Upon A New Horizon Part VIII
Alicia and her friends followed their teacher Mrs. Kay with her partner Pokémon, Alakazam, and the Pewter City Gym Leader Brock inside the Gym to witness Alicia's first ever Gym battle.
“We're almost there.” Brock announced as the slide door opened to reveal the battlefield Alicia's Pokémon had to take the battle on.
Rocks and stones were placed all around the battlefield, making it the perfect environment for Rock-Type Pokémon.
“Katie, could you do me a favor?” Alicia asked, holding her Zorua in her arms.
“Oh, sure. What can I do?” Katie asked.
“Could you please take good care of Trix while I'm out on the battlefield?” Alicia requested, handing Trix over to her. “I don't want him to get hurt or accidentally end up on the battlefield since I’m only allowed to use two Pokémon.”
“No problem.” Katie smiled as she readjusted Trix in her arms. “Good luck out there. We’re rooting for you.”
“Thanks.” Alicia thanked her before walking up to the battlefield with Aki and Anubis by her side.
“Both opponents will use two Pokémon each.” The referee explained. “The challenger is allowed to switch out Pokémon between battle. Whoever’s both Pokémon are unable to battle wins.”
Brock grabbed a Pokéball from his waist before it’s tossed in the air to release his first Pokémon.
The PokéBall opens and, in a burst of light, a Pokémon that is best described as a rock with muscular arms emerges.
“Geo!” The Pokémon grunted.
“Geodude? What Pokémon is that?” Rachel asked.
“Oh, right, you’re from Unova. Pokémon like Geodude are not local there.” Katie remembered. “Geodude is a Rock and Ground Type Pokémon that are from the Kanto Region.”
“Oh, so it’s weak against Water-Type moves like Aki’s Water Pulse.” Rachel stated.
“Exactly.” Arturo confirmed.
Meadow gets out her pink Smart Roton Phone to analyse Geodude on her PokéDex app.
“Geodude, the Rock Pokémon, a Rock and Ground Type. When it sleeps deeply, it buries itself halfway into the ground. It will not awaken even if hikers step on it unwittingly. In the morning, it rolls downhill in search of food.”
“Dewott!” Aki called. “Dewott! Dewott!”
“You want to start first Aki?” Alicia asked her partner.
Aki nodded before jumping on the battlefield ready to fight against Brock’s Geodude.
“Battle begin!” The referee announced.
“Geodude use Tackle!” Brock ordered his Geodude as its charged up to Aki, Alicia’s Dewott.
“Aki, dodge the attack!” Alicia added
“Dewott!” Aki grunted, dodging the tackle.
“Dude!” Geodude bounced along the ground, using his arms to catch himself and turned back towards his opponent.
“That looks more like bouncyball fighting Aki than an actual Pokémon.” Rachel giggled a little bit.
“I shouldn’t make jokes at a time like this.” Arturo cautioned. “Even though Alicia has the Type advantage, Brock’s Pokémon are still tough.”
“Use Water Pulse!” Alicia ordered as her Dewott fired a Water Pulse at the Rock-Pokémon.
“Deeeewott!” Aki fired the attack at Geodude.
“Geodude! Use Defense Curl!” Brock shouted.
“Geo!” Geodude responded.
The Rock Pokémon quickly curled up into a ball by using the move, Defense Curl. The attack didn’t damage the Rock and Ground-Type.
Rachel tilted her head in confusion on what just happened.
“What just happened?” She questioned. “How come Water Pulse didn’t work?”
“Because of the move Defense Curl.” Arturo informed her.
“That heightens the user's defenses, right?” Katie asked.
“That’s right.” Mrs. Kay responded. “Once the move is used, the opponent's attack weakens."
Alicia noticed the pattern Brock is using. “Aki use Razor Shell over and over again!” She ordered as her partner grabbed both scallops from his waist to run up to Geodude.
“Deeewwott!” Aki slammed one Razor Shell after the other against Geodude.
“Geo!” Geodude grunted upon impact.
Aki used the same attack over and over again before Brock’s first Pokémon fell unconscious from the Razor Shell attack.
