Emma hadn’t meant to be so nosy, but her mom had been allocated the Tyler case and after she had been questioned by the police, a habit which was getting a bit too familiar for her to be comfortable with, she really wanted to see her mom. She had gone down to the morgue, seeing that her office was empty, headed into the lab- when she walked in, her mom wasn’t there but on the table, with a sheet covering the lower half was Tyler’s body and Emma froze, unable to move further. How many times had she walked in on her mom cutting into a cadaver. she barely blinked an eye but this time, it was different. It was someone she knew and she felt the air leave her body. It had been a shock to hear of his death, it was unexpected. It wasn’t as if she was best friends with him, towards the end he was Nina’s lapdog and Emma had no interest in being linked with him- but he was still that boy she had hung out with, laughed with, joked with, even drank with at times and now he was just a cold body on a slab.
“Oh God…” she said, voice cracking.
She stumbled out, feeling shaky and sick and managed to make her way out of the morgue and upstairs to the main police office. She pushed past someone, excusing herself for the hard shove and aimed for the exit, needing some air and to try and keep herself together. No, she wouldn’t cry. She had no right to cry. “I’m sorry, I just needed some air, okay? I didn’t mean to hit you-” she said, hearing someone follow her out.
Not even a week after her boyfriend’s brutal murder, Nina had been called in for questioning by the police as if she ever could have killed the man she loved. Although reluctant to ever admit it out loud, Nina did love Tyler, more than she ever thought possible. It was just her desire to keep all of her power for herself that kept her from fully committing to him. But when she found out what had happened, Nina panicked in a way that made it obvious how much she truly cared about him. If she didn’t, she wouldn’t have gotten into her car and driven straight to his place to make sure that it was true. That it wasn’t some cruel prank being played on her by Noah or Audrey. That he was really... gone. Forever.
Angrily walking through the police station, Nina’s frustration only grew when she felt someone bump right into her. “What the fu—” she began, cutting herself off when she saw who it was. Emma. Where the hell had this girl been hiding for so damn long? However, Emma didn’t bother stopping and Nina chose to follow her outside the station. “Were you here for questioning, too?” she asked, surprisingly more friendly than she’d ever been towards the other girl.

She watched him with adoration; the way he let this side of him out. In hindsight, she was proud of him. As she stood to the side in the room, her method of defense being the pocket knife she had received from her father, she watched as he stepped forward, messing with the girl’s mind. Nina deserved this. To have the shit scared out of her; to be chilled to the bone with fear to make up for the humiliation that she had been the cause of for so many years. Noah didn’t know the half of it; she refused to tell him about what had happened with Nina as she was growing up. She tried to keep the past in the past, but it was like suddenly it was all boiling up to the surface.
She stepped forward, watching as Noah continued. She saw the way her face contorted from cockiness to confusion, to anger. If things went awry they wouldn’t hear the end of this; Nina would continue to make their life hell. But that didn’t matter right then. What mattered was that Nina was finally getting what was coming to her. And it wasn’t like anyone would really believe her if she tried to tell her.
“We could always follow up your idea to gag her; I’m sure she’s into that sort of thing.” She commented, finally breaking her silence. “It’d be fun to try and guess what slur she was throwing at us this time.”
@theninapatterson
Honestly, Nina had to admit that she was a little bit impressed. Suddenly, Noah was displaying this dark side, one she didn’t know could exist under all of that nerd, and she felt as though she’d missed out on a prime opportunity to get him on his side. A man with computer knowledge and darkness within him was always useful to her; the only problem was, he wasn’t as easily manipulated as Tyler or Caleb. His goodness outweighed his rottenness.
“Who knew you had it in you to play the role of the evil villain?” Nina chimed, her voice velvety and smooth, as if trying her best to earn his trust. It was the first step in getting him to let her out of this chair; pretending she was on his side.
“And you,” Nina said, her head tilting towards Audrey as she spoke. “Don’t pretend your lesbo self wouldn’t enjoy the sight of me being gagged for another reason.” Of course, she was implying that Audrey had a big fat lesbian crush on her, which probably wasn’t true, but she’d never pass up an opportunity to throw that personality flaw in Audrey’s face.

NOEL: Yeah, Tyler was an alright guy and I'm sorry he's gone but you're gonna become the next target if you go round wanting to unmask him. It's dangerous.
NINA: I already /am/ the next target, I'm sure. This wouldn't change a thing.

