     "‘Mallow’, huh? Hold up a sec…“ Daisy furrowed her brow as she tried to think.

     Being the hospitable princess she was, Daisy was more than happy to help the little cloud fellow wandering her kingdom, apparently lost. She was sure this was her first time meeting the boy, but she couldn’t shake the nagging sense of familiarity as she listened to him explain his plight.  

      She lit right up the moment it finally clicked in her mind.

     "Say, you wouldn’t happen to know a cat by the name of 'Mario’, would ya?”

 Maybe it had been the sweltering sun that he had been walking under for seemingly hours on end, but Mallow couldn’t help but feel like today had been loner and more tiring than any of his other days travelling. It was incredibly fortunate for him that Princess Daisy herself happen to find and help him.

 If nothing else, it was incredibly convenient for Daisy to have found the boy, seeing as Mallow was hoping to meet her in the first place. But seeing as he was in a far away kingdom that he had never been to before, he inevitably got lost. 

 Mallow tried to explain all of this to Daisy, just before his rambling was cut off by her question.

    “Huh, Mario? Sure I know him. Mario’s my friend! Do you know him?”

What even was this thing? It looked like a tiny cloud with limbs, and clothes. Iggy couldn’t help but poke and prod at the tiny cloud-person, keeping eye-contact with him. Well, that’s one way to greet someone.

“Jeez, what are you, made out of cotton candy or something? I’ve never seen someone like you before! Blahahaha!”

 Just as Mallow thought he had heard all the possible nicknames for himself based on how he looked, be it Puffy or Cloud Boy, someone would come along to find some new way to tease him. Though he had to admit, cotton candy was new, albeit no less irritating.

    “Umm, my name’s Mallow. I’m a nimbus. Er, who are you, and would you maybe stop poking me please?”

 His confident facade now almost completely shattered, the quivering boy sniffed and looked up at the older breeder.

    “Then y-you’d better get it out here fast, or we’re history…”

 More beedrill flew around, the ones closest to them were now looking directly at them. The intruding trainers had threatened them, and now they were ready to do anything to keep them out for good. If worse comes to worst Mallow might be able to summon his own pokemon to fight, but there was no doubt that even all their powers combined would they be able to withstand the overwhelming number of bug pokemon they were up against.

   ❝Hang on– w-we’re gonna b-be okey-dokey.❞

Luigi could feel his nerves escalating dramatically– anxiety was clawing at his insides, squeezing his chest to quicken his breathing. However, seeing the young trainer beside him in such clear distress was keeping a cap on his own panic and kick-starting his naturally protective nature. He drew back his heel and very slowly removed one of the Poké Balls from his belt.

   ❝St-Stay behind me– g-get ready to run–❞

❝Happy, you know what-a to do,❞ Luigi added, seemingly talking to thin air. His heart was thundering in his chest, but it was time to be brave– like Mario. He had his Pokémon by his side and someone to protect. 

   ❝–And, let’s-a go!❞

Tossing his Poké Ball, Luigi scrambled back. Just like he promised, a Gengar appeared from nowhere, eyes glowing in preparation for a Psychic attack. From the ball, sprang a Raichu, who’s cheeks were crackling with electricity.

 From behind the older trainer, Mallow saw the two pokemon emerge and face the oncoming hordes of Beedrill. While they looked strong, they were still vastly outnumbered. They just needed an opening so they could run, didn’t they. If that was the case, then Mallow wanted to help in any way he could.

    “I-I wanna help too!!”

 Shaking hands grabbed for one of the poke balls in his bag. With a a swift button press and a short throw, an Altaria emerged to join the other two pokemon. If a move like Sky Attack could help ward off the encroaching bugs, then maybe he would be able to help out in some way after all.

 So Luigi didn’t have anything super effective against Beedrill, but a pokemon like Raichu might be helpful. As for Mallow, most of his team consisted of the fairy type, which were resistant to bugs, but weak to Beedrill’s poison.

    “Er, ok. That sounds ok. I have an Altaria. You think that could work?”

 Without warning another Beedrill even closer and landed on a tree not too far off from them. The young trainer instinctively wanted to grab for one of his poke-balls, until realizing that any sudden movement might set the bug pokemon off.

   ❝Y-You know, I-I– eep-!❞

The green-clad trainer’s response was interrupted by the encroaching bug-type Pokémon. Oh boy, those stingers looked deadly…

   Wait… stingers?