“Geo…dude….!” It fainted.
“Geodude is unable to battle! The victory goes to Dewott!” The referee declared.
“Way to go girl!” Rachel cheered.
“Alright! Go Ali! Awesome job, Aki!” Katie beamed.
“Pop! Pop!” Nalu barked happily, clapping her flippers.
“Zo! Zorua!” Trix yapped.
“Huh?” Meadow noticed something was wrong with Aki.
“What’s wrong?” Katie asked in confusion.
Arturo looked closer.” It seems that all the Razor Shell attacks caused Aki to be out of breath.”
“De…wott… De…wott…” Aki panted.
“Aki, you're out of breath. Come back!” Alicia offered her partner Pokémon a small break to give her Riolu Anubis time to battle the next Pokémon.
Aki stumbled over to rest outside of the battlefield.
“Dewott!” He sat down next to Alicia to take all the rest he needed in case she had to use him.
“Geodude come back!” Brock returned his fainted Geodude back into his PokéBall.
“Brock’s just down to one Pokémon left.” Katie stated. “And… it’s a lot tougher to beat from what I’ve heard.”
“Who is it?” Rachel curiously asked.
“Anubis you can do it!” Alicia motivates her Riolu to move on the battlefield.
“Rio!” Anubis yapped as he dashed onto the battlefield.
“She chooses Anubis?” Meadow shyly responded.
“Fighting-Types are very strong against Rock-Types.” Arturo reminded.
“I just hope it’s enough against-” Katie started to say when Brock sends out his next Pokémon.
In a burst of light, a massive Pokémon that resembles a snake made out of links of rocks and has some kind of horn on its head towered over the tiny Riolu. The Pokémon growls as it leers down at Anubis.
“Riolu….” Anubis shivered as the Rock and Ground-Type Pokémon appeared in front of him, towering over him.
“It’s sc-scary!” Meadow stuttered in alarm.
“Sobble…!” Her Sobble whimpered, making himself invisible.
“Dude! That’s a really BIG Pokémon!” Rachel exclaimed.
“And it seems that Anubis is scared of it.” Arturo pointed out.
Katie gets out her phone to analyze the large Pokémon.
“Onix, the Rock Snake Pokémon, a Rock and Ground Type. When it travels underground, it causes rumbling and tremors. It can move at 50 miles per hour.”
“Okay, that could be a problem.” Rachel sweatdropped.
Anubis is shivering as Brock’s Onix stares down at it.
“You can do it, Anubis!” Katie cried.
“Riolu?” Anubis looked to the others cheering him on with their Pokémon.
“You and Alicia trained hard for this!” Katie called. “I know you can win this!”
“Popplio! Pop!” Nalu chimes in as Glimmer neighed.
“Zorua!” Trix howls to motivate his teammate.
“Dewott! Dewott!” Even Aki gives the little Riolu a motivational speech.
“Yeah!” Rachel yelled. “You beat up Hawlucha good! You’re not gonna let some overgrown pile of rocks intimidate ya!”
“Scorbunny!/Hawlucha!” Scorbunny and Hawlucha added in.
Anubis looked behind himself to watch Alicia. She looked as nervous just like he does right now.
Yet she smiled confidently, nodding to show him he can do it.
Anubis shook his head before he got into a battling stance, preparing to fight.
“A Riolu, huh?” Brock chuckled. “Well, no worries. Onix we will win this fight!”
Onix roared, causing the entire Gym to shake and rattle.
“EARTHQUAKE!” Rachel yelled as she and her friends were shaken around in their seats at the stands.
The group yelped as they were nearly thrown off their seats before Alakazam used his Psychic abilities to keep them steady.
Alicia and Anubis didn’t need to talk with each other. Somehow, the Aura between them both is stronger than ever.
“Did Anubis just avoid Onix’s Tackle attack, without hearing Alicia's order?” Arturo asked as the seats stopped to rattle and shake.
“I… I think they’re communicating via their Aura…” Katie gasped softly.
“Their what now?” Rachel asked.
“Their Aura.” Mrs. Kay responded.