NOEL: I heard about Tyler, that's rough. How are you holding up?
NINA: I want to know who this Ghostface asshole is.
investigation #7314
location: Sheriff’s station
PROFILE: Before we begin questioning, will you please state the following:
Name: Nina Patterson, don’t pretend you didn’t already have it written down.
Age: 17
Height: 5′8″
Weight: 123 lbs
Eye Color: Dark brown
Hair Color: Seriously? Like you can’t tell that it’s red.
MOTIVE: Now, let’s begin.
Did you know the victim? Better than anybody.
What was your relationship with the victim? He was my boyfriend, and if you could stop calling him “the victim” like he wasn’t a real person, I’d appreciate it.
How would you describe the victim? Misguided, overly trusting, caring. Protective. He would have done anything for me.
When was the last time you saw the victim prior to his death? You know what, I think you’re going to have to call my attorney if you want me to answer any more of these ridiculous questions.
Can you describe the victim’s behavior leading up to his death? His behavior? He was just as normal as any other kid in a town where a raving lunatic is roaming free butchering people up into little bits because you dumbasses can’t do your job properly.
ALIBI: Just a few more questions.
Where were you the night of the parade? Home.
Did you attend the party thrown on the beach that night? For, like, two minutes.
Did you notice anything suspicious? Yeah, I saw Noel Kahn two seconds away from date-raping poor Betty Cooper. Might wanna look into that one, jackwagons.
Who were you with? Me, myself, and I. In case you haven’t noticed, I run alone.
Can anyone confirm your alibi? My parents. Call them right now if you want. Tell them you hauled my hot ass in here for an illegal interrogation and see how quickly they’re suing you and this whole damn town. I have rights, you know!

Instead of his usual bike, Tyler was riding around his Porsche 918 Spyder, which was the same car he banged Brooke in and out of. The memory wasn’t for Nina, but for Brooke, whom he would see later tonight. That was the car he drove up onto the beach where Nina asked him to meet her. When he spotted her flow of red hair and pale skin, he climbed out of his car and checked the trunk to make sure his delivery was still breathing. “Nina!” Tyler called out; fixing his leather jacket as the wind blew dark, messy hair. When he reached her, he sucked roughly on his lip and eyed her in a way that was scarily seductive. “So the moron and the bitch really got married?” he should have thought of that one himself but he never would have considered it. He wasn’t the married type. But he knew Brooke would have married him if he asked. There wasn’t a thing she said no to that night. She could blame it on the alcohol but she was able to say no Carlos, why couldn’t she say no to him, too? It’s because she wanted it. She wanted him over Jake and she still does. He just had her trapped out of guilt and it was disgusting. “Tell me everything. And then I have a surprise for you in my car. You’re gonna love it.”
She heard him call out to her before she saw him, immediately spinning around and grinning at the sight of her ridiculously sexy boyfriend. That jacket? Totally drove her crazy, not that she’d let him know it. He didn’t need to know anything he could hold over her from then on. As they met up, Nina’s eyes glanced over him in a ravenous manner, flashes of their reunion in her bedroom appearing in her mind. The shower, the dresser, the bed, it was all coming back to her and she just wanted to get tonight over with as soon as possible she could have him again. Snapping out of it as Tyler asked her about Jake and Brooke, Nina rolled her eyes. She was still reeling knowing that Brooke could have been pregnant with Tyler’s baby, but she was keeping that fact from Tyler, who apparently was none-the-wiser to the whole situation. Honestly, Nina was afraid she’d lose him if he knew the truth and she wasn’t ready to give him up when she’d just gotten him back. “They’re delusional if they think it’s going to last. No marriage in this town ever does, least of all one in high school,” Nina stated, her words evincing pure distaste at the newfound marriage. “The ring looks fucking cheap, too. I bet you could have gotten something better.” Not that she wanted Tyler to go off and marry Brooke. “I didn’t get that much alone time with her before the wannabe firefighter broke down the door and came to her rescue. Just show me the surprise. And it better be good, baby.”
viraldoosh:
Despite having a couple of classmates come up to Jake asking where he’d been, he remained on edge. He didn’t like being away from Brooke and all he could think about was Tyler and Quinn. Tyler, because the last time Brooke disappeared Tyler took her. And, Quinn, because Jake promised him he wouldn’t let anything like that happen again. How would Quinn feel if he knew Jake brought his little girl back to Riverwood and left her alone? He’d be livid, he’d take back every nice thing he said about Jake in that letter to Brooke. “Where are you Brooke?” after a few minutes of standing around like a lost penguin, Jake heard his phone. Bzzz. The incoming text made his body run cold with fear and then hot with rage.
Text to Jake: Nina’s here. Pls help
He knew better than to leave Brooke alone. Without caring who saw, Jake pulled the curtain back and ran through the rooms as fast as his sporty legs could launch him. But, the main door was locked. “Yo! OPEN the door!” Jake gripped the handle with a jerking motion before slamming his shoulder against the solid oak.
The moment he heard Brooke crying from the inside of the room, he looked around for some kind of weapon that could help break down the barrier between him and the love of his life, who was clearly in distress. Breathing heavily and covered in a film of hot anxiety, Jake wrenched open a nearby closet and spotted an emergency fire kit. Dark-chestnut eyes zero in on the axe. He’d use it to chop the door down and then chop Nina’s head off, though it would only grow back. Slim, tan fingers wrap around the handle before he lifts it up over his shoulder and carries it back to the door with one final warning, “Yo, stand back!” the axe was heavy as Jake grunted, taking a swing down on the doorknob. The knob fell to the floor, spinning in circles by his feet from the sheer force of his swing. “Screw you, stupid lock!” with one final blow Jake busted the door open and dropped the axe.
As Brooke burst into a string of ‘shut up’s, Nina had only one reaction: laughter. Loud, high-pitched, villainous laughter—the type you only really hear in a classic Disney movie when the evil witch hatches her manipulative plan to ruin the Princess’s life. That was much the same scenario as what was happening here, between Nina and Brooke, only Nina didn’t plan on succumbing to the Princess by the end of their movie. Once tears began streaming down the other girl’s face, Nina knew she’d cracked her, like a soft egg in the palm of her hand. She had a few obvious weak spots, Jake and Quinn being the two major ones. They were always the smartest spot to strike when it came to breaking the girl in front of her.
With every word that left Brooke’s lips, every insistence that it was Tyler or Nina or both of them who were the problem (well, duh, Nina already knew that, but she didn’t particularly care. She took joy in it, anyway), Nina simply rolled her eyes, mocking Brooke with a hand gesture akin to a child mocking another.
It wasn’t until Brooke let it slip that she thought she was pregnant with Tyler’s baby that Nina ceased all mocking and took a giant leap towards Brooke so that she stood right in front of her, right in her face. “What did you just say?” Nina asked strongly, towering over her in a dominant manner. She could talk shit about her and Tyler as much as she wanted to. Nina didn’t give two craps what the girl thought, considering the only opinion she cared about was her own. But when it came to the fact that Brooke nearly gave birth to her boyfriend’s child, that was when she started to care. “What’d you do, stop taking your birth control so you could tie him down for good? You fucking who—” and just then, her voice was cut off by the sound of the door busting open, revealing none other than Jake Fitzgerald wielding a bright red axe.
With a roll of her eyes, Nina turned to look at him straight on, crossing one arm over the other. “Of course, here’s Prince Charming, coming to save the day. Pathetic,” Nina practically spit in the other girl’s face as she turned back to look at her with disgust. “This girl almost gave birth to your sworn enemy’s baby and you still went and wifed her up? Some balls you have,” she added on, slowly making her way towards Jake. The axe wasn’t scaring her at all. “Enjoy your miserable life together. I hope the trailer you two wind up living in has enough room for your five inbred children.” The words were spoken as she brushed past Jake, pushing him out of her way so she could exit the room, leaving them to their no-doubt Nicholas Sparks novel-esque reunion.

