Meredith had heard nothing but great reviews from friends who’d travelled for both business and pleasure. How patient and fluent the male teacher had been, apart from several comments from her female friends that had mention his physical beauty as an added beauty. A reminder of her recent divorce. The bare hand and foreign last name that she now used weren’t enough reminders of how she was now free to relearn this world on her own. A scary thought she had never anticipated or desired. Forty year old divorcee wasn’t supposed to be her title, and yet, she had done her best to ensure that her children and friends only saw glimpses of forced smiles and fake laughter. They couldn’t know how completely frightened she was. Her daughter spoke of Tinder before she carefully dropped the news that her father, Meredith’s ex-husband, had already found himself a date. With a little force, she had found out that the woman was ten years younger than her. An app to speak to people her daughter explained as the information filtered through one ear and out the other, and the more she thought of it, she believed that perhaps she was more eager to leave because she would escape all those who chose to dig the knife deeper with innocent remarks about how time wasn’t on her side.
Words cut through the blonde’s reverie all too sharply, forcing the woman to blink herself back to consciousness. “Excuse me?” she spoke softly, azure gaze meeting that of a younger male before her. “You must be Theodore?” she questioned, rising to her feet and extending her hand towards his. They had chosen to meet in a cafe, or she had, as she believed it could be a quiet and private atmosphere for them to speak. They’d discussed prices and the gist, but if she were to spend the time it would take to learn another language with this man, she only found it right to get to know him first. “I already ordered, but I would love to buy you a coffee or something to eat. What would you like?”
Boots on the ground; the saying now had a different meaning than it did to most. How long had he been rooted here, stuck in one place where he was forced to itch the mental fidgets and aches that had tickled his gray matter over the past few months? A part of him worried he would forever be stuck there, sinking into the quicksand of time that seemed to only swallow him by the ankles, refusing to allow him to budge.
Boots in the ground.
The chilled autumn air nipped at the tips of his ears, like little teeth leaving red imprints where the skin and flesh were thin, easier to break. Perhaps he should have known better; instances such as this had happened before when he was writing novels, and in this moment he knew not to worry himself into oblivion. He’d reach the top of another mountain--literal or metaphorical--shortly. That much he could reassure himself of.
Tugging the collar of the denim jacket about the nape of his neck, the mountaineer stopped before the glass window of the cafe he was set to meet a new client. Although he had never meet her before, he knew her within first sight.
He hung back for a brief moment, bright eyes noticing the manner in which the lighting of the cafe radiated off of her blonde hair. While she did not notice him nor look in his direction, he recognized the intensity of her stare, noting how it seemed to freeze time around all else. It had been quite some time since he had experienced such a jolting, muted instance as this, and with the brief spell broken, he regained the ability to move from his spot on the sidewalk.
A worn set of fingers gripped and opened the door, the bell sounding overhead as he entered the small establishment. He threw a warm smile to the woman behind the counter, and she returned the gesture. Over the months he had become well acquainted with the staff of various cafe’s staffs, although he had frequented this one far more often.
In a fluid motion, the man made his way to where the blonde from the window was sitting. He introduced himself as he sat down across from her, although she didn’t seem to notice at first, and a smiling sort of smirk cracked across his lips.
“The very one,” Theodore replied as he stood again, extending his hand to meet hers for a brief yet firm shake. At her offer, he felt the corners of his lips stretch a bit further, and he pressed a hand to his chest. “Oh no, that’s quite alright. Thank you, though.”

ooc;
Good evening, everyone. Unfortunately, I must say my farewell to Lanford. I spent over a year in this group and it was a wonderful time, but sadly I no longer have the proper time to commit to it. Between graduating university, looking for a job, and possibly moving across the country for graduate school, my free time is gradually becoming less and less. I wish everyone the best and I hope to return one day.
Until then, if you’re ever looking to write together, please feel free to message me on my rp/writing main, diezeitdreht.
Best, Spock
jude-nolan:
“Yeah, socks,” he nodded, though didn’t elaborate what part of the anatomy the sock had been for. “I’ll do that, for sure.” He pulled out his phone, handing it to the stranger, soon-to-be not a stranger. “Just put all your info in there and I’ll get back to you ASAP.”