“It’s something that specially connects a Trainer with their Riolu or Lucario.” Katie explained. “I had actually seen this happen before when I was battling Alicia while training. It was almost like they were connected. Like… they’re completely one.”
“Onix use Bind!” Brock yelled.
Onix roared again, before slithering up to Anubis. His stone-like body tried to wrap around the tiny Riolu when all of a sudden, a powerful Vacuum Wave hit the Rock Snake Pokémon in the face as Anubis had eluded the attempted grab.
Onix groaned in surprise and agony as he stumbled back from the attack.
“Onix!” Brock gasped in shock. “I can’t believe how fast her Riolu is!”
“It’s even faster than in our battle, Hawlucha.” Rachel claimed.
“Hawlucha…” The Flying and Fighting Type marvelled.
Brock grunted as the Fighting-Type continued to use Vacuum Wave on his Onix.
“Use Bind again!” The Gym Leader ordered again.
Onix shook himself before he lunged for another attempt to grab his tiny opponent.
“Riolu!” Anubis dodged the Bind attack again. “Riolu!”
“That’s one slippery little guy!” Rachel commented. “I think Onix’s definitely gonna have a hard time nabbing him unless Brock switches tactics and orders a different move.”
“It sure looks like you’re right, Rachel.” Arturo said before he blocked his ears with his hands as Onix used Screech.
“Aaah! My ears!” Katie screamed as she covered her own ears. Due to her autism, her sensory hearing is much more sensitive.
“Dewott!” Aki grunted too.
“Veeee!” Eevee whined, her ears flattening against her skull.
Alicia grunted too but remained calm like her Riolu Anubis before they waited for another attack to strike.
Onix stopped screeching for one second to focus on the battle.
But Alicia’s Riolu is nowhere to be seen.
“Huh? Where did it-?” Brock gasped, looking around.
The other followed suit before Katie spotted Anubis way up in the air, using a new attack which caused the tiny Fighting-Type to glow blue.
“C-can it be…?” She uttered in awe, putting two and two together.
“Anubis is evolving!” Katie cried in excitement.
“Raaaahhhh!” Anubis growled as a blue sphere formed between his paws as his evolution completed.
As the blue glow epically faded, the fully evolved Fighting-Type fired the blue sphere of aura energy downwards, hitting his target head on, throwing the shocked Onix backwards.
“Cario!” Anubis grunted as he landed safe and sound on the ground.
“I can’t believe my eyes!” Arturo exclaimed. “Anubis actually evolved!”
“In the middle of a Gym match no less.” Rachel quipped. “What are the odds?”
Smiling in awe, Katie took out her phone once again to analyze the newly evolved Anubis on the PokéDex app.
“Lucario, the Aura Pokémon. A Fighting and Steel Type, and the evolved form of Riolu. It can tell what people are thinking. Only Trainers with justice in their hearts can earn its trust.”
“Th-that’s amazing!” Meadow gasped.
“I must say the little one’s full of surprises.” Mrs. Kay commented happily.
Alicia blinked before she smiled, happy to see Anubis fully evolved into a Lucario.
“Y-Y-You did it Anubis!” She cheered on before she remembered the battle is still going on as Onix emerges from the cloud of dust.
Onix growled as he trembled, suffering from extreme damage from the super effective attack.
“Are you okay, Onix?!” Brock called out in concern.
Onix grumbled in answer. He was hurt, but he’s not out yet.
Anubis looked behind himself to look at his trainer in the eyes before both nodded in agreement.
“Lucario!” He roared, summoning a blue glowing bone staff from his paws.
“Bind’s not gonna work, so let’s try something else!” Brock exclaimed. “Use Rock Throw!”
Onix summoned floating rocks before it tossed it up towards Anubis the Lucario. However, Anubis has shown to be just as fast and as agile when he was a Riolu earlier and evaded the thrown rocks. Even leaping over them like it was nothing.
“Lucario!” Right on time Anubis tossed the bone staff towards Onix.
“What are these new attacks?” Rachel asked.
“The P-PokéDex says that the glowing bone is a Ground-Type move called B-Bone Rush.” Meadow explained. “And the g-glowing sphere he had used earlier is a move called Aura Sphere; a move that only Lucario can use.”