The hospital, he learned, was a horrible place to be. The food sucked, he couldn’t even go to the bathroom without having someone hovering right by the bathroom and above all else, he hadn’t been able to sleep. The only good thing about it was the pain meds they had given him. Turns out after being shoved into traffic, he ended up leaving with a broken arm, fractured rib and a concussion ( not to mention a completely shattered phone ). Really, he just wanted to leave. To go back to his temporary home, to sleep, and to get away from everything. He got half of that, at least.
He was let out a few days after the crash once his foster parents finally cared enough to come check him out. From there they didn’t seem to care where he went; instead of driving him somewhere they instead let him walk off the hospital grounds with only the money and painkillers in his pocket and the cast on his arm. As he began his slow, treacherous walk home he ended up passing right through town, shaking his head at the festivities. “You’d think that they’d stop doing these things..” He mumbled, mostly to himself but by the way a few people around him looked at him, he knew he was heard. “What? It’s like we’re asking to get stabbed.”
Nina had only come to the parade to torment Brooke and once she had finished with her plan, the girl was happy and ready to leave. However, today seemed to be a two-for-one special when she happened upon none other than Caleb Rivers looking incredibly lonely and incredibly pessimistic, as per usual. With a roll of her eyes, Nina glanced over at him. “It’s not like anyone would notice if you were the next to die,” she stated plainly. He didn’t exactly have many friends, anyway, and though they were never really friends, he was someone she used occasionally, right up until he turned her back on her. Because of that betrayal, she didn’t find the need to hold back her rude comments.