He had always been a fan of homemade things, especially items that he used every day, coffee mugs and socks. He had yet to find other such creative people in town, although it appeared that that was about to change in this moment. Taking the man’s phone, he entered his name and number, handing it back to him with a smile once he had finished.
“Great. I look forward to it.” He extended his hand towards the other. “I hope to hear from you guys. Thanks again.”
itsandrew-lupa:
Andrew smiled and nodded. “Yeah, it’s a pretty good one. I love it there.” He said, thinking about his campus and the classes he’s taking. He had applied to quite a few schools, but St John’s allowed him to stay close to home while also pursuing the career he really wanted.
His brow furrowed when the older man laughed, seemingly out of nowhere. “Why’re you laughing?” He asked, curiously.
“Sorry,” he began, smiling as he shook his head. “Sorry, I was just... thinking about some of the stories my sister told me while she was at university.”
He paused, shrugging.
“I never to unviersity went so I guess I kinda lived through her experiences vicariously.”
ambercaldwell:
“Weird thing to have in a museum, isn’t it?” Amber mumbled to the person standing next to her. “I can’t even tell what it’s supposed to be.”
“Is it... a... medieval lawn mower?” He could feel a laugh at the back of his throat, even as his brows pushed together and he looked to the woman just a few feet away.
laurenbauer:
“Right, probably can count ourselves lucky on the no harm part, though.”
“I’d like to think so,” he answered, offering a slight smile as he found both feet now firmly on the ground.
laurenbauer:
“Hoo! Sorry.” She apologizes as she almost hits someone with her mindless habit. “I twirl things when I’m nervous or anxious or thinking and you know-pretty much every emotion but anger. So you’re safe.”
The mountaineer was caught off guard, stumbling back a few steps as he came but inches within meeting one of the twirling items. As he quickly regained his balance, the blonde forced a smile, nodding slowly as he processed her words.
“That’s alright. No harm, no, uh, no foul.”
alesebydesign:
“sorry?” alese imitated theodore’s expression. “did i stutter, mountain man?”
“No, I guess not,” he mused, feeling a smirk pull at his lips. After a short pause, he added, “Is there--? ... How are you?”
What a strange manner to begin this conversation, he thought to himself. It was his fault, after all, making it this awkward.
itsandrew-lupa:
“I’m studying Physical Therapy.” He replied to the man. “I’m in an entry level doctorate program at St. John’s University. It’s four years undergrad then three years grad.” He said, explaining his program a bit. “What did your sister study?”
“St. John’s University?” he echoed, smiling at the name. “That’s a good school, isn’t it?”
He, himself, had never been to university, but he had always wondered if he should start looking into it. A laugh broke from his lips at the thought. No, he was alright without a degree. He was happy, he made decent money, what more could he ask for?
jude-nolan:
“Sure. Lots of families, people wanting to do crafty things, DIY things. Lots of Haverford people who don’t do the whole shopping spree thing, but I see them at those market stalls all the time. I think with the right promo it could totally take off,” he nodded. “I will, for sure. She’s a comedy writer but she makes stuff with her hands. Made me a sock for Christmas, it was pretty neat.”
“Socks?” Theodore repeated, brows raised in mild disbelief. He couldn’t remember the last time he heard of someone doing that. Well, in the United States, that is. After a brief moment of thought, he offered a smile, nodding. “That’s amazing. And, well, that’d be great. Thank you. Any help and support would be greatly appreciated.”

sarah-bluth:
The bar sounded obnoxiously loud to her. Maybe it was really that loud, or maybe it was just her drunken state. Well, drunk may have been an understatement at this point. She has been drinking for three hours. The situation was a little bit pathetic. Twenty-something woman was drinking by herself and trying to ignore her shit instead of facing it. God, could she be more cliche? A deep sigh escaped her lips before she stood up. She needed to get some fresh air.