“Bone Rush and Aura Sphere. Those are some strong attacks.” Arturo mentioned.
“Lucario is such an awesome Pokémon!” Katie fawned.
“Zorua!” Trix yapped in agreement.
Alicia nodded as Anubis looked at her once again before he prepared to use another powerful Aura Sphere attack.
This time however, both Alicia and Lucario are starting to glow blue.
“Whoaaaa… this is new!” Rachel commented in shock.
“A-Are they bound?” Meadow nervously asked.
“You could say that.” Mrs. Kay smiled, marvelled by the scene.
Anubis growled as the Aura Sphere grew in size the more the duo glowed blue.
Brock and his Onix sweatdropped in response.
“Oh boy… this doesn’t look good…” Brock gulped, knowing that there was no way to dodge a move this big.
His Onix grumbled in agreement.
Anubis focused on his Aura Sphere before he launched the attack upon feeling his trainer’s bond.
“This battle will be over.” Arturo responded “There’s no way for Onix to win this battle.”
“No kidding! That Aura Sphere’s as big as a Gigantamax Pokémon!” Rachel claimed.
Mrs. Kay sweatdropped. “Eh, we don’t want to overreact.”
“Yeah, let’s keep it-” As Arturo wanted to finish his sentence, an explosion followed by an enormous cloud of dust blocking the view of the battlefield.
Everyone at the stand covered themselves, shielding their eyes. Katie shielded Trix and her own Pokémon as she braced herself against the wind and dust from the explosion.
Once the dust finally settled, Anubis was firmly back on the ground, standing and no worse for wear.
“Onix is unable to battle!” The referee announced. “The victory goes to Lucario and its trainer, Alicia Powell from the Coconut Academy!”
Alicia couldn't believe her eyes.
“We…won?” She stammered, blinking in between words before she remembered the gym battle was over.
“YEAH!! WOOOO!!!” Rachel screamed, jumping out of her seat, nearly startling her friends next to her. “Way to go, Ali! You and your Lucario totally rock!”
“Pun not intended.” Katie sweatdropped.
Anubis couldn’t believe it either. “Lucario?” He whispered before he realized his opponent was defeated and the battle was over and won.
“Lucario!” Happily and excitedly, he runs up into the arms of his trainer Alicia.
“You both did great, Aki and Anubis!” Alicia said, crying tears of joy as her two Pokémon hugged her for the first Gym Battle they won.
“Dewott! Dewott!” Aki yapped.
“Lucario!” Anubis agreed, hugging Alicia tighter but not too tight for her to lose consciousness.
Brock smiled, returning his fainted Onix back into his PokéBall before he walked up to Alicia and her team, still happily hugging each other before they noticed the Gym Leader standing in front of them holding two items in his hand.
One was the Gym Badge and the other a dark blue bracelet with an empty spot in the middle.
“You did absolutely amazing.” Brock congratulated. As proof of your achievement, I present to you the Boulder Badge and this.”
“T-T-Thanks” Alicia thanked him, accepting the Boulder Badge and placing it inside the special case to keep all her earned badges in. “But… what’s that?”
She was uncertain what the bracelet is for, why Brock was giving it to her nor how he even obtained it.
“Oh, that? That’s for your newly evolved Lucario.” Brock explained. “If you get a Megastone, Lucario can just place it inside that bracelet and you won’t lose it.”
“You mean… it can help Lucario Mega Evolve once Alicia obtains its Mega Stone?” Arturo inquired.
“That’s right but you need to undergo a special subject Mr. Smith teaches you.” Mrs. Kay informed the gang.
“That’s really amazing!” Katie gasped in excitement.
“Awesome!” Rachel cheered.
“Now that the Gym battle is over and done with…” Brock started. He suddenly leaps forward and takes both of Katie’s hands as he bent down onto one knee, getting all lovestuck. “Perhaps you would do me the honor to show you, your friends and teacher around my hometown?”
“Uhhhh….” Alicia responded, dumbfounded as the Gym Leader just tried to flirt with her best friend.
