itt ergonomic keyboard
what in gods name am i looking at
the left side is where i place my typing orb
So not to derail, but this is what’s called a one handed keyboard. Obviously, that means it’s designed to be used with one hand. While this is something that a few professionals who do hella typing and mouse clicking prefer, as it means not switching your right hand back and forth between input devices, the primary purpose is, of course, to allow people with the user of my one hand to have maximal use of their computers. People missing a hand, as well as people with partial paralysis are the primary market.
They come in right and left hand versions, and this itt board is one of the more expensive models, but the curvature really is (according to reviews) excellent for helping prevent fatigue and repetitive strain injuries on the one hand that’s doing the work of two.
Just thought I’d share. Accessible computing is a seriously under appreciated field and while I admit the keyboard is quite striking to look at, the engineering and consideration that has gone into its design really cannot be over stated.
Really appreciate the last comment. As someone who has to use adaptive equipment, ppl are always so focused on how weird it looks and how impossible it would be to use ect ect ect and it can just get a bit. Old tbh 😂
yeah it looks funky but it enables me to do the same things that everyone does. I don’t know just maybe if you see a unusual set up irl appreciate how cool it is, not how difficult it will be for you, person who doesn’t need it, to use. Like. IT guys you can just bring ur own USB mouse and keyboard lol you don’t have to act like I lured you here and forced you to use my saw trap of a setup
Anyway. Ergonomic equipment is really cool. And they really do reduce fatigue! Ppl who are able to use normal equipment just kinda get used to it not being ergonomic and only bother to look in to other equipment once they’ve already got a rsi or whatever but positioning is really important for everyone! Atm this kind of equipment is crazy expensive cause ppl only use it when they have to, but if more ppl saw the benefit of Ergonomics before they’ve fucked up their hand or whatever with the standard equipment and stopped treating them it like something alien and impossible to learn, they’d have more of a market and would be easier to access
Part of why this equipment is expensive is that if you make it really expensive you can target the market of “people who got RSI at work and their worker’s comp insurance is paying for it and does not care as long as it’s cheaper than surgery”, so you can charge $2k for a keyboard because it is a medical device and the next step over is to spend $15,000 and up on surgery.
But actually ergonomics are huge for everyone, and you can get much cheaper ergonomic keyboards that are still pretty decent. I’m typing this on an Ergodox EZ keyboard (like $200-300), and they’re great.

“you couldn’t make this movie today” not because of cancel culture but because big studios aren’t willing to take risks on cool fun new ideas instead of adaptation number 7,000
Getting that weird overwhelmed feeling in the pit of my gut and thinking about “fun” things I can do when I get home is not helping me