Her world spun a bit as she stepped outside. The blonde was trying her best to standing still – after all she didn’t want to embarrass herself in front of everybody. Lanford people could be as judgmental as Charleston ones apparently. She thought about calling Jacob. She wanted to hear his voice but what was the point? What was she going to say to him? He really didn’t need to hear about her last audition. Her life was a mess, it’s always been but lately it has gotten worse and Sarah didn’t want him to know that. After all he’s one of the few people who actually believed in her, he’s always thought she was destined to great things and she didn’t ruin the Sarah image in Jacob’s head. So, she skipped his name and scrolled down. Jude? Nah. He was probably with Victoria and they already had enough of her bullshit. She wasn’t going to call them either. As she scrolled down the names, Sarah pressed her lips together and sighed. It hit her. She was all alone in Lanford. In Charleston, at least she had friends, she had people to call and talk whenever she wanted to. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case anymore. She kept scrolling down, hoping she’d find someone to bother. Her blurry vision fell to another name. Theo. Oh he’s nice, he’d put up with my drunk ass. Without a second thought, her thumb pressed the dial button and she brought the phone to her ear, waiting for the call to connect.
“Pick up, pick up, pick up.” Sarah bit her lips nervously. And he didn’t pick up. Instead the call went to voice mail. The red head cleared her throat before started speaking, “Heeeeeeeeeeyy, sorry to bother you. — - I have been doing few shots,” she paused, chuckling at her own lie, “Well more than few actually, think ten or twelve.” She added with a laugh. “As you can tell from my voice, I am a little bit drunk and I probably don’t even make any sense. Hah who knows? I, I just wanted to talk but I guess you are sleeping.” Chuckling nervously, Sarah shook her head at her own ridiculousness. “Anyways ignore me. Good night.” She hung up the phone and put it into her back pocket.

The phone rang and rang and rang and... rang. It wasn’t until the fourth or fifth ring that the sleeping man realized what was taking place, especially since the noise has woken Roosevelt, who currently crawled over Theodore in an attempt to investigate the vibrating device. Brow furrowed, the man rolled over, hand floundering across the side table’s surface before finally clutching the cell phone, although it had just stopped ringing a second or so before. Blurry eyed and still drenched in a partial dream, the man drew the bright screen towards his face, squinting as he read the notifications on the screen:
Voicemail [ 2:10 AM ] Sarah Bluth
Missed Call [ 2:07 AM ] Sarah Bluth
What was she doing, calling at this hour?
His initial thought was that she was in trouble, and while he didn’t want to jump to conclusions, the man couldn’t help but feel his blood pump a little quicker as he unlocked the phone and played her voicemail. To his relief, she was just drunk. Well, being intoxicated wasn’t exactly a good thing either, but he decided it was better than having her possibly be in any sort of immediate danger. Closing the voicemail screen, he pulled up a fresh text message:
To: Sarah Bluth [ 2:13 AM ] Are you okay?
His eyes strained against the light, but clicked send and rested the device on his chest, already feeling a wave of sleep begin to crawl over him once more.
jude-nolan:
“Yeah. Thanks. I’m interested, definitely,” Jude said with a nod. It didn’t sound like it was quite up his alley or area of expertise, but he couldn’t afford to be picky at this point. “I actually, uh, know someone else who’s interested too, if you’re looking for more people. She’s artsy and has a good eye.” He thought about the concept he suggested now, visualizing it in his head. “A pottery studio in Lanford. I could see that getting popoular. For sure.”
“You do?” The notion of someone else being open to the business was a prospect he couldn’t pass up. A strain of interest overtook his face, and with a simple nod, the blonde found himself all too intrigued. “That would be great. Feel free to share the idea with them. And, well, hopefully Lanford wants one. I guess we’ll have to find out.”
savmo:
“Oh.” She said, keeping her eyes peeled on the road. “What kind of dog did you say he was?” Savannah kept looking, seeing something out of the corner of her eye, causing her to pick up the pace, ever so slightly. “Maybe.” She said quietly as she held a finger out, “something like that?” She said, pointing to what could have been a dog.
“He’s a mutt. Just kind of a scraggly looking guy with grayish-brown fur,” the man answered, providing a shrug as it to serve as some sort of punctuation to the end of the description. “He’s also wearing a black collar, if that helps.”
As he finished speaking, however, she pointed in one direction, which drew his attention. With a sudden sort of blink, the man found himself grinning, and with a furious sort of nod, he said, “Yes, just like that.”
Hearing its name called, Roosevelt raised his head and began to trot back to his owner as if nothing had gone awry.