“Dewott?” Aki looked as confused as Alicia does.
“Lucario?” Anubis tilted his head.
And Trix just casually returned on top of his Trainer's shoulder, nuzzling her with his head.
Katie felt overwhelmed as the Pewter City Gym Leader was flirting with her of all people.
“You are truly a beauty beyond compare!” Brock fawned as his eyes turned into hearts. “You are like a princess from a faraway kingdom if you have hailed from the majestic Galar Region! It would be my honor if I may perhaps-”
Before Brock could speak even further, his Croagunk appeared out of nowhere and Poison Jabbed his Trainer in the side. Brock winced in pain as he was forced to release the shocked Katie’s hands and topple over.
“They do say…that… love hurts…!” Brock grimaced as he comically fell over, trembling from the aftershock of the Poison Jab.
“Oh my…” Meadow whimpered.
“Oh man.” Alicia sighed. Her Pokémon agreed in her response.
Croagunk croaks scoldingly while he starts to drag his trainer away by the leg while Brock weakly calls out to Katie, “C-call me…”
Alicia moved over to her teacher asking, “Umm, Mrs. Kay? Is this normal for a Gym Leader to act?”
Mrs. Kay thought about it for a moment before she shrugged.
“No. Although some Gym Leaders have his or her unique quirks and traits.” The teacher replied. “I’m sure you’re all aware of Whitney’s sensitivity back in Goldenrod City for instance.”
“Yeah, she literally cried in front of the Gym before we could even see Rachel’s first Gym battle.” Alicia responded.
Mrs. Kay nodded. “Also bare in mind, some Gym Leaders may not take their losses very well, such as Clair, the Dragon-Type Gym Leader from Blackthorn City, regardless of being the strongest Gym Leader in the Johto Region.”
“Let’s hope none of us will have to face her.” Arturo sighed.
“She would make even Thomas seem mature with his losses.” Rachel scoffed.
Alicia gulped, thinking about facing Gym Leaders specializing in Dragon-Type Pokémon. She was still nervous about the possibility of Raihan choosing her to challenge him during his interview back on the train to Violet City back in Johto.
“While Dragon-Types are crazy strong, they’re still weak against Ice and Fairy-Types. And they’re also ironically weak against their own type.” Katie pointed out gently as she tried to comfort her friend’s uneasiness.
“And as long as someone has these types in their team, they’re good to go against Dragon-Type Pokémon.” Arturo agreed.
Alicia nodded in agreement before she spotted her three Pokémon training with each other. “Hey guys, you can take a rest, we have to visit the Kalos Region next.”
“Perhaps we should rest up at the local Pokémon Center and go grab something to eat before we depart?” Katie suggested. “I think we could do with a nice lunch to celebrate your victory and Anubis evolving.”
“Sounds good!” Rachel piped up as her stomach started to growl. “I sure would like to devour a club sandwich whole.”
“Scorbunny!” Her Scorbunny agreed, rubbing his belly in hunger.
“You’re not alone with this statement, Rachel.” Alicia sighed as her stomach grumbled too.
“Lucario!” Anubis smiled.
“Well, how about we get going? All of you deserve it.” Mrs. Kay said. “Lunch is on me. My treat.”
“Mrs. Kay, you really don’t have-” Katie started to protest.
“Please. I insist.” Mrs. Kay insisted.
“Alright, let’s go!” Rachel responded.
The students follow their teacher out of the Gym as Brock (who had somehow made a miraculous recovery from Croagunk’s Poison Jab) was waving them off, wishing the remaining two students luck with their Gym Challenge in Kalos.
#########################################################
“And Duraldon is down!” Shouted the commentator with a Brooklyn-like accent as Raihan's signature Pokémon loses his Gigantamax form and shrinks down to his normal size.
“Now that was an extremely powerful G-Max Chi Strike from James Powell's Machamp!” A male commentator with a British or rather Galarian accent commented.
As the battle continues to broadcast the gang is sitting inside the waiting area of the local Pokémon Center.
Alicia holds a small club sandwich with eggs, bacon and salad.
