. However, my trip to Las Vegas was so jam-packed with shenanigans, I didn’t have time for anything more than some tweets and ‘grams. Perhaps more truthfully, I didn’t want to make the time for blogging because that would’ve been an hour…

The Neener Tour 2014: Here We Go!
I leave for the airport in six hours so I probably should be in bed or packing my suitcase or something responsible like that but in typical The Neener Tour fashion, I’m documenting this. Also, in typical The Neener Tour fashion, I only have the following set plans for this week:
Go to airport
Arrive in Las Vegas
Get rental car
Visit The National Atomic Testing Museumbecause I bought a $6 ticket…

The Neener Tour 2014: Spring Break Destination Chosen!
I’ve been a little sidetracked lately and today I realized my Spring Break starts in two weeks! So, without mapping out the details, I pulled the trigger on the plane tickets (because they ain’t gettin’ any cheaper, y’all). I’m a little sad I won’t be on the road as much during this trip but I’m excited for having more time to explore…
LAS VEGAS!
I’ve never really had Las Vegas as a “must-go”…