That’s right! Beedrill was part poison type! In his trepidation, the anxiety-ridden Luigi had overlooked the extra typing in play here. Perhaps he did have something up his sleeve. Lowering his trembling voice to barely above a whisper, Luigi explained–

   ❝Muh–My Gengar knows how to use Psychic… I-I’ve seen this     behaviour– they’re gonna a-attack us any s-second…❞

They were going to have to make a run for it by the looks of things. Luigi hated making his Pokémon fight. He didn’t want them getting hurt on his behalf, but the Pokémon themselves were more than happy to defend their timid trainer. His Gengar was outside his ball as usual– hanging around unseen and ready for danger.

    “Uhm, ok then…”

 Mallow wasn’t exactly sure why he would need a dramatic entrance. As a matter of fact, who even was this guy? Gently brushing the stranger’s hand away, Mallow turned to ask another question.

    “So um, who are you??”

“Moi?” Dimentio bellowed, bubbling with self-importance. He floated into the air, hand stationed on his chest,”Why I’m only the most powerful, most magnificent magician in all the land: Dimentio! And you! …You wouldn’t happen to be from that quaint little cloud kingdom across the way, would you?”

 Mallow gave a quiet giggle. Seemingly haven forgotten any doubts or suspicions he had about this stranger, the boy proudly and emphatically proclaimed his title to him.

    “Yep, I am! My name’s Mallow. I’m the prince of Nimbus Land! Nice to meet you Mister Dimentio!”

“Star Road.” Geno had swore one of these days Mallow would get the name right, today was not that day it seems. “I’ve been fulfilling the common duty of my people. sifting through wishes, deeming which would be worthy or unworthy of granting. it’s quite the hassle to tell you the truth.”

    “Oh yeah, right, heh…”

 Mallow figured he should probably have remembered that name by now, but he was sure Geno wouldn’t mind. After all, lots of people got the name wrong, so he would probably be used to it, right?

    “So um, granting wishes huh? How do you know which ones aer worthy? Like, do they have to be wished by good people? Or can anyone get their wished granted.”

“Something like that, only those with noble intentions get their wishes granted. we have to sift through SO many wishes to get to something grantable nowadays.” Geno shrugged. “Really you cant blame me for wanting to come back here.”

    “That so, huh? Wow, granting wishes sounds way more difficult than I thought it would be...”

 The young prince began to wonder what kind of wishes the stars must have to attend to. Or for that matter, how often had they heard his wishes? How often must the stars have heard him make wishes to be stronger or to not be such a crybaby? Would those wishes be considered ‘noble’ or would they be seen as laughable?

 Mallow didn’t really want to know the answer, so he decided to change the subject.

    “So, are you taking a break while you’re back on Earth?”

Luigi faltered with a soft whimpering noise. His affinity lay with grass-type Pokémon, which were weak against bugs. Half his current team were made up of grass Pokémon, too. Fire-types were headstrong– they were more to his brother’s preference. The anxious breeder was making a panicked mental note to breed or catch himself a fire-type if they got out of this.

   ❝N-Not… exactly…     Uhm… let’s-a see– I-I have a Raichu–❞

Electric wasn’t effective against bugs, just neutral… but at least he had team members who could tackle them if push comes to shove. It might do, because the Beedrill were beginning to take note of the humans in their forest. Their buzzing was getting aggressive and Luigi felt his stomach drop.

    “Oh no. Um... well are your parents anywhere?”

 Mallow didn’t really know if the little guy could understand him at all, but he wasn’t sure what exactly he was supposed to do or say to help this kid.

Nevertheless, Luigi shadowed the young trainer nervously. He hunched his lanky form, eyeing the tree canopy with distinct unease.

   ❝B-Bug Pokémon are kinda spooky don’t’cha think…?❞

 Mallow tried in vain to stand up straighter, hoping to keep his guise of pseudo-confidence. 

    “Yeah they’re pretty creepy, but I’ve got flying pokemon, so we could totally handle them!”

 The boy looked in the direction of the bug pokemon’s nest. Kakuna and Metapod hung from the branches, gently swaying with the soft breeze running through to woods. They weren’t of any threat to the travelers, but the occasional Beedrill moving from one tree to another did cause some alarm between the two. 

    “Erm, you do have some pokemon that are good against bug types, right?”

The boy in red tilts his head curiously as he waves at the being.

 Mallow looked down at the little baby boy in front of him, oblivious to the fact that this infant very closely resembled an old friend of his.

    “Awww, hey there little guy! Are you lost or something?