Katie had a bacon and egg baguette with a side of lightly salted potato chips (or crisps as she refers them due to her Galarian roots) and a chocolate chip cookie for dessert. She also has a can of diet soda for her drink.
Meadow was content with a pasta salad and a slice of apple pie along with a can of cherry soda as her drink while Arturo was having an egg salad and a regular apple, a bottle of Fresh Water in hand.
Rachel, showing to be a big eater, was downing a foot long sub sandwich stuffed with meatballs, melted mozzarella and jalapeños. She had a side of salad, potato chips and a jam-filled donut. She takes a brief sip of her can of lemonade.
Mrs. Kay got herself a cucumber and mint cream cheese sandwich, a strawberry tart and a lemon iced tea.
All of their Pokémon were seated on the floor, eating some Pokémon food and berries.
“I kinda knew your dad would win.” Rachel said in between bites.
“I know that Raihan is strong, but we’re still talking about a former Elite Four member here.” Katie agreed before she took a sip of her soda.
“Well, he’s strong.” Alicia admitted before she finished her lunch. “But he prefers to be a father rather than going back to be an Elite Four member.”
“How come?” Arturo asked curiously.
Alicia sheepishly explained the reason why he decided to become a father rather than be a member of the Elite Four. “Also he said it's more stressful to get to the Indigo League by train.”
“Th-that makes sense…” Meadow commented.
“As much as I find it adventurous to take the train, I suppose it’s still not without its stressful side.” Katie agreed. “And being a family man, it’s rather sweet that he’s putting you, your brother and mother first.”
“He helps my mom and grandparents in our bakery and besides, he owns a training school for special types of Pokémon.” Alicia explained.
“That’s really amazing.” Katie commented.
“What sort of types?” Arturo inquired.
“Fighting, Ground, Water and Dragon-Type Pokémon.” Alicia counted. “Although Mr. Mustard and Mr. Peony helps him train other Pokémon Types too.”
“Mr. Mustard? As in Leon’s mentor from the Armor Isle?” Katie asked in surprise. “He was formerly a Gym Leader and even the previous Champion back before Dynamax was added into the League. He had been unbeatable for 18 years back in his youth. And if I’m not mistaken, Peony is not only Chairman Rose’s younger brother, but he is also a former Gym Leader who specializes in Steel-Type Pokémon.”
“Y-your dad r-really knows s-so many interesting p-people.” Meadow added in.
Alicia blushed a little bit. “Yeah, he knows most of the Champs and Elite Four members from various regions.”
Everyone returned their focus to the TV.
“And with the battle finally over we have our candidates for the finals!” The male commentator continued. “Although many would have loved to see the two finals in the Galar Region, due to a massive black out, it's going to be broadcasted in Shalour City in the Kalos Region.”
“In just one day folks!” The Galarian accent commentator mentioned.
“Another blackout?” Katie asked in dismay.
“Well, that’s rather a shame.” Mrs. Kay sighed after a sip of her iced tea. “But at least they’re going to continue the finals in the Kalos Region. Speaking of, I believe you and Meadow will be battling Viola and Korrina in that region.”
“Y-yes…” Meadow replied shyly.
“You're both nervous aren't you?” Alicia asked.
“To be honest, it is a bit overwhelming since Korrina is the third Gym Leader to battle for a Gym Badge in the Kalos Region and she’s the first one I have to battle in my first Gym Challenge.” Katie admitted.
“Pop…” Nalu spoke in sympathy.
Alicia and Anubis looked at each other, nodding in response before she spoke. “How about me and Anubis helping you train your Pokémon? Korrina uses a Lucario too, right?”
“Lucario!” Anubis agreed.
Kate smiled shakily. “That would mean a lot.”
“Lucario’s p-partly a Steel-Type, right?” Meadow asked. “So… Psychic-Type m-moves wouldn’t have much effect, would it?”
Alicia nodded. “ Yeah, he is but still Psychic moves should help.” She responded.
“Lucario.” Anubis nodded along.
“Well, since we'll be stopping by Santalune City Meadow’s Gym Challenge first, I suppose I could use some preparations.” Katie confirmed.
“Oh dear…” Meadow uttered nervously, realizing their first stop in Kalos will indeed be Santalune City, where Viola, the local Gym Leader will be waiting for her.
“Don't worry Meadow.” Rachel cheered her up. “We’ll help you.”
“With proper training and thinking of a good strategy will do wonders.” Arturo added in.
Alicia nodded in agreement. “We should get to the train station before we miss it.”
“Good idea.” Katie agreed. “Which teacher will be supervising us in Kalos?”
“Oh, it's Azur.” Mrs. Kay responded.
“Wait…” Rachel spat out her lemonade all over her Hawlucha. “You mean THE AZUR?! The movie star from Sinnoh?!”
“Hawlucha…” The Flying and Fighting Type groaned, looking over his dripping wet winged arms in disgusted dismay, soaked from head to toe in the sweet, lemony carbonated beverage.
“Sorry buddy.” Rachel sweatdropped.
“Yes, indeed. Although Ms. Azur had retired from her movie career since she had taken up work as the academy’s theater teacher.” Mrs. Kay explained while Rachel was cleaning Hawlucha off. “She also used to be a very well-known Pokémon Co-ordinator and had been a champion in the Grand Festival since she was 10. She will be teaching the students not only about acting, but also about Pokémon Contests and Showcases, aiding students to find their potential as Co-ordinators and Pokémon Performers.”
Meadow held Eevee, looking lost in her thoughts at the mention of Co-ordinators and Pokémon Contests.
“I'm not sure if being a Co-ordinator is a thing for me.” Alicia blushes.
“Well… I think being a Co-ordinator or a Performer would be fun, but it does seem to take a lot of work to perfect all those dance moves.” Katie admitted. “Still, the Ribbons and Princess Keys are so pretty.”
“It’s understandable.” Mrs. Kay nodded. “When starting out in your journeys, you all have a choice to decide what you all want to do in your career. Trainer, Co-ordinator, Performer or even a researcher, you will all have a special bond with your Pokémon as you all grow.”
###############################################################
After a satisfying lunch in the nearby Pokémon Center, the group arrived at the Pewter City Train station, just in time for their train leading to the Kalos Region to arrive.
“Platform 1 enters the Lumiose City Express.” The loudspeaker announced as a marvelous train had arrived.
“W-wow…!” Meadow whispered.
“That's a really amazing train!” Katie gasped in awe.
“And we have at least made it in time for its arrival.” Arturo spoke up, happy they weren’t running late to catch the next train for once.
“Gotta say that the people in Kalos like to travel in style.” Rachel commented. “Ms. Azur must have had a fancy childhood having been born in that region.”
“Well, Mrs. Kay said she mostly spent her childhood in Sinnoh but I heard Kalos has fancy cities like Lumiose City and its Prism Tower.” Alicia said as she and her Pokémon entered a cabin with six seats inside, a storage area above them.
“Lucario.” Anubis took the seat next to the slide door.
“Dewott!” Aki on the other end stared out of the window waving at Mrs. Kay and a lovestruck Brock as the train departed.
“Good luck, Meadow and Katie!” Mrs. Kay called. “I’m rooting for both of you, girls!”
“Katie, my darling! I’ll wait for your return to Kanto someday!” Brock fawned. “Parting is such sweet sorrow! But your absence will make my heart grow fonder!”
The Gym Leader then froze as he noticed Alakazam to the left of him, giving him a warning glare, eyes faintly glowing a faint bright blue of psychic energy. To the right of him, his Croagunk lifting his hand up, fingers glowing purple to prepare a Poison Jab at the ready.
“Gah! You guys got it all wrong!” Brock yelped frantically. “This is all just a big misunderstanding! It’s all just an innocent farewell!”
In the background, Mrs. Kay giggled awkwardly as she sweatdropped while Brock tried to reason with the scolding Pokémon.
The train started moving as the students waved their teacher, Mrs. Kay goodbye.
“I wonder what Kalos looks like.” Alicia imagined.
“I h-hope it’s as b-beautiful as they say it is.” Meadow said.
With the Badge in her hand and Pewter City becoming just a dot in the distance, the journey to the Kalos Region starts.
